Sheikha Bodour becomes the first Arab woman to lead this century-old initiative

Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi has become the first-ever Arab woman to head up an 124-year-old international organisation.
It was announced on Monday that Sheikha Bodour has been appointed President of the International Publishers Association (IPA), an organisation which was established in 1896. She will officially assume the position at the beginning of next year in January 2021.

Prior to being appointed president, Sheikha Bodour had been vice president of the international organisation since 2018.
For years, Sheikha Bodour has continually championed the publishing industry in the UAE and the wider GCC region.

In 2007, she founded Kalimat Group, which became the first publishing group in the UAE focussing on children’s books in Arabic. She is also the founder of the Emirates Publishers Association, which was established in 2009, and is the founder of the UAE Board on Books for Young People.
Being an avid supporter and leader in the UAE publishing industry, earlier this year Sheikha Bodour launched a Dhs1 million emergency fund to help the industry which has been struggling due to the knock-on effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Emirates Publishers Emergency Fund worked with local publishers and Emirati bookmakers in order to identify the challenges the industry is currently dealing, with the aim of helping to boost business.
“With every crisis, comes an opportunity, and we need to rope in appropriate mechanisms to boost industry resilience and emerge out of it stronger,” Sheikha Bodour said at the time. “Today, we stand with our publishers to support and lead them onward to fulfilling vital projects that will boost our knowledge and creativity.”

Bella Hadid pays tribute to her Palestinian heritage with two new tattoos

Bella Hadid never shies away from sharing her pride to be Palestinian, but the supermodel recently made a more permanent move to pay tribute to her heritage.
The 24-year-old has inked herself with two new tattoos in Arabic script which acknowledges her Palestinian background, which is where her father, Mohamed Hadid, was born.

The supermodel recruited celebrity tattoo artist Dr. Woo to complete the new tattoos, which were done in a very minimal design.
The artist shared the new inkings on Instagram saying, “Some writings for the always kind and lovely @bellahadid.”

The Arabic script which can be seen on the model’s shoulders translates in English to “my love” and “I love you”.

Hadid’s father recently publicly reflected on having to leave Palestine when he was just a newborn baby, becoming a refugee along with his other family members.
Sharing a picture from his younger years, the 72-year-old explained that he doesn’t have “a single picture of me [as] when I was a baby I was just about 9 days old when I and my family were refugees to the refugee camps in Syria from Palestine”.
He shared his thanks to Syria, Lebanon and Tunisia and most of all Jordan, where he and his family received Jordanian citizenship many years ago.
He also shared his gratitude for being able to relocate to the USA with his family.
While the model’s father is Palestinian, her mother, Yolanda Hadid, is from The Netherlands, making her Palestinian-Dutch., which she states in her Instagram bio.

Hande Erçel rumoured to be dating co-star after splitting from Murat Dalkılıç

Back in August, it was confirmed that Hande Erçel had split from her longtime partner Murat Dalkılıç five months after they became engaged at the beginning of this year.
Now, three months on, the Turkish actress is rumoured to be dating her current co-star, Kerem Bürsin.

Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported that the pair have recently been spotted out and about together, but alluded to the fact it may be in promotion of their show Sen Çal Kapımı (You Knock on My Door).
As the pair were seen out and about together, they discussed the coronavirus pandemic and the need for people to wear masks.

“These are sad images,” Bürsin told the outlet. “People should be more sensitive and they should wear their masks.”
Erçel, 26, also admitted she found it “sad” that people weren’t wearing masks.
“People have to respect their own lives, of course, but when there is such a mourning, we are all torn, I wish we were more sensitive,” she said.
Erçel confirmed her split from ex Dalkılıç on social media a few months ago. The now-former couple began dating in 2017 and after three years together Dalkılıç popped the question at the beginning of 2020.
