Exclusive: In the office with Joey Ghazal, Founder of Canary Club

    Emirates Man

How long have you worked in this space?
I have worked here every day since we opened last April. I rarely go to my administrative office and much prefer to work at my restaurants. Canary Club is so bright, fresh and comfortable that it makes for a very inspiring space to work. The lunch bowls are super healthy which is a big plus. We also just added a car wash for lunch time guests, so my car is always shiny.
Did you have a clear concept from the outset, and which key pieces are your favourite?
We did a lot of research into 70s West Coast Californian aesthetic when designing Canary Club and tried to stay as true as we could with the earth tone colour palette, shag carpets, terracotta tiles, rattan and wicker furniture, terrazzo and creamy popcorn paint. I have a great love for chandeliers and the lotus ones at Canary all lined up are definitely my favourite.
Have you custom-built any bespoke pieces?
Yes, all the booths, service stations and tables were bespoke. We even custom-made our own floor lamps from wooden cake standsand lamp shades made from agave fibres.
How do you think your interior reflects you/your brand?
The most important thing to me is that a place feels storied, timeless and authentic. Using natural materials that age well also make the space feel warm and lived in.
Describe your taste in three words.
    Classic, bold and playful.

Exclusive: In the Office with Founder of Goshá, Natalia Shustova

    Lifestyle

How long have you worked in this space?
We moved into our studio in October 2020.
Did you have a clear concept from the outset, and which key pieces are your favorite?
We were building our space as business was growing and shaping. My favourite part is the overall idea of “raw” … it’s a studio where artists create, and it is full of daily “debris” of what the process of creation usually brings
Have you custom-built any bespoke pieces?
Our entire studio is custom built from the kitchen/bar space to our rainbow set dried floral bar.
How do you think your interior reflects you and your brand?
Our studio is our “happy” place where we create. It is “free” from office or retail space rules, allowing us to have no boundaries in our work. I believe freedom of expression and creative freedom, originality is what Goshá really stands for.
Describe your taste in 3 words.
Well thought out, and unique, with a touch of color.

    Lifestyle

    by Dan Robinson

Wdeema Almheiri, Co-Founder of The Beauty Society invites us inside her tranquil and relaxing salon.
How long have you worked in this space?
My sisters and I have worked on this space for a year and a half starting April 2021. We later opened in July 2022.
Did you have a clear concept from the outset, and which key pieces are your favorite?
Yes, we’ve always wanted to create a spa like feel. When clients enter, we want them to feel luxurious coming in yet at the same time feel at home. My favorite key pieces would be our Society Dome and the Arched Mirror in The Hair Club.

Have you custom-built any bespoke pieces?
Everything in the salon is custom built, most of which was designed by Achromatic Design Studios.
How do you think your interior reflects you/ your brand?
I have an eye for the timeless qualities that make up a piece whether it be in fashion or furniture. The Beauty Society reflects this same quality in its interior.
Describe your taste in 3 words.
    Timeless, luxurious and sophisticated.

Nothing excites us more than aesthetic interiors and clean spaces.
One such home that stands out prominently is of entrepreneur Haya Jarrar. Known for her luxury fashion brand, Romani, she has made strides in every aspect of her career and she highlights this in every element of her home too.
From muted hues to carefully curated furniture pieces, every corner is tailored to pay homage to her keen eye as a curator.
For an exclusive peek, Emirates Woman shares all our most loved elements from Jarrar’s home.
How long have you lived in this space?
    For almost two years.
Did you have a clear concept from the outset, and which key pieces are your favourite?
I knew exactly what I wanted from the start… the coffee tables I designed. I feel they are more like pieces of art.
Have you custom-built any bespoke pieces?
Coffee tables, the dining table, some of the stools around the house, and my bed and dresser have all been custom-built.
How do you think your interior reflects you/your brand?
The colours of the house are very neutral yet the design of the house is very bold which mirrors me as a person. And just like Romani (my clothing brand) every piece in the house is memorable and fun. Describe your taste in three words. Raw, daring and controversial.

Exclusive: At home with… Founder of Klekktic, Heba El Habashy

    Lifestyle

Nothing excites us more than aesthetic interiors and clean spaces.
One place that stands out prominently is Heba El Habashy, founder of Klekktic, Dubai’s customizable home furniture store that makes aesthetic interior pieces available to all. With made-to-measure pieces, El Habashy is redefining the Middle Eastern interior space with quality pieces and has seamlessly incorporated the same in her home.
Every room is tailored to complement her sought-after interior choice from clean, wide spaces to carefully curated furniture pieces.
Emirates Woman shares all our most loved elements from El Habashy’s home for an exclusive peek.
How long have you lived/worked in this space?
I have lived in this space since March 2020 – we moved in exactly three or four days before the first covid lockdown was about to begin!
Did you have a clear concept from the outset, and which key pieces are your favourite?
Actually, this space is constantly changing – it’s almost like a living, breathing evolution of Klekktic. I get very bored with pieces quickly, so I change things around all the time, especially since it’s so easy to change the colours of elements or switch around fabrics. I also love to try out all the newest samples here and live with them before they launch online or in the showroom. Before this current setup, we had a different colour scheme with dark greens and more deep tones, and now we have brightened the space up for Dubai “summer” and in preparation for some new pieces we recently acquired on a trip in CPH.
Have you custom-built any bespoke pieces?
Everything in this house is bespoke, with the exception of a few lights and carpets. Fadi Sarridine, a genius, made the TV unit; the rest of the furniture is mainly from Klekktic, of course. The carpets and other vintage pieces are either passed down from family or purchased from antique stores. The art is the same or done by my husband, an awesome photographer. We also have a few pieces by Ali Shahabi, another favourite photographer, with very interesting pieces.
How do you think your interior reflects you/your brand?
I’m not a huge fan of minimal and monotone spaces. I find it a bit expected and boring. It’s always nice to add character to a space and make it unique to yourself by incorporating fun and happy colours and, if not colours, then at least interesting textures that aren’t traditionally paired together. Of course, I also appreciate art, great carpets, and other vintage and heirloom pieces. Describe your taste in three words. Eclectic, lighthearted, moody (constantly changing).
