    Sheikha Shamma makes history becoming first GCC woman to hold this position

    As the young royals of the region continue to pave the way for a promising future, one Abu Dhabi sheikha has just made history.
    Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan has become the first GCC woman to be appointed into a global and prestigious position.
    Per the Abu Dhabi Media Office, Her Highness has been appointed as one of the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center women leaders in the Energy and Climate Fellowship Program.
    The group will be invited as core participants to the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Forum in January 2023 held in Abu Dhabi.
    “The selection of Her Highness Sheikha Shamma Al Nahyan as one of the women leaders in the Energy and Climate Fellowship Program, and her hosting of the Atlantic Council Global Forum, reflect Abu Dhabi’s commitment to achieving its 2030 environmental vision,” the Abu Dhabi Media Office stated.

    Sheikha Shamma herself also shared her pride in being appointed to the prestigious position.
    “I’m delighted to be a 2022 Fellow on the Atlantic Council’s Women Leaders in Energy and Climate Programme,” she said, “I look forward to sharing perspectives from a region that is heavily investing in tackling climate change and is soon going to be hosting #COP28.
    “Women’s voices are imperative in all spaces, but especially in the context of the climate crisis, and I’m confident this initiative will continue to create great impact.”
    Having had a keen focus on the environment and sustainability for many years, Sheikha Shamma is the founder and CEO of the Alliances for Global Sustainability.
    Her mission is to empower women and the youth and to focus on sustainable initiatives that create change. In November 2021, Sheikha Shamma also signed five sustainability agreements at the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow.

    In pics: Sheikha Mahra Al Maktoum visits Museum of the Future for the first time

    Her Highness Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has made a visit to the Museum of the Future (MOTF) for the very first time.
    The daughter of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, shared a series of photos on Instagram of her official visit to the iconic building which opened four months ago.
    Her Highness took a tour around different parts of the museum, including its outside observation deck.

    For the public outing, Sheikha Mahra wore a stunning light pink abaya with her long hair curled, also featuring a braid.
    MOTF officially opened its doors on 22/2/22 and was inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed himself alongside his sons His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

    The spectacular opening of the building marked a new chapter for Dubai with MOTF set to give a “message of hope, a global scientific platform and an integrated institutional framework to shape a better future for all of us”, Sheikh Mohammed said.
    What is the Museum of the Future?
    MOTF is described on the museum’s website, it’s a “home for inspiration, open to all”.
    Back in September 2021, Emirates Woman became the first publication to shoot on the site of the Museum of the Future for The Icon Issue’s cover shoot.
    As part of this groundbreaking issue, we spoke to Majed Al Mansoori, Deputy Executive Director of the Museum of the Future about the primary focus of the new iconic Dubai landmark.

    “The Museum of the Future is a transformative environment that will engage all senses in a life-altering experience that will invite visitors to look at their world through a new lens and encourage them to embrace innovative ways of thinking,” he said.
    “It will showcase living, breathing examples of a better, hopeful future. It strives to be a place of tolerance and inclusiveness and promote a pro-human value system.”
    Now, Sheikha Mahra is just one of many who has visited this iconic Dubai building.

    In pics: Sheikh Hamdan celebrates victory with British royals at Royal Ascot

    His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has made an appearance at Royal Ascot in the UK.
    The Crown Prince of Dubai was seen in the company of British royals, Charles, Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall as they watched some of the world’s finest racehorses compete, including one of Sheikh Hamdan’s very own.
    In fact, it was a day of celebration for the Crown Prince as Godolphin – the Dubai royal family’s private Thoroughbred horseracing stable – was victorious at the St James’s Palace Stakes Group 1 flat horse race. Godolphin’s horse Coroebus, ridden by jockey William Buick, came first in the race.
    His Highness shared photos celebrating the victory with the stallion, jockey and trainer Charlie Appleby. In the photos shared, the Crown Prince of Dubai is seen receiving a trophy from the Duchess of Cornwall following the horse’s victory.

    Sheikh Hamdan’s cousin, Her Highness Sheikha Hissa bint Hamadan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was also present at the races and also celebrated a win.
    Horse Baaeed and jockey Jim Crowley of Shadwell Racing – founded by the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, former Deputy Ruler of Dubai – came first in the Queen Anne Stakes Group 1.
    Sheikha Hissa, Crowley and trainer William Haggas were all seen together holding trophies to celebrate the stallion’s win.
    The Dubai royal family have a long-standing history in the equestrian space both at home and internationally after the family stables Godolphin was founded in 1992.

    Sheikha Manal shares throwback photo of Sheikha Fatima to mark her 16th birthday

    Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared a sweet throwback photo of her daughter, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to mark her birthday.
    The young sheikha turned 16 years old on Thursday and her mother, daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, posted a heartwarming message to her daughter alongside the snap.
    “Happy birthday my beautiful princess… I love you so much,” she said in the caption of the photo of a younger Sheikha Fatima from her childhood years.

