25 Pieces of Breathable Workout Gear Because We Can’t With This Heat

Whether you’re generally an outdoor workout person or not, the past few months have probably forced you to be one. Gone are the days of freezing-cold gyms and cool towels being placed on our foreheads by a yoga instructor after a brutal yoga class—these days, our exercise options are limited, and usually, that means taking them outside.Lately in Chicago, it’s been 90-something degrees every day (with a typically high dose of humidity), which means we’re sweating through everything on our bodies quicker than we can complain about it being hot out. Thick leggings and workout tanks are no longer an option—we want our workouts to be as enjoyable as possible, and that means wearing lightweight, breathable clothes.
Ditch the days of finishing your workout with dripping wet clothes stuck to your body—these pieces are made for the heat.

The Simple Summer Fashion Staple You Didn’t Know You Needed

I was mindlessly clicking through Instagram stories a couple of months ago, when suddenly one slide got my attention. I clicked backwards to watch it again and turn my sound on (a true honor, if you ask me). A small fashion blogger that I follow was talking about the shirt she was wearing. It was everything you could ask for in a top: fitted but flattering, comfy but stylish, and most importantly, it was $8! Needless to say, I ordered two right away—and my obsession with this wardrobe staple was born. Allow me to introduce you to the perfect basic for summer 2020: the fitted ribbed tank. Not only is it my most-worn (by far) item of the season, I’m seeing them popping up everywhere from Instagram to Pinterest—and the ladies wearing them are always looking chic as hell. While it might seem like an obvious choice, trust me, the right basic tank is truly an outfit game-changer.
If you want to look chic while staying home and staying comfy this summer, this option is perfect. Dress it up with trendy jeans or denim shorts, or keep it casual with sweat shorts or leggings. A basic like this is so versatile, you’ll need one in every color.
Here are a few of our absolute favorite ribbed tanks (that you’ll want to add to your cart immediately):

    Slim Fit Tank Top

This is the tank that started it all. I have three, and I need many more. The cut is extremely flattering, and the material is comfortable and super high-quality. It comes in 10 colors and is only $8!

The Breezy Summer Dresses You’ll Want to Wear Constantly

A couple of weeks ago, I woke up and went to get dressed, only to realize that every single pair of my running shorts were dirty. These days it’s my instinct to throw on a pair of comfortable shorts and some kind of T-shirt or tank top, so I was left with two options for my work-from-home attire: jean shorts or a dress.I love jean shorts, but I wasn’t about to spend all day sitting at my desk in them, so a dress it was. I chose one of my light, whispy white numbers, and after basking in the joy of having no form of pants on and doing a little dance, I couldn’t help but think, Why didn’t I start doing this sooner? I felt like a million bucks throughout the day—rather than the $1 or $1.50 I’ve been feeling like in my loungewear lately—and the best part? At night, I still hadn’t changed, and I ended up falling asleep in it before I got around to putting my pj’s on. A piece of clothing that makes me feel like I’m living my normal life and that can suffice as literal pajamas? Let me toss all my other clothes out the window and hoard my closet with exclusively dresses for the rest of my days.
All dresses aren’t considered equal when it comes to comfort, but any lightweight, breezy dress is, dare I say, one of the most versatile things you can buy. Wear ’em on a date or for a walk around the block or hell, to work from home for the day, and you’ll be comfortable while resisting the urge to twirl around from dusk until dawn—and what other piece of clothing can you say that about? We rest our case. More

All the Under-$100 Items in My Cart RN

In a past life, an occasional day of shopping could bring exactly what the doctor ordered: a relaxing day of retail therapy that, if done right, could leave us with a new piece or two we couldn’t wait to wear. These days, retail therapy looks a little different, but the rush of UPS ringing our doorbells on a bleak afternoon can (almost) compare to the old days full of dressing rooms and in-person checkouts. Summer is in full swing, and summer clothes and accessories are still here begging us to put them on.
These 15 items are lurking in our editors’ carts waiting for us to press “check out,” and we have a feeling they’ll excite you just as much as they excite us—regardless of if places to wear them are in the picture for us just yet.

