    How I got my job as… The founder of this uber-cool streetwear label

    This week, Emirates Man speaks with Shubham Gupta, the founder of Bonkers Corner, an uber-cool streetwear label based in India, which is expanding its portfolio into Dubai.
    Welcome to the Emirates Man weekly series ‘How I got my job as…’ where we speak to incredible entrepreneurs, and businessmen both based in the UAE and globally to find out about their career paths that led them to where they are now; what their daily routines look like; the advice they’d give to those starting out; and the hurdles they’ve had to overcome.
    Known for being an uber-cool label that the younger crowd loves, Shubham Gupta, speaks to us how he built his fashion label and its journey to the UAE’s fashionscape.

    With industry experience in the fashion world from working with his father in his white-label clothing business and understanding manufacturing to supply chain basics, Gupta’s Bonkers Corner checks all the boxes for what it means for a brand to be fashionably relevant while remaining strong in its back-end processes.
    So, to delve into his journey in this industry, Emirates Man spoke to him to see how it all began.
    What was your favourite subject at school?
    Maths has always been my favourite subject because it taught me how to think logically and approach problems systematically. I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of finding solutions, and that analytical mindset has been invaluable in business – whether it’s making data-driven decisions, optimising processes, or solving unexpected challenges.
    What was your first job?
    My first job was helping my father in his white-label clothing business. It gave me hands-on experience in the apparel world early on. From understanding manufacturing to supply chain basics. That foundation was invaluable when I started Bonkers Corner later.
    What brought you to Dubai?
    Dubai is a vibrant crossroads of cultures and commerce. It’s a place where trends from around the world converge, and the fashion scene is incredibly dynamic. For a brand like Bonkers Corner that thrives on youth culture and streetwear, Dubai felt like the perfect gateway to a global audience.

    What inspired you to enter the fashion space and launch Bonkers Corner?
    I saw a gap in the market for streetwear that was both expressive and affordable – something authentic, but also accessible. My background in the whole white-labeling and D2C made me confident we could build a brand that wasn’t just about clothes, but about community, creativity, and culture. That vision became Bonkers Corner.
    Talk us through the concept?
    Bonkers Corner is all about unapologetic self-expression and quality products at an affordable rate. We design bold, oversized, and comfortable streetwear that encourages people to be themselves without compromise. It’s where fashion meets lifestyle — with an inclusive, gender-neutral vibe that reflects today’s youth.
    What are the key elements of your role?
    As founder, I’m involved in everything, from brand strategy and product development to tech infrastructure and licensing. My job is to keep the brand authentic and innovative while ensuring our operations and marketing align with our vision.
    Talk us through your daily routine.
    My day usually starts early, and I strive to begin with positive thoughts. I first proceed with a review of sales and inventory data, followed by team catch-ups on marketing, product design, and tech projects. I also set aside time for creative brainstorming and meetings. The day is a mix of strategic thinking and hands-on problem solving.

    What advice do you have for anyone looking to follow the same footsteps?
    Be patient but persistent. Build your foundation and deeply understand your product, your customer, and your market inside out. Also, embrace feedback and failure as essential parts of the journey. Most importantly, stay authentic to your vision and don’t chase trends blindly.
    Tell us more about Bonkers Corner and its pieces?
    Our pieces reflect the street culture ethos, oversized fits, bold graphics, and quality materials that feel as good as they look. Each collection tells a story and is designed to empower the wearer to express themselves freely. We focus on inclusivity, with gender-neutral options that break traditional fashion norms.
    What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
    Discipline beats motivation.” That’s the best piece of advice I’ve ever received. It taught me that consistency and commitment matter more than fleeting bursts of inspiration. This mindset has helped me stay focused through challenges, stick to my goals, and build Bonkers Corner with a long-term vision rather than chasing quick wins.
    And what is the worst?
    The worst advice I ever received was to “just follow what’s trending.” While trends can offer short-term wins, blindly chasing them can dilute your brand’s identity. In fashion and in business. I’ve learned it’s more important to build a distinct voice and stay true to it. Trends should inspire, not dictate
    What’s the biggest challenge you have had to overcome?
    Scaling Bonkers Corner without losing its authenticity has been the biggest challenge. As we grew, there was constant pressure to compromise on quality or design to meet demand quickly. Balancing speed with creativity, and expansion with staying true to our roots, has taken conscious effort, strong systems, and a committed team.
    What’s the future of the brand?
    The future of Bonkers Corner is about becoming a global voice for streetwear that’s inclusive, bold, and accessible. We’re looking at expanding into more international markets, exploring collaborations with artists and creators, and pushing the boundaries of sustainable streetwear.     13 Next-Gen Biohacks Every Wellness Girl Should Know

