As we approach the year’s end, the prospect of a getaway or quality time with loved ones is on the horizon.
Delve into the upcoming UAE public holiday schedule for 2023, reflecting on the year’s past breaks that ranged from New Year’s Day on January 1 to the celebration of Eid Al-Fitr in April. The festive pause continued with Eid Al-Adha in June and a breather on Islamic New Year in July. Notably, we marked Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi (Prophet Muhammad’s [PBUH] birthday) on September 29.
But hold on, the holiday spirit isn’t over yet! Brace yourself for the final long weekend of the year, commencing with Commemoration Day (formerly known as Martyrs’ Day) on December 1, a Friday in 2023. Following right after, the UAE National Day celebrations unfold on December 2 and 3, conveniently extending the weekend to a delightful three days. Keep an eye out for the official announcements as the UAE gears up for the festivities during this time.

As we peer into the calendar of 2024, the first public holiday on January 1 promises a refreshing start to the New Year. With Monday hosting the celebration, it unfolds into yet another delightful three-day weekend.
Excitingly, rumors circulate about a potential nine-day break for Eid-Al-Fitr later in the year, adding an extra layer of anticipation for 2024. While awaiting official confirmation, stay tuned to stay informed with updates typically released a week or so before the holidays.

POV: You’re back from a six-day-long holiday to the office and the reality of a mundane week has just sunk in.
Last week, residents of the UAE celebrated a long weekend owing to the festivities of Eid Al-Adha. Some travelled while others stayed in, regardless, it was the perfect summer pause.
Coming back to work today also means getting back to the old routine, which after a relaxing break is slightly harder. But fret not, as you reminisce in gloom about the holidays that just passed, we’re about to replace it with excitement for the ones that are coming up.
While the majority of big breaks for 2023 are over, there are still a few prominent holidays remaining on the calendar for this year – take a look

    July 21 to July 23
The Hijri New Year falls in the month of July, opening the opportunity for another weekend. As per Ibrahim Al Jarwan, president of the Emirates Astronomy Society (ESA), the new Hijri year (Muharram 1) is supposed to be on Wednesday, July 19. Although, according to the official list of holidays unveiled by the UAE government, the same holiday will be celebrated on Friday, July 21, making it a three-day long weekend.
    September 29 to October 1
According to the official list of UAE holidays, the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) will be celebrated on September 29th this year, giving the residents another opportunity to enjoy a long relaxing weekend.
    December 1 to December 3
The first week of December marks two important days in UAE. On December 1, the nation observes Commemoration Day (previously known as Martyrs’ Day) and the following day is celebrated as UAE National Day. This will be the second last long weekend of the year.
    December 23 to December 25
A month of making merry, Christmas this year falls on a Monday. What’s better than a holiday on a Friday? A holiday on Monday. Marking the continuation of the previous weekend will give the 9-to-5 job workers another reason to rejoice.