The #1 Beauty Product I Recommend This Summer

Have you ever seen a picture of a celebrity or a model on Instagram and thought, how in the world does their skin look like that? I mean, what the heck. It’s as if they drank double their recommended amount of water for the day, ate three balanced meals, got 10 hours of sleep, went for the perfect morning jog, and on top of it, slathered on a strong helping of some $250 moisturizer that promises to turn back time. How do us commoners ever dare to get the same glow?Well, ladies, gents, and anyone else, the answer is undoubted: cream cheek products. While you absolutely should drink your water, get some good sleep, and maybe eat a vegetable here and there, cream blushes, highlighters, and bronzers deliver the most natural, dewy canvas of any makeup product. And it’s without a doubt the best product you can apply to your face this summer. Because our entire staff is obsessed with this look, we pulled together the best of the best in each category, ranging from drugstore bargains to splurge-worthy favorites.

Swatches from left to right: Undone Beauty in “Blazen,” Glossier Cloud Paint in “Storm” and “Dusk,” Maybelline Cheek Heat in “Nude Burn,” Kosas in “8th Muse,” Fenty in “Bikini Martini,” Tower28 in “Golden Hour,” MAC Glow Play in “No Shame!” (I wasn’t kidding, I love cream blush.)

    Blush

    Danessa Myricks Beauty
    Vision Flush
This formula, made by the queen of glow herself Danessa Myricks, is a multi-purpose product that can be used on the eyes, lips, and cheeks—but of course, my go-to way will always be the cheeks. This comes in 12 shades (!!) that range from natural day-to-day colors to brights meant for blush draping (or on the days you’re totally standing out).

    Tower 28 Beauty
BeachPlease Tinted Lip + Cheek Balm
I was so ecstatic to try this after we interviewed Tower28’s founder Amy on The Everymom. This is—hands down—my favorite cream blush in my whole collection. It doesn’t dry down, so you’re left with super glowy cheeks that barely even need a highlighter. The shades are pretty pigmented, but they sheer out well with a brush, making them great for light and deep skin tones.

    MAC Cosmetics
    Glow Play Blush
While these aren’t a total cream or liquid like the rest, they have a bouncy texture that has to be applied with a sponge or your fingers instead of a brush. The shades are infused with the slightest bit of pearl, so they have a natural sheen makes them blend beautifully on the skin. They’ll become a favorite in your collection in no time.

    Bronzer

    Fenty Beauty
    Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer
Our fashion editor and writer Maddie loves makeup that looks like her skin—you know, so she can wear fun outfits that won’t compete with her style. She reviewed these cream bronzers (as well as the blushes above!) for The Everygirl and fell in love with them immediately. She finds them to be buildable, very blendable, and natural for daily wear.

    Highlighter

    Range Beauty
    Bali Full Body Glow
Range Beauty is a Black-owned makeup line that only recently came on our radar but is quickly filling up our wishlists. This glow oil is basically everything you need for dewy, summer skin. Mix it in with foundation, or apply it more concentrated with a brush on the high points of the face. Bonus: this is the perfect highlight to spread across your shoulders and collarbones this summer!

    Maya Chia
    The Highlight of the Day
Maya Chia is another new-to-us brand, but their products are climbing up in the ranks, including this highlighter. Available in four shades, this highlighter can be used as both a concentrated luminizer on the cheekbones and a primer to make you look like Edward Cullen himself (*me checking my “Midnight Sun” release countdown*). It’s also a clean line made specifically for acne-prone skin, containing only organic, wild-crafted (AKA ingredients that were harvested from their wild habitat), vegan ingredients.

    Dominique Cosmetics
    Skin Gloss
Dry skin readers, you’ve met your ultimate highlighter: this absolutely blinding skin gloss from Dominique Cosmetics (created by iconic beauty YouTuber, Christen Dominique!). Available in four shades, this highlighter is a cream shimmery formula that looks like a wet, dewy gloss on the cheekbones. Use it under or over foundation, when you’re wearing no makeup, or even as a shimmery eyeshadow. It will look just like you’re lightly sweating, but it doesn’t move around and get gross when you do actually sweat. Basically, this product is a dream for that summertime glow.