    From red light facials to AI-powered wearables whispering your next best move, the biohacking boom is having a very feminine glow-up. Once the domain of Silicon Valley tech bros, today’s wellness upgrades are more holistic, body-aware, and designed to work with your hormones, brain and gut – not against them. We rounded up the smartest, science-backed next-gen biohacks women are loving right now – plus what the experts really think. Spoiler: not all of them are as woo as they sound.

    1. Sleep Hacking 

    Forget hustle culture. People are prioritising deep, high-quality sleep with blackout curtains, magnesium, mouth taping, weighted blankets, and wearables that help optimise circadian rhythms. Because: Poor sleep is linked to nearly every chronic disease. Sleep depth – not just quantity – matters most. Here’s what sleepmaxxers and hackers are (not) sleeping on: 

    Regular sleep schedules 

    Good for babies, good for you, too. Science has long said that going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends, regulates your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. Plus, oversleeping (like, getting extra zzs on a Sunday morning) could disrupt your body clock. 

    Set the scene 

    Sleepmaxxers love blackout curtains to make sure that street lights, passing cars or early sunrise don’t affect sleep. That also means using gentle, calming night lights before bed, and making the room as cool and quiet as possible. 

    Bedtime routines 

    Some bedtime routines start as early as lunchtime, like limiting caffeine or alcohol so they don’t disrupt sleep. Other practices include getting regular exercise, being outside to regulate the natural sleep-wake cycle and avoiding heavy meals before bed. 

    Supplements 

    Taking sleep-inducing natural supps are how some sleep hackers enhance their sleep. These include ashwagandha, melatonin, magnesium and CBD.  

    Sleep tracking 

    Devices that track heart rate, breathing and movement are used to detect things like sleep disorders, or alert to the influence of alcohol, caffeine or other things on sleep duration and quality. 

    2. Red & Near‑Infrared Light Therapy

    Those glowing red panels on wellness influencers’ walls? They’re not just aesthetic. Near-infrared light (NIR) is being used to stimulate mitochondria, help skin glow, and support recovery. According to science, pure red light at a wavelength of 670nm can upregulate mitochondrial production of ATP, the main energy currency of the cell. In doing so, it can stimulate cellular function, leading to better healing and recovery. Red/NIR light devices (e.g. LED panels, masks, wands) are loved for smoothing wrinkles, calming inflammation, improving skin tone, and aiding mild pain. Users report better skin texture over months of routine use.

    3. Cold‑Water Immersion (Cold Plunges)

    Die-hard cold plungers cite many benefits of the frigid dip: boosted mood, alertness, circulation, and metabolic burning. It’s also pretty accessible: without an Atlantic nearby, you could go for a cold shower or bath. Science gives it a bronze medal. One review cited a 29% reduction in sickness absence among regular users and improved sleep and quality of life. Others support benefits in reducing inflammation, activating brown adipose tissue, and enhancing energy expenditure. But warning: there is a risk of cold-shock, apid blood pressure rise, hypothermia, and danger for cardiac individuals if done unsafely. 

    4. Blue-Light Morning Exposure & Night Blocking

    Biohackers expose themselves to bright blue-spectrum light at dawn to reset their circadian rhythm, then wear blue-blocking glasses after sunset. This improves alertness and sleep timing. Solid literature confirms that timed light exposure shifts melatonin and cortisol rhythms, enhancing sleep quality and mood regulation in both clinical and healthy groups. 

