9 of the best Padel courts in Dubai to smash your game

If there’s one sport that has grown in popularity over the years, it’s Padel Tennis with numerous courts around Dubai.
While there’s no denying that the sport is gaining momentum in the region, a few people what the game is actually about. Overall, the game is played with solid racquets and a depressurized tennis ball.
Now, there are several clubs and venues in Dubai that offer padel tennis facilities for players to enjoy. These clubs typically provide well-maintained courts, equipment rental, and coaching services.

The sport was first invented in 1969 by Enrique Corcuera, a Mexican businessman, at his home in Acapulco, Mexico. As he didn’t have enough space for a full-sized tennis court, so he improvised by creating a smaller court with walls around it. He initially called it “Paddle Corcuera.” The game’s walls were used for rebounds, adding a squash-like element to the sport.
Eventually, the sport gained global recognition. During the 1990s, padel began to spread to other countries, including France, Italy, and Portugal, while its popularity surged in Spain, which today is the global hub of the sport. The Padel Pro Tour (PPT) was established in Spain in 2005, attracting international attention, with some of the best players coming from Spain and Argentina.
Today, padel is one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide, with millions of players globally. It’s popular because it’s easier to play than tennis (since the court is smaller and the technique less demanding) and is highly social, usually played in doubles format. The sport’s rise is especially prominent in countries like Sweden and the UAE, and it has become a popular recreational activity in many urban areas worldwide.
The sport continues to evolve, with an ever-expanding global community of players, including many high-profile athletes and celebrities joining in on the action. so, if you’re thinking of giving this new buzzword in the sporting community a shot, we’re here to help.

The founder of CM Comms shares how to stay resilient in the PR industry

Christina Maroudias, founder of CM Comms Middle East discusses celbrating five years of entreprenurship and what it takes to build a bespoke brand in the PR industry.
What inspired you to found CM Communications Middle East?
Being able to work on projects I am passionate and excited about truly brings me so much joy. It’s something I never take for granted. I have always wanted to work for myself, and when we need to make a big decision in life, I believe the universe will push us towards it in its own ways. When I started CM Comms, I wanted to develop consistent, curated communications for luxury brands, and become someone within the industry that you can call for PR advice, someone that you can trust.
Every campaign is so different, and I love helping people work out the best approach and strategy for them and their projects. Our work is centered around raising awareness for people, places and concepts that come together to form a balanced lifestyle. Health and happiness are at the core of everything we do – whether it is travel and inspiration, nourishment, movement, or mindfulness. The secret to happiness truly is found in our daily routines, so we aim to highlight concepts that can create a beautiful way of living. Communications that enhance your health, wellness and happiness.
What are some of the key events that CM Communications has worked on?
I am so grateful and feel so proud to have worked on so many fun and exciting projects. We represent Roxie Nafousi, a wonderful and inspiring author and motivational speaker who has helped me immensely on my own personal manifesting journey. Chef Izu Ani, who has a philosophical approach to dining, and has taught me so much about food, life, how to be present and live life fully. Most recently, we opened Mimi MeiFair and Jamavar in Downtown Dubai, an exquisite collection of Michelin-Star restaurants from Mayfair, with Samyukta Nair, who teaches me about the art of hospitality, joy and friendship. This season, we are also working with ZUMA on their beautiful winter pop-up experience in the Ras Al-Khaimah desert, which is a dream come true. For so many years, I wanted to work in hospitality and represent luxury hotels, and it is so exciting to achieve something you have put so much effort into.
I am beyond grateful to work with the Four Seasons and help raise awareness for their beautiful brand and incredible concepts. In November, we celebrated ten years of Four Seasons Dubai at Jumeirah Beach with a beautiful floral installation by Jeff Leatham, and over the summer we had so much fun working with Pavyllon in the Four Seasons Park Lane, an incredible restaurant and terrace by renowned Chef Yannick Alleno. One of my favourite things about my job is seeing the growth and evolution of brands and concepts that we have worked with for a number of years. It fills me with so much joy to see GAIA and Scalini exceed and expand internationally, as I have worked with both restaurants since they opened in Dubai and they hold such a special place in my heart. It really is such an honour to feel included as part of the team – the best partnerships arebased on friendship and collaboration.

