The history-making Emirati footballer on what it takes to break boundaries

IN PARTNERSHIP: Emirati female footballer Areej Al Hammadi is all about breaking boundaries.
She made history this year becoming a Guinness World Record Holder for the most football ‘hotstepping’ in one minute.

With options when she was growing up to play women’s football almost being non-existent, Al Hammadi definitely knows the key traits one should have on their journey to success.
Pursuing football as a career needed courage, and it wasn’t an easy step for Al Hammadi. However, it was an easy choice because it’s where her passion lies.

“I enjoy the freedom you have to express yourself by showing your skill with the ball at your feet, beating an opponent, controlling the ball, shooting for goal,” she tells Emirates Woman.
The 34-year-old’s success is the result of grit, determination, commitment and daily training.
“If you don’t train, you won’t succeed, it’s that simple,” she says. “Football requires a mix of talent, training, and commitment to be successful on the pitch.”
    [embedded content]
Al Hammadi likens this mixture to driving the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé – it’s like a loyal best friend every woman wants to have by her side to keep her strong.
“Nowadays, women are breaking records and setting the bar high in sports all around the world more than ever,” she says. “However, I think there are a lot of cultural barriers and predetermined gender roles in Arab society that we have to overcome.”
She believes the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé resembles what women in sport try to combine – preserving traditional values yet “continually demonstrating a drive to succeed, to step into the spotlight and become positive, successful role models on the sports field and in everyday life”.
The new Mercedes boasts a sporty and elegant design with a touch of luxury offering Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel and vertical fins in high-gloss chrome and, of course, the glamorous AMG logo.

With a stylish and striking coupé silhouette, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé strikes an ideal balance between design, sportiness, performance, and technology.

IN PARTNERSHIP: As the travel industry slowly but surely begins to recover, some countries are ready to welcome back tourists with open arms.
This includes one of our favourite holiday desintations, the Maldives.

The country reopened its borders to tourists on July 15. Since then, the country has ensured it’s taking every precaution necessary to ensure the wellbeing and safety of its nation and tourists who are visiting.
With regular flights from the UAE now running to the Maldives, it’s the perfect time to take a break in this luxurious oasis.

If you’re on the fence about whether to travel right now, the Maldives really is the ideal place to go. With the unique and signature “one-island-one-resort” concept which the country is known for, it’s the perfect place to go to ensure social distancing measures are met in order to enjoy an isolation vacation.
There are also many other aspects that are unique to the country. With that, here’s six bespoke experiences which you can do in the Maldives.
    Underwater dining

While we know the Maldives is filled with sandy beaches and home to the some of the bluest waters you’ll find around the globe, have you ever thought about what it’s like underwater? With their seas filled with a rich variety of fish and other sea creatures, experience a one-of-a-kind dining extravaganza underwater. There are many resorts that offer the experience including SEA at Anantara Kihavah; Subsix Underwater Restaurant at Niyama Private Islands; and Undersea Restaurant at Hurawalhi just to name a few.
    In a bubble

Perfect for those who are on a romantic break, enjoy a night sleeping under the stars right on the beach at the Finolhu Resort. Staying overnight in their bubble tents truly is a once in a lifetime experience and one that you’ll be sure to never forget.
    Movie night under the stars
While you can enjoy a movie night under the stars all around the world, doing it amongst the serenity and relaxing atmosphere of the Maldives is like no other. Enjoy the picturesque backdrop of the beaches, along with some of your favourite flicks.
    Over the water villas

This type of accommodation has become synonymous with the Maldives. Overwater villas are truly living at its finest. With resorts across the Maldives offering villas with their own pools, with uninhibited views of miles of sea, it’s the optimum opportunity to get away from it all.
A private flight over the islands

Whilst most of us have been on a plane at least once in a lifetime, taking a private flight over the Maldives will give you an experience you’ll remember for a lifetime. With expanding views of azure waters, sandy white beaches and the lush greenery of the islands, it’s something that is one-of-a-kind to the Maldives.
    The local culture

It’s easy to basque in the glory of the views, crystal clear waters and sandy white beaches, but to truly get the most out of your holiday, immerse yourself in the local culture. The Maldives is a melting pot of culture, influenced by Indian, Sri Lankan, Malaysia, Arabs and more, locals are warm and welcoming people, always wanting to ensure their visitors have the best experience. Whether it’s trying the local cuisine, experience local music and dance or simply spending time with Maldivians, it’s something to add to your list when visiting this glorious country.

The free event in Dubai you should add to your weekend plans

IN PARTNERSHIP: When it comes to weekends in Dubai, we’re never short of anything to do, but the sheer amount of things to do can sometimes make it difficult to make a concrete decision.
However, we may have found something that will tick all of the boxes. An interactive augmented reality (AR) event complete with art created by two local artists, as well as competitions and giveaways.

In collaboration with Ariel Middle East, the pieces of art have been created by local artists, Paul Bruwer and Dreams of Grandeur.
The one-of-a-kind Dubai-based experience will feature abstract art in AR form, bringing Ariel’s famous pods to life as ‘PodArt’.

Taking place from Thursday, October 22 to Saturday, October 24 from 1pm to 11pm at The Beach JBR and City Walk in Dubai, you’ll be welomed with a sea of colour in an immersive AR experience by using your smartphone or tablet.
Discussing the collaboration, artist Paul Bruwer praised Ariel for embracing colour in many different ways.
“There is a unique aspect to this particular collaboration,” Bruwer said. “Ariel is all about caring for colour in so many ways, and so do we as artists in our everyday professional lives.
“Colour literally is a part of us as we work, it comes home with us from ‘the office’ and we embrace this. Our stains of colour on our clothes are love letters to our past projects and therefore colour is a huge part of our everyday lives.”

The free Dubai-based event showcasing the art perfectly correlates with the bold power of Ariel Pods – the super-concentrated cleaning power and are designed for brightening bold colours.
It’s the ideal opportunity to see some new art installations, as well as discovering the innovative 3 in 1 benefits of Ariel Pods.