    5. Grounding / Earthing 

    Advocates walk barefoot or use grounding mats to connect with Earth’s electrical charge, which they say reduces stress and inflammation. To get max benefits, proponents recommend making direct contact with the earth’s surface (no socks or shoes). Early small-scale studies suggest lowered cortisol and improved circulation. However, larger studies are needed to reveal long-term effects. Having said that, nothing feels better than scrunching your toes in the sand or padding around a dewy lawn in the morning. 

    6. Hormetic Stress Stacking

    Put simply, people pair practices – like beginning workouts fasted and ending in a cold plunge – to amplify resilience, metabolic flexibility, and mitochondrial strength. In short, hormetic stress is the kind that’s mild, controlled and beneficial. It’s thought that by layering stressors, resilience is built. While the concept of hormesis is well-known among researchers, formal studies about stacking are needed. Two examples of hormesis: 

    Rigid intermittent fasting + metabolic tracking

    Combining the benefits of fasting with close monitoring to optimise the benefits of fasting. Tools like Lumen or CGMs (continuous glucose monitors) let you see how your body responds to fasting, so you can time meals smarter, not harder. 

    Cold + heat exposure 

    Alternating between cold plunges and saunas can stimulate different hormetic pathways. And, cycling through cold and warm can improve circulation. 

    7. Sex Hacking

    Some biohackers monitor sexual activity with heart rate variability, or HRV (a measure of the variation in time between heartbeats) and sleep trackers or explore techniques like Karezza and pelvic-floor training to improve vascular health and mood. And, sexual health metrics (vascular, hormonal, emotional) are recognised markers of overall wellness. While controlled trials on sex-tracking devices are sparse, clinical psychology affirms that improved sexual well-being correlates with better emotional and cardiovascular health. 

    8. Precision Genomics: DNA‑based Optimisation

    People use genetic tests – from skin and hair health to athletic performance and telomere length – to tailor supplements, workouts, and skincare backed by clinics specialising in biohacking. Forget generic diet advice – people are now sending off stool and saliva samples to get deeply personal nutrition plans. Companies use your gut bacteria and genes to tailor food, supplements and even coffee choices. 

    9. Nanotechnology‑powered Longevity

    Tech on a nano level deals with things that are one to one hundred nanometers, all with different physical properties. But they’re also capable of doing the same thing as materials much bigger than them. In healthcare, the next-gen biohacks incorporate nano-delivery (e.g., mitochondria-targeted antioxidants, NAD boosters) for precise cellular rejuvenation. Translation: teeny-tiny supps are being used to manipulate cells in the body or sense what’s happening inside the body.

    According to a paper about nanotech and longevity in International Journal of Applied Engineering and Management Letters (IJAEML), “nanotechnology is on the verge of solving many long-time waiting problems related to human prosperity… Patients may drink medicine containing nanorobots programmed to kill and reconstruct the molecular structure of cancer cells and viruses. It is also predicted that nanorobots could slow or even reverse the aging process, and life expectancy of human beings could increase significantly.” Right now, some skincare and beauty products are aiming to improve the delivery system with the tiny powerhouses.   

    10. Microbiome Modulation

    From custom probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics to at-home microbiome kits, individuals are actively shaping gut flora to influence immunity, mood, and metabolic health. Subscribers use stool‑based personalised pre/probiotic plans to tune gut flora for immunity, mood and weight. Reports say people feel less bloated, have more energy and a better mood within weeks. Meta‑analyses confirm strong links between gut diversity and metabolic health/mood, and microbiome interventions show measurable shifts. 

    11. Peptide Therapies

    Biohackers are turning to injectable or oral peptides (tiny protein fragments like BPC 157) for faster healing, better sleep, and even wrinkle reduction. Think of them as “body whisperers”, telling your cells what to do. Studies show promising anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects, metabolic benefits; however, dosage, sourcing, and long‑term safety remain under-researched – experts strongly recommend medical supervision. 

