How SHA Wellness launched the world’s first anti-ageing bed for total regerenation

Dr. Vicente Mera, Head of Internal Medicine and Anti-Ageing, Anti-Tobacco and Sleep Medicine at SHA Wellness Clinic on the latest advances in wellness.
Talk us through your career to date.
I am a Spanish senior consultant physician and specialist in Internal Medicine, trained at the Clinica Puerta de Hierro (Madrid, Spain) after more than 30 years of clinical bedside practice in hospitals. Fifteen years ago, I obtained (London, UK and Melbourne, Australia) the registration (ABAARM) of A4A and became the head of the Anti-ageing Department at SHA Wellness Clinic. In recent years, I have dedicated my practice to preventing, diagnosing, and treating accelerated ageing on the clinical ground. My practical expertise includes genomics, microbiota, physical training, sleep medicine, cognitive disorders, immunotherapy, hormonal replacement, healthy nutrition, detoxifying procedures, stress management, and regenerative and revitalising medicine to give more life to years, rather than more years to life. I look at the Eastern methods for healthy ageing treatments, mainly related to nutrition and stress management, with great interest as a helpful counterpart. In October 2022, I received a European Medical Award in Medicine for the category of “Anti- ageing Medicine” in Paris. I am the author of several articles published in academic journals of medicine, as well as my latest book, “Joven A Cualquier Edad” (English version -Young At Any Age- coming soon)

SHA Wellness Clinic provides the latest advances in Western medicine – was this key from the outset?
SHA Wellness Clinic exists today as the result of a transformative personal health experience under- gone by the destination’s founder, Alfredo Bataller Parietti. Bataller Parietti was unfortunate to receive a troubling diagnosis from a doctor, that was a threat to his quality of life. Alfredo was able to overcome the condition with integrative medicine, in particular with healthy and healing nutrition, natural therapies and lifestyle changes. Inspired by his experience, Bataller Parietti, along with the support of his family, set out to create a unique project that combined techniques and therapies from both medical and natural therapies to help people have longer and better-quality lives. This is the founding concept of SHA Wellness, which was founded in 2008 near Altea Bay in Spain. Since its opening, the property’s team of certified medical and wellness experts has successfully merged ancient philosophies with the latest advances in Western and Eastern medicine to generate scientifically proven results and become a world-leading authority on preventive health. Today, SHA Wellness Clinic is a global pioneer in preventive medicine and holistic wellness. The SHA 360o SHA method is the term given to the fusion of the latest advances in scientific medicine with the most effective and proven natural therapies, combined with healthy and balanced nutrition, that collectively provide an ideal state of health.
The clinic has the world’s first anti-ageing bed – tell us more.
To further enhance guest sleep experience, SHA has incorporated the HOGO sleep system which can be found exclusively at the Presidential and Royal suites. This is a new and improved mattress concept that instantly improves the quality of sleep, promotes mental balance, reduces stress and cell regeneration, and enhances overall daily functionality. This innovative invention also helps to reverse the signs of ageing and encourages the body’s natural ability to regenerate during sleep thus improving immune function and guaranteeing an overall healthier lifestyle. Aside from being an anti-ageing rest system, HOGO has been credited to improve athletes’ recovery time by acting as a potent anti-inflammatory while also reducing basal cortisol and improving the immune system. Cristiano Ronaldo and his wife Georgina Rodriguez have claimed to have felt the change this has had in their sleep since the beginning of using the system and they credit it as ‘the secret’ to effectively managing their busy lifestyles.