What advice would you give to women who wish to launch their own brand?
Listen to your intuition. Sometimes it takes a while, but we all have an inner voice and it just gets louder until we do what we know is right. Understanding what we want, and most importantly, why we want it, can take a few attempts (and many, many mistakes in my case), but starting with a clear, simple goal will be so helpful. Ask yourself what you want to do, and then keep asking yourself why you want to do it until the answers reveal themselves. Sometimes a good friend will help you with this, and sometimes the answers will come after a yoga class, in the shower, during a walk, but mostly when your mind is calm.
I am a huge fan of small incremental upgrades and changes towards our goals – I really believe success is found in the smaller moments. How we spend our time, and the actions we take each day.  If we break things down to the most simple, managable next step, we will achieve it – it’s inevitable. Also, we have to celebrate our wins! When you achieve one of your goals, give yourself a little treat. Buy yourself a cute, symbolic gift or take yourself somewhere you have always wanted to go. It will be a gift of gratitude to yourself and a reminder that you can do the things you set your mind to.
How has the PR industry evolved since you’ve launched?
I studied PR and have worked in the industry my entire career, and I still find it fascinating every day. To me, PR is more about psychology and connection than anything else. It is finding, and often creating the “tipping point”, of what becomes interesting to others. It is so important, yet so subtle. At its core, PR is about relating to people, understanding what they want and need, and then translating our messaging into the language that our audience understands best.
Those “translations” can be through events, activation or across traditional media, interviews, press releases, social media, by working with key opinion leaders, personalities and so much more. It really depends on what we want to say and who we want to listen to us. The way that we absorb media and information will continue to evolve, which means that the possibilities and opportunities are really quite endless. Owning a PR agency comes with challenges.
How do you foster creativity and collaboration within your team?
I am so beyond lucky to work with such an incredible, talented team. We all actually just like each other and support one another which is so rare. I aim to create an environment where everyone feels heard, supported and appreciated, and I am so grateful to work with people that make me feel that way too. Our work is fast paced and often quite a lot of pressure, but when you take a moment to understand why, you realise that it is important to people because they care about what they are putting out into the world.
It is quite an honour to be able to be a part of that and to help our clients achieve their goals and dreams. I think honesty is so important, and I am quite open with how I feel about things which is not always so common in my role. I think being vulnerable, kind and transparent allows others to feel safe to open up and be themselves too.

What makes your agency stand out in the industry?
I consciously curate our client portfolio to ensure that everyone we work with aligns with our values to create a balanced approach. We focus on luxury because their products and services are crafted with time and energy, there is a depth and beauty to their story which is so interesting to talk about. We put our energy into quality over quantity, as I believe that creates the best opportunities for exposure, and allows us to really dive deeply into the story behind each concept and campaign. Quiet luxury is something that we naturally navigate towards, I prefer an understated approach that truly showcases the brand, personality or product itself.
I like to maintain humility and transparency across everything we do, which means that we don’t represent brands that we don’t believe in or promote things that wouldn’t fit into a healthy, happy lifestyle. Those are my non-negotiables, and I sometimes struggle to explain that to people driven by growth, numbers or renumeration, but I would much rather be selective so that we have the ability to work on projects and with people that I adore.
What’s next in the pipeline for the brand?
I would love to work on curated campaigns for global luxury brands and hotels, becoming an extension of their in-house team and incorporating the elements of a happy, healthy lifestyle across all of our campaigns. Moving forwards, I aim to focus on highlighting international concepts to a regional audience, and working with people and on projects that inspire and excite me, and everyone else. One of my biggest ambitions is to build and sustain a really happy team, and a balanced, flexible schedule that allows everyone the space to be creative and feel passionate about their work.
The agency celebrates five years this January. What are you most proud of?
Honestly, I am most proud of staying true to myself in such a competitive industry. I genuinely really appreciate all of the guidance and advice I receive, but the past five years have taught me to listen to that voice inside, trust myself and do what I know is right. Acting in alignment with ourselves and our values truly is a form of self-care and selflove, even when it doesn’t make sense to others. We have to ignore the outside noise a lot of the time, which is fairly terrifying, but understanding what we want and need gives us the ability to find and connect with people that truly align with us.
How do you think women can support each other to achieve better quality results?
When we have a mindset of abundance and gratitude, and believe that there are more than enough opportunities for us all, it naturally allows us to encourage and empower each other. As women, we listen, communicate and support each other so well, and we have the ability to understand and connect with one another. One of my closest friends recently mentioned how rich we are in health and friendship and it is something I now remind myself of every day – I am so so grateful to have such a supportive group of friends and to be surrounded by people that make me laugh, listen to me when I’m over thinking and encourage me when I’m not feeling my best. I really hope I make them feel the same way, it’s one of my biggest life goals to be supportive and nurturing to those around me.
This is The Optimism Issue – how do you stay positive during testing times?
In the most testing of times I actually write a gratitude list for the issue itself or the things I am anxious about. It takes a little time, but it is such a healing process. It helps me realise that every issue we face is curriculum for our personal growth and expansion, and the things that test us are really our next steps towards our goals – even if they don’t look that way at the time. I love a little routine and the daily rituals that ground me and make me feel content, having a little morning walk, listening to podcasts, yoga, running at sunset, going to Pilates, and phone calls or voice notes with my mum, sister and best friends.
When I need an extra boost of motivation, I like to create vision boards to manifest the life I would like to build and things I would love to experience. I pop onto Pinterest for visual inspiration, and have a little think about the next steps I need to take in order to achieve it. The only difference between us and the people living the life we want, is that those people actually planned it. We must take a moment to appreciate it all, the good and the not so good, and have a little laugh along the way.