    12. Virtual Reality & Earables for Mental Training

    Beyond step counting, new wearables and earables (like the Oura Ring or Muse headband) use real-time biometrics (HRV, sleep, oxygen, stress) to advise your behaviour. They’re like a tiny coach on your finger (or in your ear). According to a paper in JAMA, continuous feedback loops can improve behaviour change better than delayed advice. So far, VR tools help with mindful relaxation and exposure therapy, while ear­ables (smart earbuds) monitor physiological markers and deliver real-time stress or concentration cues. 

    13. Integrated Mind‑Body Practices

    Traditional practices like yoga, Qigong, and Tai Chi are being optimised with modern tracking, embedding HRV sensors and breath analytics to quantify ancient practices. People combine yoga, Tai Chi, or breathwork with HRV sensors and tracking to quantify ancient wellness practices. They enjoy real‑time feedback on autonomic balance and stress recovery. Extensive clinical research supports mind–body training for improving HRV, reducing cortisol, and supporting mental health; combining with personal tracking strengthens engagement and measurable outcomes.     SIRO’s in-house nutritionist shares how to stay fit this summer

    SIRO One Za’abeel’s in-house nutritionist, Heeral Shivnani, shares her top tips for gut health prep for summer travel.
    Talk us through your background.
    I am a clinical dietitian specialising in gut health and hormonal imbalances, helping clients uncover the root causes of symptoms like bloating, irregular bowel syndrome (IBS), irregular menstrual cycles, and stubborn weight gain. With a science-backed yet holistic approach, I blend functional nutrition with lifestyle strategies to restore balance, improve digestion, and support long-term wellness. My practice focuses on empowering individuals to understand their bodies better and make sustainable changes that truly transform how they feel day-to-day.
    What are some of the tips to keep your gut health during summer, especially when travelling?
    Summer travel often means changes in routine, diet, and hydration – each of which can impact your gut. To support digestive health on the go, stay hydrated, especially in hotter climates, as water helps keep digestion smooth and prevents constipation. Place emphasis on room temperature and warm beverages, such as herbal teas. Eat fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, kanji, sourdough bread, or pickled vegetables whenever possible – they naturally replenish beneficial bacteria. Pack a travel-friendly probiotic, especially if you’re exploring new cuisines or regions where food hygiene might vary, and you may or may not have access to the above. Maintain regular mealtimes to avoid overeating at night and disrupting your gut’s circadian rhythm. Choose fibre-rich snacks like roasted chickpeas, or trail mixes with roasted seeds and dried fruit such as figs, raisins and dates to keep your microbiome fed while in transit. You’ve mentioned the benefits of intermittent fasting.
    How does this practice support gut health?
    Intermittent fasting can give the digestive system a much-needed break, supporting gut health in several ways. During the fasting window, a process called the migrating motor complex (MMC) becomes active – it acts like a housekeeping wave, clearing out leftover food particles and bacteria, which helps reduce bloating and supports a balanced gut microbiome. For women, it’s especially important to fast in a gentle and sustainable way. Extended fasts can disrupt hormones and increase stress in some individuals. Most women benefit from a fasting window of 12 to 14 hours, rather than longer durations. For example, finishing dinner by 7:30 PM and having breakfast around 8:00 AM the next day gives the gut time to rest and reset without over stressing the system. When practiced mindfully, intermittent fasting can reduce gut inflammation, support metabolic health, and improve the efficiency of digestion – all while aligning with the body’s natural circadian rhythm.