    Tower 28
    SuperDew Shimmer-Free Highlight Balm
Similar to the Dominique Cosmetics skin gloss, this gloss is completely translucent, making it truly look like your skin is just sweating. While I love wearing products like this on no-makeup days to just look like I’m naturally glowing, it’s great to add under or over a powder highlight to take away that powder-y finish and turn it into a cream formula. It’s absolutely genius. More

These Activewear Trends Are So Cute, They’ll Motivate You to Work Out At Home

I’ve always lacked motivation when it comes to working out. For example, I faked my period every other week to get out of gym class (thankfully, my PE teacher was an awkward older man who didn’t want to question that frequency). As an adult, I finally established a consistent exercise routine by going to workout classes (and have only faked my period a few times). There are exactly two reasons classes gave me the motivation to work out: 1. the chance to get out of the house (I work at home full-time), and 2. steep cancellation fees. You can imagine my panic when all studios and gyms started closing mid-March. What other reason is there to work out than $20 to cancel and lemon-lavender cloths!? There’s nothing that motivates me to do anything or go anywhere more than a really cute outfit, so I took the same approach. Sure we all should exercise for our health and wellbeing, but sometimes it’s just hard when a new episode of Riverdale is calling.
Whether you’re live streaming yoga, getting after it on the treadmill, or taking your dog for a long walk, the biggest activewear trends of 2020 are so cute you’ll want to throw them on, get moving, and maybe take a selfie or two. Happy shopping (I mean working out)!

    1. Matching sets

A matching set is the activewear equivalent of a crisp, ironed button-down: whenever you wear it, you just look like you have your sh*t together. A matching set of leggings and bra top in a cute print or a comfy fabric is as worthy of an #OOTD selfie as your favorite sundress or newest blouse. Plus, you’ll look damn good doing downward dog in all one color.

    2. One-shoulder top

The latest trend in sports bras and workout tops mirrors one of the biggest trends in your closet: one-shoulder is officially all the rage. If you’re anywhere above an AA cup, no worries. The latest designs are built for the best support, so your beloved breasts won’t slosh around during even the toughest HIIT series (did that sentence really gross anyone else out?).

    3. Pastel leggings

The weather is warm, which means it’s time to get brighter and bolder with the colors we wear. The most stylish trainers and active fashion girls are ditching their black, gray, and neutral leggings for more blues, purples, and pinks. Leggings have never been so pretty.

    4. Tie-Dye

Yes, the it-trend of the season (nay, year), has officially made its way into your activewear. Dye your own shorts or sweatshirts if you’re dying for a DIY, or get a matching set to knock out two trends at once. No matter what your preference, adding some tie-dye into your workout routine will power you through a long run or an online barre class.

    Electric & Rose
    Tularose Bra

2 colors available and 30% off!

    5. Ribbed fabrics

If there is such a thing as a “texture of the season,” ripped fabric is officially the MVP. Staying at home for months on end and living in loungewear challenged us to investigate the comfiest, coziest fabric available, and there’s something about a slightly ribbed design that takes the cake. If you’re looking for activewear that doubles as loungewear, or even sleepwear, look no further.

    6. Bright citrus colors

Every season has an it-color, and summer 2020’s is bright, sunny, and citrusy. Think: tangerine orange, grapefruit pink, or lemon yellow. Go bold in a pair of leggings, or keep it subtle with shoes and small details.

    Eleven By Venus Williams
    Hoodie

2 colors available, and 39% off!

    7. Printed bike shorts

You already know bike shorts are cool (Kim K has been wearing them for years), but plain black bike shorts are can be worn for brunch plans or a night out now. Make your workout looks a little more fun with a printed version that’s as comfortable as it is cute. They will be your go-to for every outdoor workout throughout the entire summer.

The Best Graphic Tees on the Internet

About once a month, something sparks in me that makes me decide that I want—nay, need—a new graphic tee. My collection is small but mighty, providing some of the most-worn things in my wardrobe, and sometimes, a cheeky new addition sounds just like what the doctor ordered. And every single time, the same thing happens: I […] More