You focus on bioidentical hormone therapy and genomic counselling – how does this naturally cure ailments?
Genetic counselling lets you know your health’s weakest and most vital points. The best hormonal environment enables the prevention and, eventually, cure of ailments related to overeating, lack of exercise, poor stress management, detox capacity, sleep disturbances and microbiota dysbiosis.
The clinic offers a host of treatments including anti-smoking pro- grammes, nutrition therapies and more. Can you expand on these offerings?
SHA Wellness offers six programs including Optimal Weight, Advanced Detox, Intensive/Optimal Weight and Advanced Detox, Healthy Ageing, Rebalance and Leader’s Performance – cu- rated to address different health concerns, requirements and objectives. There are also four ‘focused’ divisions, addressing specific health issues including Gut Health, Sleep Recover, Stress Management and Anti-Tobacco. The anti-tobacco programme offers various treatments and therapies focused on addictions to help transition away from smoking in a healthy and controlled manner. With the goal to recover normal bodily functions without the challenging side effects of withdrawal and relapse, SHA’s team of professionals encourage healthier habits for guest lifestyles and to strengthen their commitment to permanently quitting tobacco. The programme begins with a general health checkup followed by individualized treatments including acupuncture, magneto therapy, aquatic therapy, relaxation and more. A personalised nutrition and health plan is then curated for every individual’s physical requirement and for a unique and fully holistic experience.
“This innovative invention also helps to reverse the signs of ageing and encourages the body’s natural ability to regenerate during sleep.”
The facility improves clients’ long-term sleep – talk us through this programme.
‘Sleep Recovery’ is one of the more focused divisions at SHA, combining Western diagnostic techniques and natural therapies to alleviate sleep problems and put the body in total rest mode. The recommended stay is seven or fourteen days and includes a general medical consultation with a specialist at the beginning and at the end of the course. In addition, guests will receive individual treatments and therapies best suited to them, including a polygraph for the diagnosis of sleep at night, neurocognitive assessment, stress management session, energy health assessment, infrared heat and electromagnetic balance session, mindfulness session, Tibetan healing bowls therapy, brain pho- photobiomodulation session, psychophysiological monitoring of sleep and more. The primary objective is to identify the integrative causes that generate sleep problems, via measurements using specialised technology of the natural rhythms of the human body. Once the origin of the pathology has been determined, specific treatments and therapies focused on the gradual restoration of the natural sleep cycle are then applied, in order to achieve restful sleep and recover adequate energy levels for a full and healthy life. Guests will also have full access to SHA’s world-class wellness facilities, receive a bespoke nutrition plan and enjoy delicious and healthy gastronomy from SHA’s talented culinary team.
Wellness concepts have grown in the Middle East over the years – how have you seen this evolve?
The wellness industry in the Middle East has demonstrated significant growth in recent years and this trend is set to continue. For many years, travellers within the region have regularly enjoyed massages and yoga retreats in traditional spa facilities, but when the pandemic hit, wellness took a new urgency and became a priority for many. This accelerated the demand for bespoke destinations that incorporated holistic and advanced wellness treatments with integra- tive solutions to promote long-term health for body, mind and soul. Over the years, we had many guests from the Middle East visit SHA Wellness in Spain, a strong reflection of the growing demand from this region for transformative wellness experiences. With this in mind, the UAE was the perfect location in which to expand our presence and deliver our unique approach to integrative health for new audiences.

SHA Emirates is set to open in 2025 – what can we expect at this one-of-a-kind getaway?
After a decade of transforming the lives of thousands of people from around the world at our current location in Spain, we dreamt of crossing the seas to new continents. We wanted more and more people to benefit from our philosophy of integrative health and well-being. For years we travelled to dozens of locations in search of the perfect nature, warm weather, and accessibility to replicate SHA. It was not easy, but we finally found everything we could imagine and more at the seaside destination of AlJurf, in the United Arab Emirates. The luxury development is surrounded by wildlife and nestled in a beautiful serene landscape. It’s the perfect place for people looking to escape city life and recuperate”, said Alejandro Bataller Pineda, Vice President of SHA Wellness Clinic. The opening of SHA Emirates is set to bring world-class treatments to the region for the very first time. SHA Wellness Clinic has become a benchmark for luxury wellness. Always ahead of every innovation in the field, the brand has become a global name synonymous with medical advances and pioneering programs, certified through the almost 100 international awards received during its 11 years of existence.