    How do mental and emotional health intersect with physical wellness, especially during the summer months when routines may change?
    Our gut and brain are in constant conversation via the gut-brain axis. When summer disrupts your usual structure – whether due to travel, social events, or sleep shifts – emotions like anxiety or overstimulation can manifest physically as bloating, altered bowel habits, or cravings. Prioritising mindfulness, getting sunlight in the morning, journaling, or even just grounding barefoot in nature can help re-center your nervous system and support overall wellness from the inside out. During summer, what dietary adjustments do you recommend to optimise energy levels and support a healthy physique? Focus on light, hydrating, and seasonal foods. So, start your day with warm water and a pinch of natural mineral-rich salt (like pink Himalayan or sea salt) for improved cellular hydration. Add cooling herbs and spices to meals or as a tea – a delightful blend is fennel, coriander, cumin and dried rose petals. Choose water-rich vegetables (cucumber, zucchini, lettuce) and fruit (watermelon, berries, papaya) to reduce internal heat. Prioritise protein and healthy fats at each meal to sustain energy without blood sugar dips. Avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol, which can dehydrate and burden the gut-liver axis. Focus on fresh coconut water, flavoured sparkling water or kombucha as alternative beverages.
    You’ve shared your personal health challenges and triumphs. How did addressing gut health specifically contribute to your overall wellness transformation?
    Healing my gut was like lifting a veil – suddenly,I had more energy, mental clarity, and emotional stability. I struggled with fatigue, skin flare-ups, and digestive discomfort for years, which I once thought were unrelated. But once I focused on restoring microbial diversity, reducing inflammatory foods, and nourishingmyself with Ayurvedic principles, my entire system recalibrated, and I was able to do so much more. It wasn’t just about digestion – it was about reclaiming vitality and peace from within.
    What final piece of advice would you offer to those looking to embrace a healthier lifestyle while enjoying the pleasures of life?
    Health shouldn’t feel like punishment – it should feel like support. Instead of restriction, think of addition: add movement, colour, laughter, herbs, rituals, and rest. And when you indulge – do it mindfully and joyfully. The body is resilient and wise; when you listen to its signals, you can live well and live fully.

    With the plethora of probiotic options available, how can one select the right supplement to support gut health, and what role do they play in digestion and immunity?
    Not all probiotics are created equal. Look for a multi-strain formula with clinically studied strains like Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG or Bifidobacterium longum. The strain should match your need – some help with bloating and constipation, others with immunity or mood. Make sure the label specifies CFU (colony-forming units) at the time of expiry, not just at manufacture, so you’re getting what you paid for. Third-party certifications: Look for seals like NSF, USP, or GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices). These indicate the product has been tested independently for quality, purity, and accuracy of labelling. Supplements are not regulated like medications, so third-party verification is essential to avoid ineffective or contaminated products. Probiotics support digestion by aiding nutrient absorption and keeping pathogenic bacteria in check. They also modulate immune responses and help maintain the gut barrier – your body’s frontline defense system.
    What is your non-negotiable when it comes to your self-care routine?
    Morning stillness. Whether it’s breath work, sipping my herbal tea in silence, or stepping outside barefoot, it grounds me before the world gets loud. That pocket of intentional calm gives my body a sense of safety, which I believe is the ultimate foundation for wellness. Moreover, making time to eat a balanced breakfast can be a key part of the safety mindset. A pot of oats or yoghurt doesn’t quite cut it for me personally, and we all know that enjoying a proper spread is a luxury. Hence, I’d rather wake up early to enjoy a slow breakfast at home than a rushed one at my desk.

    RAK Hospitality Holding and DRYP Studio team up for the UAE’s first outdoor hot fitness experience, returning to Jebel Jais on August 23 and 24. We spoke to Alison Grinnell, CEO of RAK Hospitality Holding; and Jessica Casalengo, Managing Director of DRYP, to find out more.