Dubai’s leading mental health therapist shares how to protect your peace in 2025

How Dr. Saliha Afridi, Founder and Clinical Pyschologist at LightHouse Arabia, focuses on making a positive impact on the mental health of her community.
    Talk us through your background?
I am a clinical psychologist and the founder of the LightHouse Arabia which is a community mental health center in Dubai since 2011. Over the past decade, my focus has notably shifted towards adult development and navigating the personal and processional transitions of midlife. I specialised in workplace and executive mental health, and also deep-seated expertise in parenting strategies and dynamics. My transition from the US to the UAE over 15 years ago marked the beginning of a dedicated effort to significantly enhance the mental health landscape of the region. In 2011, I founded The LightHouse Arabia, and under my leadership, it has evolved into one of the most influential mental health centers in the UAE and the region. Since its inception, I, alongside my dedicated team, has devoted thousands of volunteer hours to community education, focusing on the cultivation of mental health and wellness best practices.
Can optimism influence physical health, and if so, how is it connected to mental well-being?
Absolutely. Our mind and body are connected. Our thoughts can even impact something as biological as our gut microbiome, which is deeply connected to our mental health. Research has consistently shown that optimism can lower stress levels, decrease the cortisol levels in your body, and thus, reduce inflammation in the body. With a reduction of cortisol and inflammation you are impacting nearly every organ and system in the body such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, strengthening the immune system, which can even lead to increased longevity. A positive mental outlook also encourages healthier habits, such as exercise, better nutrition, and improved sleep, all of which impact physical health.
What role does therapy or professional support play in helping someone develop optimism?
Working with a psychologist can be very helpful to develop optimism for a few reasons. Sometimes we don’t even know we are being negative and having our thoughts and feelings reflected back to us can make us more aware of how deep the beliefs that fuel the negativity might be. Learning skills such as techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy which makes you aware of your mental models, cognitive distortions as well as teach you skills of reframing, thought journaling, and thought stopping will help you challenge your negative thoughts and develop healthier more balanced ways of approaching life.
Therapy also provides tools to process traumas and other difficult life experiences, which can help heal parts of you that might be holding on to a negative outlook as a way of surviving. By working through these experiences, therapy allows you to release old patterns of thinking and coping that may no longer serve you. It helps you identify the origins of these beliefs, reframe your perspective, and build healthier, more adaptive ways of approaching life’s challenges.
Can social connections and community engagement enhance a strong mindset?
Research shows that there is a significant relationship between loneliness and pessimism, with loneliness often leading to a more negative outlook on life. A study involving 260 undergraduate students found that higher levels of loneliness were associated with increased pessimism and decreased optimism. Social connections help us feel more well resourced and that helps us feel stronger. Social connections help us feel more well-resourced, both emotionally and mentally, which in turn strengthens our ability to cope with challenges. When we feel connected, supported, and understood, we are reminded that we don’t have to face life’s difficulties alone. This sense of belonging and shared experience provides a buffer against stress and reduces feelings of isolation. Simply put, relationships serve as a source of strength, helping us feel grounded, supported, and better equipped to navigate life.
With the fast-paced culture, are there specific tools or techniques to manage stress, anxiety, or burnout effectively?
One of the most important things we can do to manage stress, anxiety, and burnout is to remember that we are human. There is no quick fix. We live in a world that is fast-paced and machine-like, but we are not machines. Our human bodies have evolved over thousands of years to thrive through simple, natural rhythms: moving, eating, sleeping, connecting. Our internal clock was once set by the sun, not a screen, and we existed in constant relationship with nature and our tribe/community. When you feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or unwell, instead of looking for quick fixes, pause and ask yourself:
How can I return to my natural rhythms? Are you getting enough sleep to restore your body and mind?  moving in ways that release tension and energy? Are you eating nourishing foods that fuel and heal? Are you connecting with others, or do you feel isolated? When was the last time you stepped outside, grounded yourself in nature, and slowed your pace? Our modern world may demand speed, but our bodies and souls still crave what we have always needed: rest, movement, nourishment, and connection. By returning to these essentials, we honour our humanity and reclaim balance, calm, and well-being.
How can people set boundaries to protect their mental health without feeling guilty?
It would be important for people to understand why they feel guilty when they set boundaries. It is too easy to say “just say no” or “have good boundaries” but there is a lot of cultural conditioning, especially for women, who are taught to say yes, extend themselves, sacrifice for the sake of relationship and be complaint. Saying no could go against everything you have been taught about what it means to be good and kind and can feel like a betrayal of this identity. For people who value relationships, this can trigger deep-seated fears of abandonment or not being loved. So before you say no, I would encourage people to reflect on: What does saying no mean to me? Identify the fears or beliefs that surface when you set boundaries.
Also, explore where these beliefs come from – family messages, cultural norms, or personal experiences. If you are just saying yes without consideration for yourself then you will eventually burnout or engage in unhealthy relational patterns. Boundaries are a form of self-respect and self-consideration. While, there will also be times where you will sacrifice your own needs to show up for a relationship and if that is done consciously you won’t be resentful than if you are doing it unconsciously.