    Last month, to mark Eid Al Fitr celebrations, Sheikha Manal shared a series of individual portraits of Sheikha Fatima and her younger children with their grandfather, Sheikh Mohammed.
    The first was a heartwarming shot of the Dubai Ruler embracing Sheikha Fatima. The other three shots were of Sheikha Latifa bint Mansour, Sheikh Rashid bin Mansour and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mansour, all with their doting grandfather.

    Sheikha Fatima, an avid horse rider, is the first child of His Highness Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Sheikha Manal.

    Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has reached an incredible milestone, becoming the first British monarch in history to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
    To mark the history-making anniversary, a four-day celebration took place in the United Kingdom which included Trooping the Colour, a huge concert outside Buckingham Palace, a pageant, a thanksgiving service and much more.
    The Queen herself, despite suffering mobility issues as of late, made several appearances during the celebrations including during Trooping the Colour where she wore a stunning pale blue ensemble; leading the lighting of the Principal Platinum Jubilee Beacon from Windsor Castle; an endearing skit with British icon Paddington Bear; and she made a surprise appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the pageant in a striking bright green ensemble.
    Other members of the British royal family also made multiple public appearances this weekend including Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Princess Anne and more.

    As the celebrations came to a close on Sunday, June 5, 2022, the Queen issued a heartwarming statement sharing her gratitude as people celebrated her reign as monarch the globe over.
    “When it comes to how to mark 70 years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow. It really is a first,” she said. “But I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.
    “While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.”
    She went on to say how she has been “inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship” displayed during the celebrations, adding that she hopes “this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come”.
    “I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have all played in these happy celebrations,” she concluded.

    Watch: Sheikha Mozah Al Maktoum breaks a huge record for women everywhere

    Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Al Maktoum is no stranger to breaking records in the UAE, having become the first Emirati woman to join the Dubai Police as a helicopter pilot back in 2019.
    Now, the Dubai royal has broken another record in the world of aviation, becoming the first female to pilot the AW609 tiltrotor, an air vehicle which combines the operational versatility of a helicopter and the performance of an aeroplane.
    Her Highness piloted the groundbreaking aircraft at the US helicopter headquarters of Leonardo, a global high-tech player in Aerospace, Defence and Security, located in Philadelphia.

    Discussing her record-breaking experience, the former Emirates Woman cover star shared her pride at being able to reach a milestone further shattering “another glass ceiling for women”.
    “I’m thrilled to be the first female pilot to test this revolutionary aircraft,” she said in a statement per the Dubai Media Office. “It was not only a personal milestone but an opportunity to shatter another glass ceiling for women.

    “I always push myself beyond my limits to prove that if I can do it, it is also within the reach of anyone else who is determined enough to try.”
    She described the experience of piloting the AW609 tiltrotor as a “natural evolution of my piloting experience”, combining her experience as an Emirates commercial pilot and helicopter pilot for Dubai Police.

    “Aircrafts like the AW609 tiltrotor makes me feel really excited about the future of aviation, a future now open to more women who chose this industry,” she added.
    The innovative aircraft is a trailblazer in the aircraft space combining the take-off and landing vertically of the helicopter with the pressurised cabin, speed, altitude and endurance abilities of an aeroplane.
    Her Highness became the first Emirati royal to qualify as a commercial pilot for Emirates Airlines in 2016 and became the first Emirati woman to join the Dubai Police as a helicopter pilot in 2019.

    Sheikha Fatima sends condolences as Queen Rania mourns her father’s death

    Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan is mourning the loss of her father, Dr. Faisal Sidqi Al Yasin, who passed away on Friday.
    In the wake of his death, King Abdullah II of Jordan announced a seven-day mourning period across the country.
    Queen Rania shared the news of her father’s death on Instagram posting a photo of him.
    “Oh God, on Friday, open the gates of heaven for my father’s soul, and the gates of your mercy and paradise,” she said in the caption.
    Condolences for the King and Queen of Jordan came in their masses, including from Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, who expressed her sympathy following the passing of Dr. Al Yasin.

    Per WAM, “Sheikha Fatima expressed sympathy with Queen Rania, and prayed to Allah Almighty to bless the soul of her father”.
    Dr. Al Yasin. was laid to rest on Saturday at the Royal Cemetery in Jordan where King Abdullah and Crown Prince Hussein participated in the funeral.
    Queen Rania’s father was born in 1934 in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm in the West Bank.
    He went on to study medicine at Egypt’s Cairo University and completed further studies in Northern Ireland, eventually moving to Kuwait – where Queen Rania was born – and went on to retire in Jordan.

    Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania celebrated 76 years since Jordan became an independent state in a special way.
    The royal couple stepped out on May 25, 2022, at Al Husseiniya Palace for a special ceremony to mark the anniversary when Jordan gained its independence from the British government.
    The Jordanian monarch and Queen Rania were joined by their children Crown Prince Hussein, Princess Iman and Prince Hashem – Princess Salma did not appear to be in attendance – as well as other dignitaries and senior officials.
    The theme of the ceremony celebrated the future of the nation, highlighting the younger generations who will carry the flag for the country.
    King Abdullah presented a number of royal medals at the ceremony and a number of acts also performed for the guests.
    Queen Rania shared a number of photos from the special occasion. “God bless our country and its people,” she said in the caption of the post.