Hôtel des Horlogers is a must-visit destination for Audemars Piguet aficionados

    Life

    by Camille Macawili

Hôtel des Horlogers, which literally translates to the hotel of watchmakers, is a tribute to the surrounding landscape and a meeting point for local and international watchmaking, architecture and nature lovers.
Inspired by the Vallé de Joux, one of the cradles of Swiss watchmaking, Hôtel des Horlogers opened its doors in the village of Le Brassus, where its predecessor, the Hôtel de France, settled in 1857. It is thoughtfully designed by global architecture firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and realised by the Swiss architecture office CCHE, two partners who also signed the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet situated a few steps away.
Departing from the usual codes of hotel architecture, Hôtel des Horlogers’ zigzagging architecture descends towards the surrounding meadows and seamlessly integrates into the Vallée de Joux’s pastoral landscape. Inside, the simple lines and refined language of the contemporary lobby contrast with the more sinuous and rustic architectural elements that visitors can admire.
The superior boutique hotel takes on a holistic and sustainable approach and is echoed from the building development to its day-to-day operations to reduce its environmental impact.

    The Stay
Having been inspired by the beauty of the Risoud Forest, which borders the valley, Danish architect Bjarke Ingels conceived the hotel so that all the rooms would offer a breathtaking view of the region. Made of local materials such as stone and wood, the interior design imagined by AUM invites guests to take their time and connect with the surrounding environment. The 50 rooms, varying from the Valley Guest Room to the Signature Suite, expertly blend quality, comfort and conviviality.

    The Dining
Le Gogant restaurant presents a refined local cuisine by French three-Michelin-starred Chef Emmanuel Renaut that relies on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients for a unique exploration of the senses.
    The Hero Experience
As part of the hotel’s watchmaking packages, guests can explore Audemars Piguet’s savoir-faire during a guided tour of the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet. Located a few steps away from the hotel, the ultra-contemporary pavilion displays Audemars Piguet’s rich cultural heritage with a display of 300 timepieces spanning over 150 years of history.
Other guided tours for nearby prestigious horological landmarks such as the Espace Horloger, Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture or the AstroVal observatory are available in these packages.

What you need to know for 2023’s first Eclipse series

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

As the final Full Moon lunation in Libra passes, it asks, what have you missed? It is something you may have overlooked. It needs more clarity, so please give it some attention. Thankfully, Jupiter was near the Sun, which is very beneficial so you can expect positive news shortly. Even if you are not overly ambitious, the house topics point to success, luck, and limelight in your career, around your workplace or in areas related to your health. Everything will depend on how you feel, although your need for recognition should err toward more modest behaviours rather than trying to outshine the ‘Master’
. More importantly, you’re also probably thinking, is it Eclipse season again? You may recall the last series in early November, where we forewarned you that Pluto would reveal his plans for 2024 by April 2023. And just like that, we have arrived at that point. If you missed that prediction, then head to thekarmicsoul.com
Let’s do a quick astrological (and astronomical) refresh. Eclipses travel in zodiacal opposition, in pairs, two weeks apart. This is another of our seven-part Taurus-Scorpio series that began on 19 November 2021. They wrap up their latest life lessons for us on 28 October 2023. Eclipses aim to open new energetic gateways through undeniable and decidedly uncomfortable situations. They will always form a powerful part of your karmic journey through life.
This series takes place in two fixed signs, so those with personal planets in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius must pay particular attention. Try to keep a journal during Eclipse time to remind yourself of any breakthroughs or discoveries you may have. The devil will be in the detail. As the Moon crosses the Ecliptic, or path of the Sun, it forms an exact degree and minute of the opposite sign in the chart. The Nodes work together to create a balance; the North seeks fulfillment and growth; the South struggles to maintain the status quo.
The New Moon in Taurus Eclipse on 21 April sits in the house of partnerships and long-term commitments. Do you know where it’s heading? It suggests some may have second thoughts about committing to a current collaboration, union, or somewhere they find sensual pleasure. The Taurus New Moon Eclipse opposes Scorpio’s South Node, suggesting that some may need a romantic break from their loved ones in favour of more time with their friends. Remember, as the North and South Nodes transit through each zodiac sign; they work with the moon to test your feelings and challenge the direction around the particular house topic it touches. This time, the Moon will be exalted in a very adamant Taurus. Watch out for fluctuating moods around 7th house topics. Some may be touchy, brooding, selfish, and emotionally manipulative.
The precursor, of course, is MEN, who are happily married. They do not want the drama or the ramifications of what divorce brings. Could you give them some space anyway? Can they escape into their man cave and do whatever they need? This is especially true if they like to create or play music, write or be involved in stage, television or film. It appears they are stuck or struggling with a particular concept or idea that is readily accepted by a bigger group of people, and men, as we know, can be like a dog with a bone.
Mercury is transiting through Venus-ruled Taurus, strongly challenged by Scorpio’s two ruling planets, Mars and a subversive Pluto, pushing for long-term change. They are trying to create some thinking room around your home life.

