Her Highness Sheikha Sana Al Maktoum is continuing to give back to the local community.
In her latest public outing, Sheikha Sana joined the ‘Discussions Across Generations’ event with the Ministry of Community Development.
Her Highness was seen at Ski Dubai, located in the Mall of the Emirates, where she spent time with elder members of the Dubai community.
A series of photos were posted on the UAE royal’s official Instagram account, where she shared her “happiness and gratitude” to be able to attend the event.
“I really enjoyed learning and interacting with the elder members of our community at Ski Dubai with the penguins as well as listening to their perspectives on technology and how it can enhance their lives for the better,” she said.

Her Highness also praised the work of Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development; Hessa Tahlak, Assistant Undersecretary of Social Development; and Alia Al Joker, Director of Family Development Department, for their efforts “towards building a better community for us all and for their contributions to these wonderful initiatives”.
Just last month, Her Highness hosted a group of orphans and underprivileged children on a special outing in Dubai.
In collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent, Sheikha Sana visited The Green Planet, the only indoor rainforest in the emirate, where she accompanied the children on this unique experience.
Sheikha Sana previously shared with Emirates Woman, during our April 2021 cover shoot with Her Highness, her desire to give back to those less fortunate.
“I was blessed to be born in the UAE, a safe haven to people from various backgrounds, where women are respected and treated equally, but I know that there are many who are not as blessed,” she said. “I hope to help change this by partnering with charities supporting the education of young children and women’s empowerment.”

When it comes to cosmetic procedures, you always need to ensure you’re visiting a licensed professional.
This is something which is closely monitored in Dubai as a man was recently arrested for allegedly illegally administering Botox injections without a license.
Per The National, the individual reportedly worked for a medical consultancy company and was providing unlicensed cosmetic treatments in Deira.
Haifa Al Marzouqi, a senior prosecutor at Deira Prosecution, explained the police had worked in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority to carry out a sting operation on the man.
Al Marzouqi explained a female officer posed as a potential customer for the man, who had told her she needed Botox injections in her forehead.
“He examined the woman’s face and told her that she needed a Botox injection in the forehead and asked for Dh4,700 for his service,” Al Marzouqi said.
Just as the individual was set to anaesthetise the woman’s face, police intervened.
“The defendant was endangering the lives of others by practising cosmetic surgery without a licence and offering consultations, as well as obtaining medical tools and injections without permission,” Al Marzouqi added.

    Lifestyle

    by Sarah Joseph

Miss India World 2022 has officially been crowned.
Sini Shetty took home the title over the weekend at the competition which took place in the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
So, who exactly is Sini Shetty?
The 21-year-old was born in Mumbai and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance and is currently pursuing her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Originally hailing from Karnataka, the newly crowned Miss India World is a trained classical Indian dancer who has been raised with a passion for her artistic and academic endeavours.

While Shetty was crowned the winner out of all the finalists for Miss India World, it was a rigorous competition with all contestants going through months of training, learning from the best in the industry.
Several leading Bollywood celebrities and fashion designers including Neha Dhupia, Dino Morea and Malaika Arora were present as judges for the competition. Neha Dhupia, a previous Miss India World winner herself, was also present at the event as both a mentor and a guide for women who participated in fulfilling their dreams.
Auditions for the positions took place via a virtual format to attract nationwide talent and find the most deserving after shortlisting a total of 31 state winners. The tedious scouting process gives two other talented individuals including Rajasthan’s Rubal Shekhawat the first runner-up title and Shinata Chauhan from Uttar Pradesh the second runner-up title.

The stellar evening consisted of breathtaking performances from remarkable talent in the industry such as Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon, dancer Lauren Gottlieb and more.
The pageant was established 70 years ago and a few Miss India winners have gone on to win the much-coveted title of Miss World – Aishwarya Rai in 1994, Priyanka Chopra in 2000 and Manushi Chillar in 2017.

The UAE continues to be a hub for budding artists, particularly in the capital.
Adding to Abu Dhabi’s burgeoning art scene, a never-before-seen exhibition is set to open at the NYUAD Gallery later this year and is set to document modern art movements in the Arabian Peninsula.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming event.

The exhibition itself will be the first historical survey of its kind to display modern movements and visual arts across the Arabian Peninsula.
Dr Stoby herself explains the showcase aims to change the narrative surrounding the region. “This project responds to emerging debates around recentering art narratives, toward a more nuanced and inclusive appreciation of global art histories,” she says.
    The curator

Several unique artworks have been carefully hand-selected by Dr. Stoby who also helped curate the inaugural Oman Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
Dr. Stoby is using her PhD research on the region’s ‘pre-boom era’, focusing on when oil was discovered and how artistsm as well as the people of the region, adapted to the life-changing moment of the country.

