YSL Beauty has partnered with the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children in order to tackle the global issue of domestic violence, specifically intimate partner violence (IPV).
The violence is highlighted in the form of physical, sexual, financial and emotional abuse by a partner with signs such as intimidation tactics, manipulation and even dominating you to keep you away from friends and family.

Under the Abuse Is Not Love initiative, four pillars are targeted in order to support women in need.
The programme offers support and safe spaces to vulnerable women while providing resources for survivors of violence to find a job. Vocational training will be offered to equip women, domestic violence survivors, to enter the workforce, while female makeup artists also offer these women a chance to enhance their skills in the beauty industry.

Another key aim of the Abuse Is Not Love programme is to educate over two million people on the signs of IPV by the year 2030. This is set to be done globally, with the programme partnering with local organisations, like here in Dubai, to raise awareness. Similarly, the programme is set to fund research into IPV in academic institutions in order to prevent such violence from occurring.
Stephan Bezy, YSL Beauty’s International General Manager, discussed the initiative explaining that the brand wanted to support to help take “concrete” action against IPV.
“As we began to engage, we really wanted to take action in a concrete, immediate and significant way,” he said.  “Besides supporting our partners, what we can do, is offer our voice and our large and international audience to do our small part in helping to prevent intimate partner violence.
“We will use our voice to amplify the actions of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children so that more people are aware of their services.”
Sheikha Saeed Al Mansouri, Acting Director-General of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, highlighted how the organisation continues to shine a light on women’s issues.
“We aim to highlight on the importance of women’s issues and how to interact with them, and also to educate employees about the best ways to protect and support women around them,” she said.

The UAE’s highest restaurant, which boasts enchanting views of Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, 1484 by Puro, has been temporarily shut amidst COVID-19 restrictions in the emirate.
“In light of the strengthened restrictions put in place to ensure the wellbeing of all visitors to Ras Al Khaimah, and in our ongoing pursuit to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience, we have decided to temporarily close 1484 By Puro on Jebel Jais,” the restaurant said in a statement, according to the Khaleej Times.

The restaurant will use this time to refurbish and upgrade its offering at the venue and will be ready once it’s allowed to reopen.

Positioned at the highest peak in the UAE, the restaurant featured a sleek modern interior overlooking the Hajar mountains with a delicious à la carte menu, making it the perfect stop after a trek, a zip-lining adventure or simply to even solely go and experience.
As an alternative to adapt to the current situation, the site will offer an outdoor pop-up dining experience in another chic location making it ideal for social distancing until the new expansive space has been finalised to re-welcome guests.

She may be one of the most successful supermodels in the world, but even Kendall Jenner has insecurities.
Jenner recently sparked quite the conversation after footage emerged of her taking part in Kim Kardashian’s latest Skims campaign alongside younger sister Kylie Jenner.

With many commenting on how incredible the 25-year-old looked, Jenner took the opportunity to highlight that she also has “bad days too”.
“I am an extremely lucky girl. appreciative of all that I have,” she said in response to a fan on Twitter. “But I want you to know I have bad days too and that I hear you! you are beautiful just the way you are!!! It’s not always as perfect as it may seem.”

Jenner has previously been open about her body insecurities, opening up in an interview with The Telegraph, back in 2019, about comparing herself with sisters who are curvier than she is.
However, despite her struggles, the model admitted she has come to accept herself, embracing how she is unique. “I like that I have a different vibe to everyone,” she said. “I like to do different things. And that’s okay.”

The new app, Clubhouse, has quickly amassed a growing interest by giving its audience a voice of their own.
What makes this app stand out from the rest is its unique nature of having an invite-only platform, much like real-world elitism in a virtual space. Each room is just like a conference call with members talking. To get on the app, an existing member on the platform has two invites available to give you access to set up an account, leading you to the sign-up page. From this, Clubhouse now has around two million users on it with members such as Drake, Mark Zuckerberg, Oprah and Serena Williams already on the app.
There’s even some UAE-based personalities such as Mona Kattan and Rania Fawaz are also on the app. Saudi Arabian designer Arwa Al Banawi are also on this new age platform, where they can listen in to conversations, interviews and discussions.
The app is currently available only on the App Store for iPhone

DIFC hotspot Gaia is expanding internationally this year, but its also expanding its Dubai HQ space.
The homegrown Greek-Mediterranean restaurant – which is one of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai’s favourite places to go – has opened up its new terrace.

Expanding into Gate Village, patrons are now able to embrace the atmosphere of DIFC combined with Gaia’s ambience, alongside impeccable cuisine.
Chef Izu Ani, the concept creator of Gaia, notes how the new terrace encompasses Greek culture, encouraging guests to feel more connected to their surroundings and environment.

“When we are at one with nature, and appreciate the beauty of our environment, we feel more connected to others and to ourselves,” he says. “In Greece, when you are walking through the villages, you can see tables sprawled out across the patio, filled with people sharing meals, laughing and enjoying.
“We wanted to create this in DIFC, a community that brings people together and makes everyone feel at home.”
Open from 12pm, the new terrace, as well as the entirety of Gaia, is consciously adhering to social distancing measures, as well as all COVID-19 protocols.
