Some residents in Dubai can now apply for face mask exemptions

Over the last eight months throughout the global pandemic, wearing masks in the UAE has become part of the new normal.
However, it has now been announced that those who have medical conditions that are heightened by wearing a mask could apply for exemption from wearing one.

In an announcement by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Dubai Police, it was stated that residents in the emirate who have certain medical conditions affected by wearing a mask could be granted permission not to wear one.
Permits can be applied for via http://dxbpermit.gov.ae. The application must include a medically certified report detailing the health issue at hand and Emirates ID details also need to be given.

DHA’s General Medical Committee Office will evaluate the applications, which must include a medical report confirming the applicant suffers from medical problems that can be aggravated by face masks. The application will be processed within five days.

“DHA’s General Medical Committee Office will evaluate the applications, which must include a medical report confirming the applicant suffers from medical problems that can be aggravated by face masks,” Dubai Media Office stated. “The application will be processed within five days.”
The Dubai Media Office also outlined those who could be eligible for mask exemptions:
Those suffering from fungal dermatitis, especially if they have severe symptoms in the face like bleeding, itching and scaly skin.
Those allergic to any component of a mask (allergic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, contact urticaria).
Individuals with severe herpes simplex infection that affects the mouth, nose or face.
Individuals with acute and uncontrolled chronic sinusitis.
    Patients with uncontrolled asthma
People of Determination who have mental and psychological conditions.
The authority also stressed that while those who are granted an exemption are not required to wear a mask, it is advised that they should wear one where possible in order to minimise the risk of infection for both themselves and others.

One of our favourite DIFC hotspots named the best bar in the Middle East

One of our favourite Dubai hotspots has been named the best bar in the Middle East and Africa.
Taking the top spot in the region is popular establishment Zuma Dubai, located in DIFC.

In the World’s 50 Best Bars 2020 list it was the only Dubai-based bar and establishment in the region to make the list, ranking at number 23.
Prior to this achievement, the multi-award-winning Zuma Dubai restaurant and cocktail bar ranked number 44 in 2015.

Discussing the achievement, Zuma’s Global Bar Development Director Jimmy Barrat shared his surprise at the ranking.
“This year being ranked at 23 is incredible and much higher than I ever expected,” Barrat said in a statement. “I am immensely proud of our team, especially with the unforeseen challenges of this year.”

However, as Barrat explained, Zuma Dubai has not been an overnight success. First founded in London by Rainer Becker and Arjun Waney in 2002, Zuma then made its way to Dubai in 2008.
“Zuma Dubai has been a labour of love, it wasn’t something that happened overnight but is the reward after 12 years of hard work,” Barrat acknowledged. “The consistency and retention of a team sharing the same goal, pushing the boundaries of creativity and believing in a part of the world that wasn’t on the cocktail craftsmanship map.
“Our guests at Zuma are the ones that keep us driving forward, so it is important to also thank them for their continued support over the years.”
Amongst the top 100 bars in the world, the only other regional establishment to make the list was Galaxy Bar, also located in DIFC, which ranked at number 67.

Gigi Hadid shares a new photo with her newborn daughter

Gigi Hadid has shared a new photograph with her newborn daughter on Instagram.
Keeping the six-week-old baby girl’s face hidden, the supermodel shared a selfie with her daughter who was cuddling up to her mum.

And, of course, while she is currently off-duty from modelling, the 25-year-old still looked effortlessly chic despite becoming a mum less than two months ago.

The new mum sweetly captioned the snap, “She burps sunshine.”
It’s not the first snap Hadid has shared of her baby girl. Last week, she posted the first Hadid-Malik family photo complete with herself, baby girl Hadid-Malik and new dad Zayn Malik in celebration of Halloween.
While it’s the first family photo she has shared, Hadid kept her daughter’s face hidden and prior to this only photos of the newborn’s hand had been shown.
Similarly, to date, the name of baby Hadid-Malik has been kept private, but according to E! News, the newborn’s moniker is “unique”.

Hadid’s pregnancy was first reported on back in April. The model first spoke of her pregnancy – news which was revealed in the press and not by herself or Malik – during a video call appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, admitting they would have liked to reveal the news on their “own terms”, but also thanked everyone for their congratulations.
“Obviously, we wish we could’ve announced it on our own terms, but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support,” she said at the time.

Saudi Arabia makes its first recruitment of an all-female paramedic team

In recent years, there have been a myriad of positive changes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia giving women more rights in the country than ever before.
From women now being allowed to drive, travel without a guardian and appointing women to positions that had previously been reserved for men, such as Her Royal Highness Princess Reema bint Bandar being appointed the first female Saudi ambassador to the USA.

Back in September, a light was shined on one of the very first female ambulance drivers in the Kingdom, and now, two months on, a major hospital in the country’s capital has appointed its first all-female paramedics’ team.

    — مجموعة د.سليمان الحبيب الطبية (@HMG) November 1, 2020

The hospital in Riyadh, run by Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group, announced the exciting news on Twitter, sharing a photo of the all-female team who will be specialising in emergency departments in Saudi Arabia.
“In an unprecedented qualitative step, Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group has recruited Saudi paramedics at the first female field medical team specialised in emergency departments, as they will work alongside the Rapid Response Team (RRT) to provide emergency services for emergency cases and transport patients through ambulances around the clock, under the supervision of the Tele Emergency Center (TEC) for the emergency departments of the group,” the medical group said in a statement.
The changes are part of the many initiatives under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 scheme, an ambitious post-oil economic plan, which has a major focus on women’s rights in the Kingdom.
Just three months after he stepped into the role in 2017, the Crown Prince unveiled in a royal decree, women would be able to secure driving licenses from June 2018 and he has gone on to do much more.

Bella Hadid shares her pride for her Palestinian heritage in a meaningful post

Bella Hadid often shows how proud she is of her Palestinian heritage, which is where her father, Mohamed Hadid, was born.
To mark his birthday, the model shared a heartfelt Instagram post about her father, as well as paying tribute to her Palestinian heritage, sharing a series of photos with her dad.

“Happy birthday to my baba,” she said. “I always loved to be with you.”

The supermodel also shared a photo of herself with Mohamed, 72, in the kitchen, reflecting on her Palestinian roots and cooking with her father
“I love learning how to cook Palestinian food with you,” she said. “Thank you for teaching me about our culture. I love Palestine and you so much.
“Your roots will forever be intertwined within our family line. It’s my favourite part about us.”
Earlier this year the 24-year-old opened up about how proud she was to have Palestinian roots, but the post was subsequently removed from Instagram for supposedly “violating their community guidelines”.

However, the social media platform realised this was a mistake admitting the “content shouldn’t have been removed” and also apologised to the supermodel for the mistake.
More recently, Mohamed reflected on his childhood hardships having to flee his home country when he was just a baby, and becoming a refugee along with his other family members.
Sharing a picture from his younger years, the property tycoon explained that he doesn’t have “a single picture of me [as] when I was a baby I was just about 9 days old when I and my family were refugees to the refugee camps in Syria from Palestine”.
He shared his thanks to Syria, Lebanon and Tunisia and most of all Jordan, where he and his family received Jordanian citizenship many years ago.
He also shared his gratitude for being able to relocate to the USA with his family.