Women want to be recognised for what they know and have to contribute emotionally to a partnership. Mercury is pushing them to have conversations around love, intimacy, and stability, and she knows what she needs to say. It could go either way, so we look to natal Mars in Cancer to see what she says: “I need my desires met”, or we need to have a new partnership philosophy moving forward. Pluto suggests a choice needs to be made between your old self or where you currently live and the desire for more personal freedom.
Deep down, you know you’ve seen better days. Inconsistent and unreliable events force you to ride the inevitable waves of emotion.
The Universe wants you to be a true embodiment of your spirit – put yourself first. Mars and Saturn have worked together to help push you toward your goals. Black Moon Lilith has one eye firmly on the spotlight, moving you toward your success, but at the expense of others.
The Full Moon in Scorpio’s Solar Eclipse illuminates our skies on 5 May, signalling what must be left behind yet again. It’s not easy; it is fraught with conflict and hard work. The problems from the New Moon Eclipse are now layered with behind-the-scenes questions, some deep and penetrating, with unknowable answers. Mercury can appear almost accusatory. Expect some behind-the-scenes detective work by the emotionally thwarted!
On a brighter note, that feeling of relative freedom is so incredibly liberating. Love is discombobulated. The energy flows toward Neptune, clouding any certainty around your options. Where should you go, and what should you do? Perhaps you have taken things for granted? Neptune suggests any deception was gradual and hidden by moments of beautiful intimacy.
Business partnerships are bubbling nicely if you focus on communications, science, spiritualism, and technology. The team is a terrific blend of entrepreneurial spirit and talent. Creative houses also run by men are favoured. They have the edge at the moment and are well-liked by their clients.
Wait! Who’s shining in their career? I will tell you who! Those who have done the work. They are dedicated, bursting with new concepts, and carefully paying attention to detail. Anyone with a discerning eye for beauty should expect favourable reviews.

