Ultraboost Light Unveiled As The Latest Innovation From adidas Running

The South African Marathon season is approaching fast. With the Two Oceans Ultra and Half Marathon scheduled for Saturday, 15 April and Sunday, 16 April 2023 respectively.

Running is booming in our country, and, along with a huge increase in runners – by more than 10% since the 2020 lockdown, the tech in running shoes is forging ahead.

One of the heroes of the new evolution of running-specific shoes is the BOOST cushioning from adidas. This month adidas unveiled the latest member of its most iconic running shoe franchise – the Ultraboost Light. Testament to their constant strive to take innovation to the next level, and in response to consumer feedback, the new Ultraboost Light has a ground-breaking new material at its core – Light BOOST.

Marking a decade since the introduction of BOOST technology, the new and improved Ultraboost Light benefits from 30% lighter BOOST material. Resulting in a performance running shoe designed to offer epic energy, plush cushioning, comfort and responsiveness.

Taking runners’ experiences to the next level, the all-new Ultraboost Light also includes:

A redesigned Linear Energy Point (LEP) found on the sole of the shoe reworked to optimise responsiveness and work in harmony with the new Light BOOST material.

PRIMEKNIT+ upper for an adapted fit that provides breathability and comfort.

Continental™ natural performance rubber instils confidence in traction for all weather conditions.

A 10% lower carbon footprint* compared to previous versions.

The new Ultraboost Light launches in a white colourway, featuring solar red and core black detailing. It is now available from adidas concept stores countrywide, online at adidas.co.za and on the adidas app.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of BOOST technology, adidas is also revealing a special edition version of the adidas Ultraboost Light with a dedicated colourway. The 10th-anniversary edition comes in a primarily black colourway, with black and yellow detailing. The same design that was found on the first-ever adidas silhouette with BOOST technology, the Energy Boost.

Adidas severs ties with Kanye West ending 7-year Yeezy partnership

    Lifestyle

    by Sarah Joseph

Adidas has severed ties with Kanye West following the rapper’s recent antisemitic marks which have sparked outrage.
The athletics brand, which has had an ongoing seven-year partnership with West, issued a statement announcing they would be ending their working relationship with the singer.
“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” the statement read. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
Earlier this month, West came under fire for sharing a Twitter post which said he was going “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE” to his 31.4 million Twitter followers. The post violated the terms and conditions of the social media platform and its policies against hate speech.
West’s partnership with Adidas had been put under review following his Yeezy fashion show which saw him and others wearing T-shirts that read “White Lives Matter” on the back – a clear message against the important Black Lives Matter movement which has gained traction in the last few years.
Many have spoken out against West, including his estranged wife Kim Kardashian.
“Hate speech is never Ok or excusable. I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end,” she said on social media.

According to CNBC, Change.org set up a petition against antisemitism urging the brand to put a full stop to ties with West and gathered 169,100 signatures earlier today.
The move came after several international brands such as Balenciaga, Gap and JPMorgan Chase cut ties with the rapper.