    What inspired you to launch PEAK HEAT?
    We wanted to completely reframe how people experience summer in the UAE. Instead of retreating indoors, we saw an opportunity to embrace the elements and turn the heat into a catalyst for wellbeing. PEAK HEAT was born from that idea. It is a bold, immersive experience that combines movement, altitude and nature at the highest point in the UAE, Jebel Jais. It is more than just a workout. It is about creating space for connection, resilience and self-discovery in an environment that feels both powerful and grounding. Not only is Ras Al Khaimah the nature emirate, but it is where opportunity thrives and an extraordinary powerhouse of innovation and resilience.
    What makes this different from a typical hot yoga or fitness class?
    Traditional hot yoga or heat-based workouts rely on controlled indoor studio environments. At PEAK HEAT, nature is the studio. We are 1,934 metres above sea level on Jebel Jais with no air conditioning, no mirrors and no artificial lighting. Just mountain air, golden hour sunsets and a panoramic horizon. The heat is not manufactured. It is real, raw and part of the challenge. That connection to the natural world makes the experience feel incredibly grounding and visceral. It is hot fitness, elevated.
    Why was Jebel Jais chosen as the location, and how do the natural elements play into the experience?
    Jebel Jais is the UAE’s highest peak, and it brings a unique sense of scale, stillness and cinema that you simply cannot recreate in a studio. The mountain becomes an active part of the experience. Its altitude, the cooler air, the sunset light and the vastness of the panoramic view all contribute to the impact. These elements transform the workout into something deeper and more connected. We wanted to use the natural landscape not just as a backdrop but as an active force in the journey, and Jebel Jais was the perfect setting for that.

    How has the UAE’s fitness and wellness culture evolved, and where does PEAK HEAT fit into that narrative?
    The UAE’s wellness culture has matured enormously in recent years. There has been a shift from surface-level trends to experiences that offer real mental, emotional and physical impact. People are looking for something more meaningful. Something that challenges them and creates a sense of transformation both personally and collectively. PEAK HEAT fits into this evolution as a new kind of wellness experience. It speaks to the adventurous, conscious consumer who wants to step outside their routine and reconnect with nature, with movement and with themselves.
    This is The High Summer Issue – where’s your favourite place to escape the heat?
    Ironically, I do not believe we always need to escape it. That is what PEAK HEA is all about. Embracing the season and finding strength through it. But if I had to choose a favourite escape, it would be somewhere in nature that offers contrast and clarity. Whether it is the crisp mountain air of Jebel Jais at dawn or the serenity of Ras Al Khaimah’s stunning coastal spots, I always find calm in places where the elements take centre stage.

    What led to the collaboration with DRYP?
    PEAK HEAT grew from Visit Jebel Jais’ interest in DRYP and the mutual connections between the two teams. DRYP’s hot classes and vibrant community are now well established, and it felt like the perfect moment to bring the Sweat Hub outdoors to the tallest mountain in the UAE. The idea was to take everything people love about DRYP and elevate it, quite literally, in a setting that’s raw, powerful, and completely different from anything else out there. Together with Visit Jebel Jais, we wanted to create something immersive that celebrates movement, resilience and nature.
    What are the physical and mental benefits of training in such raw conditions?
    Not only does training in the heat challenge your muscular, pulmonary and cardiovascular endurance levels, but it also challenges the mind, pushing you for clearer focus. Detoxing with a deeper sweat, you can also expect glowing skin from continued regular hot classes and a cleaner liver from the constant natural release of toxins. The clean mountain air and high altitude enhance the experience further, giving your body and mind a full reset. It’s a completely different feeling from training indoors. It’s grounding, energising, and incredibly rewarding.
    How does PEAK HEAT harness the power of altitude, movement and heat for a fitness experience.

    Can you walk us through the PEAK HEAT journey – from the first breath on the mountain to the last bite of dinner?
    Clients arrive at Peak Heat together with their DRYP instructor to find a serene location to practice just as golden hour is approaching. Your instructor will guide you through a powerful, sweaty hybrid class that blends fitness, yoga, power and positivity. Just as the sun begins to dip, there’s a shift. The session winds down andyou’re led to 1484 by Puro for a sunset dinner. It’s refreshing, restorative, and feels like a reward after the climb. From there, you can retreat to your hotel room at the newly launched Rove Al Marjan for a restful night, completely reset and reconnected.

    My favourite place to escape the Dubai heatis to get away to another emirate for a staycation. My husbandand I have been retreating to Fujairah for years but this summer we’re considering a staycation in Ras Al Khaimah or Abu Dhabi instead. The UAE is full of hidden gems and each emirate truly has something special to offer.