Happy Astrological New Year: Get ready to thrive

    Words by Kirstyn Lewis
    Happy New Zodiacal Year
The new astrological year starts just past 8:00 pm Dubai time on 21 March,2023. The New Moon in Aries will be at 0º sidling right up to the Sun Aries, which is also at 0º in the house of long-term commitments. It looks like you are kick-starting your energy in a new direction, and Jupiter has already started to pave the way by opening up opportunities for you. What a perfect time for empowering new moon affirmations and intentional beginnings!
The stars are asking, how and in what ways can you thrive? There is a deep focus on career, reputation and status and the determination to succeed is evident. It looks like you must take a risk by thinking outside the square, and learning from any mistakes you may have made in the past. All talk and no action will not unfortunately drive things forward.
Those taking a more out-of-sight, out-of-mind approach to issues around work should be careful. Jealousy, criticism, and gossip are building. But wait, it looks like any hidden enemies will soon be flushed out. You’ve had plenty of time to think about a situation, can you contribute instead to a fresh perspective and approach?
Those working in caring professions or recruitment, film and television, photography, writing, spiritual practices, or water-related industries including sport, and marine biology, should expect new projects they’ve been working on to take hold very soon.
There is an opportunity for pioneering and competitive types amongst you to see your potential take off in a good way over the next few months. You are not seeking fanfare; you just want to feel more appreciated, preferably doing something you love or for yourself.
Are you starting a new enterprise or thinking of going into partnership with a friend? The stars are shining brightly for you. Make sure over the next three years you bring to the market something useful around communications, for use at home or whilst travelling. It should be made to last and seems to be a great gift idea, it’s a winner!
The biggest astrological news for the New Year is that Pluto is changing signs, albeit moving at a snail’s pace into Aquarius on 24 March. Pluto is an exceedingly powerful planet, he waited to make his move in Aries season so everyone would understand who’s the Boss. Since February 2008, he has systematically broken down seemingly more conventional ways of doing business, traditional leadership models, and corporate structures. He affects not only you personally but also entire generations as he uncovers what has been covered, affecting us for the rest of our lives.
We will be given a preview from 24 March until mid-June 2023 when he slowly slips back into Capricorn. Pluto takes around two years to settle into his new role.
Pluto is about to become more risk-taking in what he wants to destroy, reform or fuse together. He also rules phobias and obsessions, anonymity and regeneration. What calls your attention? Don’t be too self-assured, there is a strong possibility that you will have to solve complex problems alone and unaided. Expect some surprises you didn’t see coming.
For some, Pluto brings risks around gambling, financially or emotionally. For others, we see an uptake of more online erotica or sexual manipulation, or the opposite looms; a life of celibacy.
Pregnancies appear more troublesome, for no apparent reason. Pluto rules the eliminative and reproductive systems. Some women may take longer to fall pregnant or need to rely on scientific methods. Although fewer children appear to be born during this time, they will be Universally more spiritual, sensitive and ‘in touch’.
Will secrets be exposed around children, relatives, or even romance? Will you be involved in forbidden or dangerous love affairs that make you feel “emotionally alive”?
Until January 2044 and just beyond, we will all see great gains in technology, science, space travel and women’s health can be expected. What’s very interesting will be revelations or a sense of enlightenment around how we choose to pass over. Acceptance around death, rebirth, and reincarnation appears to gain traction as scientists discover that life is not quite how we think it is. Spiritualists, energy workers and astrologers will also become more commonplace in the workplace, or as more widely accepted professions.
We also see that Mars is about to wrap up an extra, super-long transit through venturesome Gemini. He has been playing games and in some instances, not being honest, since August 2022. Thankfully we have had enough, so welcome his move into Cancer on 26 March.
Highlighted around this energy, are still things to finish off related to foreign shores and in-laws. More difficult aspects point to a moral or ethical battle you may be having. Are you feeling combative? Are you involved in something controversial? Has someone been unwilling to compromise because they are sticking up for someone else?
You may want to protect your energy and reputation; emotionally driven quarrels are indicated. All the pent-up frustration centres around someone you love deeply or someone close to your heart. They are directly related to your life’s journey.
Alternatively, it could also relate to a scheming authority figure, so watch out for manipulation there and be prepared to stand your ground.
That said, Mars in Cancer is not a comfortable placement for an action-oriented planet. He struggles to operate effectively and get outcomes. It’s all steam without an engine so expect a temperamental couple of months ahead. It’s likely you may not see a victory until after 21 May.
Over the last three days of March and mid-way through its Aries transit, Mercury nestles right up to Jupiter in the house of commitment. They’re talking about your future.
Perhaps you ‘feel’ that you are on the verge of something great; things are certainly looking up, particularly around work. Those with softer, feminine energy should watch out for deals and agreements as roles with more responsibility are on the table. However, it’s not the time to discuss your dreams. Position yourself instead as a futurist who can drive the groundswell of financially viable new-age concepts and directions, particularly when having important career conversations.
Mars in Cancer who has just entered the house of fortune, fame and honours, will also be making a lovely aspect to Saturn in Pisces on 28 March putting you in the spotlight. Make sure you are looking your most graceful and ladylike best. If you have any doubts, Venus and Uranus will be working hard to unblock them and help you get out of your comfort zone with sparkle and an exciting allure. See! The stars are all working together to help you.
The only downside you may wish to consider is a Venus-Uranus conjunction which can be tricky if you are seeking answers around love. Venus seeks love and harmony, and Uranus freedom, variety and an escape route. There can be some unexpected excitement in the air. For some, this aspect indicates multiple liaisons are at play, but you probably already had an inkling. Others may confuse friendship and love. There is no point in dreaming. Wait until 11 April onward and have the conversation, even if you may not get the answers you want. It could be time to put yourself in the driver’s seat and move on.
How will you shine? It’s time to step into your dignified, idealistic self and know that karma is in play.
