The real reason why Meghan and Harry’s son Archie isn’t a prince
It’s been nearly five days since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey was aired.
Some shocking revelations were made during the tell-all, one of which pertained to the royal title of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
When he was born in May 2019, it was announced that he would not be receiving a royal title, something that many thought was down to the decision of Harry and Meghan.
However, in the interview, Meghan claimed ‘The Firm’ did not want Archie to receive a title.

“They were saying they didn’t want him to be a prince or a princess — not knowing what the gender would be — which would be different from protocol,” she said.
But the real reason why Archie doesn’t currently have a title is down to the fact that royal rules state that only grandchildren of the Queen automatically becomes a prince or a princess.
So a grandchild of a Monarch automatically becomes Prince or Princess.Archie is GREAT-grandchild of the Queen. Therefore Meghan is alleging that the Institution was trying to change the future rule when Charles becomes King-and Archie (and sister) are the Monarch’s grandchildren

Since Archie is a great-grandchild of the monarch, a title was not extended to him. However, for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, an exception was made years ago, perhaps due to the fact William is direct in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles.
It could be assumed, that once the Prince of Wales becomes king, Archie could very well become a prince, something that was noted by Meghan during the interview.
“When Harry’s dad becomes king, automatically Archie and our next baby would become prince or princess,” Meghan said.
One of the most bombshell revelations in the interview was when Meghan alleged there were conversations between Harry and other family members about how “dark” baby Archie’s skin would be when he’s born.
“In those months when I was pregnant all around the same time, we had in tandem the conversation he wouldn’t be given security, wouldn’t be given a title and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” Meghan said, which left interviewer Oprah shocked.
“What?” Oprah said with dismay over her face “And who is having that conversation with you?”
However, both Meghan and Harry refused to state who said this as “it would be very damaging to them.”
In response to the interview, Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of the Queen on Tuesday night stating she was “saddened” by the couple’s hardships, adding the racism allegations would be dealt with “privately”.