How can technology, like apps or virtual therapy, help improve mental health access?
I am personally a big fan of in-person, nervous system to nervous system interaction in therapy, and using virtual apps and virtual therapy as an adjunct for inperson therapy. I think apps and virtual therapy are a great way to increase accessibility and the apps are a great way to provide out of the therapy hour support. Virtual therapy has made support more accessible for individuals who face barriers such as distance, stigma, or time constraints.
Are there specific habits or routines that foster a positive mental attitude?
I think it is really important to differentiate between positivity and realistic optimism. Realistic optimism is a well-researched concept in psychology and refers to the ability to maintain a hopeful and positive outlook while being grounded in reality. It is often seen as a middle ground between blind optimism (unrealistic positivity that ignores challenges) and pessimism (a focus on negative outcomes).I think positivity when disconnected from reality can be naïve and detrimental to people’s well-being. But doing a proper assessment of the situation, seeing the pros and cons, being aware of the challenges and obstacles paired with proactive planning in how you will address it is important. Realistic optimists acknowledge problems but believe in their ability to overcome them through action, effort, and adaptability. There are some specific habits one can engage in to foster the PMA:  Do a gratitude journal and let your heart fill with gratitude. Gratitude is a great way to fill your cup and the best part is that you don’t have to do anything other than name the things you appreciate about your life.
Memorise ‘wow’ moments throughout the day. There are many times a day where we experience something that is ‘wow’ or comforting or soothing. Take 20 seconds and memorise that moment. The thing with our minds is that its teflon for positive moments and velcro for negative moments – that’s because remembering the negative things is linked to our survival. So we really have to go out of our way to remember the wow moments throughout the day. For example, if the weather is amazing, spend 20 seconds, taking in five deep breaths to remember how good it feels to have such amazing weather. Don’t compromise on the non-negotiables when it comes to caring for your body – sleep, nourishment, and movement. It won’t matter how positive you are if you are under rested, undernourished, and not getting sufficient movement it will take a whole lot more energy and willpower to stay positive.
This is The Optimism Issue – how do you stay positive during testing times?
For me, faith is central to how I navigate life and faith in inherently optimistic- faith that everything that is happening to me is for me. I do not deny the feelings that come with difficult experiences – the grief or sadness, overwhelm – but all the while there is something inside of me that holds me up and says to trust in the greater process, even when this moment or the path ahead is difficult. This perspective allows me to face life’s uncertainties with openness, knowing that every moment is part of a larger journey toward becoming more of me, more whole, and more true to myself. Faith doesn’t remove the discomfort, but it reminds me that the discomfort is temporary and transformative, like a refining fire. It’s a way of anchoring myself to the belief that when difficulties arise something more is being asked of me.