Dubai-based Lindsay Lohan reveals she’s secretly wed fiancé Bader Shammas

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris

Dubai-based Lindsay Lohan is officially a married woman!
The actress revealed she secretly wed her fiancé Bader Shammas in an Instagram post to mark her 36th birthday, where she referred to the financier as her “husband”.
Lohan shared a photo with her now-husband, saying she was the “luckiest woman in the world”. The star also appeared to be wearing a diamond wedding band paired with her engagement ring.
“You found me and knew that I wanted to find happiness and grace, all at the same time,” she said in the caption. “I am stunned that you are my husband. My life and my everything. Every woman should feel like this everyday.”

Lohan and Shammas announced their engagement back in November 2021 after reportedly dating for around two years.
Lohan, who has been in the spotlight since she was 11, has been very private about her relationship and not much is known about her fiance except he is also based in Dubai working as a financier. Shammas works as an Assistant Vice President at Credit Suisse, a global investment bank and financial services firm.
The actress relocated to Dubai back in 2014. Lohan, who is a former Emirates Woman cover star, previously opened up about her move to the UAE.

“Moving here was a fresh start,” she told EW. “You hear more about real current events rather than celebrity gossip, which I really appreciate.”
She also added one of the main reasons she moved to Dubai was due to the “lack of paparazzi”.
The 36-year-old recently made a return to the spotlight and acting, as she’s currently filming a new project for Netflix, which is set to be released this year.

Are meal plans worth it? We put one Dubai-based one to the test…

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris
    July 4, 2022

Now the world is back in full swing post-pandemic, schedules are becoming busier than ever.
This is why many seem to be opting for weekly meal plans for convenience, health and wellbeing.
With a whole host of options for meal plans in the UAE, we decided to put one to the test.
    The Plan
Honest Badger, founded by Yasmin Hadi in 2020, has four different meal plans UAE residents can choose from: vegan; active vegan; protein and active protein, with meals starting from Dhs115 per day. I opted for the protein plan with a total calorie count of 1500 per day. The plan includes lean meats, vegetables, legumes and pulses.
A bag of your breakfast, lunch and dinner is delivered daily to your door early in the morning, five days a week. It includes your three meals, as well as a morning juice, two snacks and a dessert.

    The Pros
The main pro of this meal plan (and I’m sure any meal plan) is the convenience. I live a very busy lifestyle, as many do in Dubai, and not having to think about what I’m going to have to eat each day was a huge time saver. Also, admittedly, I’m not a cook and using a meal really helped kickstart my eating habits and staying away from Deliveroo and other meal delivery apps.
Generally, the meals were tasty and suited my appetite. The portion sizes were decent and I wasn’t left feeling hungry.
    The Cons
While I did like what the menus offered, there isn’t really much option to customise it. The team are able to cater to different dietary needs, but you’re not given a choice on what you’d like to have. This is, however, understandable given that it’s a small business, it’s just something worth noting.
In addition, I found that while it was super convenient not to have to think about my daily meals, my job often takes me out and about during the week and I found sometimes I wouldn’t be eating all of the meals given to me. I tried to save some of them for other days, but given changing of schedules last-minute sometimes (too late to postpone days), it was difficult to decipher when I’d be able to eat the missed meals, which meant some of them went to waste.

    The Verdict
For me, what Honest Badger had to offer wasn’t quite the right fit long-term. However, overall I have to say I would recommend meal plans to kickstart your health journey. It takes the headache out of meal planning for yourself, especially if you’re always on the go, which most people in Dubai are!

Here’s why Uber prices now cost more in the UAE

    Lifestyle

    by Sarah Joseph

If you’re thinking to skip plans, this might be a good enough reason.
The ride-hailing company, Uber Technologies Inc. will now charge as much as 11 percent more for certain trips as informed to their customers recently.
The news regarding the second Uber hike was released post the announcement of petrol prices increasing in the UAE.
According to the revised price hike Popular Comfort cars are Dhs3.13 per km fromDhs2.9, Black cars are Dhs3.67 which was previously Dhs3.4 and XL vehicles are Dhs3.73 per km, jumping from Dhs3.46.
Nevertheless, Uber said, “The revised fare will help drives to continue to have sustainable earnings and continue to ensure riders can continue to travel the city comfortably.
Since January 2022, the UAE has seen a hike in fuel prices by 56 percent due to an increase in global crude oil prices, thereby leading to this major hike for UAE residents and tourists.
Per Emarat, an official announcement was made via their Twitter feed regarding the July 2022 fuel prices.

    — Emarat (امارات) (@EmaratOfficial) June 30, 2022

For the first time, UAE petrol prices have crossed the four dirham mark since the country’s fuel price deregulation in August 2015.
Despite the prices being relatively higher than they were previously, according to Global Petrol Prices, the current price is well below the average globally. Currently being $1.47 (Dhs5.40) in the UAE, petrol prices on average in the US cost $1.37 (Dhs5.03) and in the UK cost $2.32 (Dhs 8.52).
When it comes to oil production, Saudi Arabia continues to be the biggest OPEC producer, with UAE being the third followed by Kuwait.