How To Get Out & #RunForTheOceans With adidas

As we approach World Oceans Day on Wednesday 8 June, adidas and its longstanding partner Parley for the Oceans is once again encouraging the global sporting community to turn activity into action and Run for the Oceans in 2022.
Locally, the campaign is being supported by the adidas family of athletes and brand partners including Siya Kolisi, Zinhle Ndawonde, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Gerda Steyn, Aphelele Fassi and Tayla Kavanagh.
For the first time, new activities have been introduced to the challenge, making this the most inclusive Run for the Oceans yet. People from all parts of the global sporting community are invited to hit the street, the tennis court, and the football field, and unite to help protect the oceans from plastic waste.
Featured: Track and field sprinter Shaunae Miller-Uibo
    The Change Made So Far
Launching between 23 May and 8 June, the event returns for its fifth year, with the ambition of mobilising a generation to help end plastic waste. Research shows that the world is at a tipping point, with it predicted that oceans will contain more plastic than fish by 2050**.
Since 2017, adidas and Parley have united over 8.2 million runners worldwide through Run for the Oceans, with more than 81.7 million kilometres being run in total.
Since the beginning of the partnership in 2015, adidas has made more than 50 million pairs of shoes with Parley Ocean Plastic and close to 18 million pairs in 2021 alone – these include plastic waste intercepted from beaches and coastal communities, preventing it from polluting the oceans.
We need action from everyone, everywhere to create true change and this year Run for the Oceans will expand to welcome in a wider range of activities – when we all come together, we can help make a world of difference.
    How To #RunForTheOceans
For every 10 minutes of running from select activities, such as running, tennis or football, recorded by participants via the adidas Runtastic app or Strava, Parley will clean up the equivalent weight of one plastic bottle from beaches, remote islands and coastlines before it reaches the ocean, up to 250,000kg.
To illustrate the devastation that plastic waste causes in our ocean, adidas South Africa partnered with Innovocean to bring the first anamorphic campaign of its kind to life, at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. When the artwork is viewed from a specific vantage point along with the warping and bending of the 3D elements, it lines up perfectly to create an optical illusion that can only be truly appreciated when viewed in person. To highlight the tangible difference that this initiative is making, the team came up with two contrasting creatives.
The result is a mesmerising transition from a highly polluted ocean to one that is beautifully clean. This highlights the commitment made by adidas and Parley – join the Run for the Oceans Challenge and for every ten minutes of exercise, adidas and Parley will remove the equivalent weight of one plastic bottle, preventing it from polluting the ocean.

Finally! Sports Bras That Don’t Feel Like Freaking Straitjackets

Recently, it’s been great to see active-wear brands starting to release more plus-size sports bras. But the options haven’t always been a bra buffet.
“One of my biggest frustrations with sports bras, especially for plus-size bodies, is that there’s a lot of structure to them,” says yoga teacher, author, influencer and body positivity advocate Jessamyn Stanley. “It’s always assumed that we have very large breasts and so there’ll be a lot of boning and structure… but for a yoga practitioner, it’s very nice to wear something that is soft and malleable and really just moves with your body.”
Your Sports Bra Should Match Your Sport
She’s on to something – and it’s not limited to the world of plus-size sports bras. Prof Joanna Wakefield-Scurr, a professor of Biomechanics and the biomechanics field leader and head of the Research Group in Breast Health at the University of Portsmouth, says there’s a reason why all sports bras aren’t created high impact. “In studio activities, for example, you might want more flexibility because of the activities that you’re performing. And lying on your back, you might not want a big hook-and-eye fastener – it might be uncomfortable. I really believe that there are different solutions for different activities and that hasn’t necessarily been articulated well in the sports bra market previously.”
    Sports Bras For Every Occasion
Prof Wakefield-Scurr and her team worked with adidas on their new Bra Collection, which features a whopping 43 different styles that are globally available in a range of sizes (including plus-size sports bras) across four different categories: Run, Train, Studio and Everyday. It includes bras for breasts of all sizes – and even ones that can be adjusted to fit breasts of different sizes. “What I would encourage women to look for – and there’re lots of examples of this in the adidas range – is bras with adjustability,” she says. “Personally, I would always select a bra that has adjustment in it – in the shoulder straps and in the underband.”
    Tried & Tested
As an adidas ambassador, Jessamyn got to meet with the design team working on their latest bra collection. “It was really cool to share all my favourite pieces and also pieces that I do not like and explain why,” she says. She was also one of the first women to get her hands on the new range. Her verdict? “They heard me,” she says. “It’s nice to have a bra that’s not so structured and the range has options for everybody – not just for any one, particular activity and not just for any one, particular body type. It’s really inclusive for all.” For Jessamyn, having access to a range of plus-size sports bras is empowering. “We’re conquering the world,” she says. “We’re getting to a place where health and wellness are not sequestered to just one type of person; where it’s something that all human beings can and should prioritise in their lives and it feels really cool to be a part of that evolution.”
