7 Outfits to Wear This Fall

If there’s one thing I learned this year, it’s that you need to take joy where you can get it—be it from an episode of your favorite show, your favorite creamer mixed into your coffee in the morning, or dressing in real clothes when you have absolutely nowhere to go.Fall clothes are the height of fashion; every other season pales in comparison to the rich tones, excess of textures, and variety of options that fall has to offer. And, pandemic or not, that’s something that should be relished.
Whether you’re looking for an outfit to wear to your Thanksgiving at home or just something to spice up your average Tuesday (we feel you), these are seven fool-proof outfits to wear this season, chock-full of camel tones, cozy sweaters, and all the fun boots your cabin-fever-ridden self could dream up. Throw your sweats in the hamper and try out one of these this week:

    1. A sweater dress, knee-high boots, and a quilted bag

This is the quintessential Thanksgiving look: you’re ultra-cozy in a sweater dress (and no pants, obviously), but the contrast between the camel sweater and black boots makes the look feel dressed-up and seasonally appropriate.
Here, the accessories have the potential to do all the talking. For something fancier, top it off with cat-eye sunnies and a quilted bag (like we did here). To dress it down, pair it with your favorite shoulder bag and aviators. The options are endless.

sweater dress / boots / bag / sunglasses

    2. A camel coat, skinny jeans, and loafers

There are few things a good camel coat can’t fix, and if you’re in search of a new go-to uniform, chances are, a camel coat could be your missing ingredient. This one is ultra-flattering with puffed sleeves and a wrap detail, and the emerald green python loafers give it an unexpected element that screams autumn. A white, top-handle bag serves as the icing on the cake, and gives another layer of dimension by adding another neutral color to the mix.

    jeans / coat / sweater / loafers / bag

    3. A lace top, leather pants, and heeled boots

Leather and lace is the juxtaposition that we turn to time and time again for the combination of edginess and femininity that it can simultaneously bring. Here, we stuck to shades of tan to give it a monochromatic feel, and topped it off with pops of white.
When searching for a good lace blouse, we’re partial to one with a high neck and detailing that gives it the ability to be paired with anything, from jeans to your work pants.

    pants / top / boots / bag

    4. A matching set, sherpa moto jacket, and white sneakers

We’re all trying to figure out ways to look chic while staying cozy this year, and nothing does that more than a monochrome matching set (that can double as going-out wear and loungewear) paired with a cool-girl jacket and sneakers. It’s effortless, relaxed, and gives the appearance that you spent way more thought on it than you did (let’s be real, you probably rolled out of bed in it—but no one would ever know).

matching set / sneakers / jacket / sunglasses

    5. A puffer, light-wash jeans, and white sneakers

Oversized puffers are one of the top outerwear trends of the season, and it isn’t hard to figure out why: they’re simple, practical, and exude coolness. Pair yours with your favorite sweater and jeans, and top it off with your favorite sneakers and sunglasses for an outfit you can take from errands to an outdoor happy hour with friends.

    jeans / puffer / sweater / sneakers / bag

    6. A black turtleneck, black leather pants, and white coat

If there’s one thing 2020 did right, it’s faux leather. Long gone are the days of squeaky, cheap pleather that you had to shimmy around your bedroom to get into. This year is full of soft, comfortable options that look like the real thing—without the cost to your wallet or the environment.
There’s just something about a long, white coat, and paired on top of an all-black look, it pops and serves as the winter white look of our dreams. If you want to go the extra mile, add a statement bag on top—then wear it all everywhere you go this winter.

    coat / pants / top / bag / boots

    7. A matching set and cozy sherpa jacket

This jacket is the sherpa of our dreams, and we’ve been wearing ours everywhere from late-night runs to get wine to on the couch all day while we’re working. The leather detailing on it brings it up a notch from your average sherpa jacket and makes it worthy of wear all season long.

Every Coat We Need to Discuss From “Emily in Paris”

OK, confession time: The plot of Emily in Paris wasn’t exactly my thing. I scoffed every time yet another perfect French man strolled into Emily’s life and rolled my eyes at her rapid Instagram growth with little effort. So what made me finish all 10 episodes in a mere weekend? Her clothes.Emily’s wardrobe is, in a word, perfection. It’s eclectic and fun and colorful and everything unexpected that we actually wanted this year. And my personal favorite part of all of it? Her coats and jackets. There is absolutely nothing that can steal the show like a fabulous jacket can, and Emily proved that in just about every scene in the show. I didn’t know I needed a metallic green jacket, but hell, I guess she showed me that I do now.
Sit back, enjoy the show, and leave the frantic Googling to us—these are the closest dupes on the Internet to Emily Cooper’s swoon-worthy coat collection (all at price’s that are a lot less than her Chanel habits).

    1.

Of course Emily was on the shacket trend before anyone else. This red, plaid one is perfect to cozy up in for the holiday season.

    2.

A classic blush coat is something you’ll never regret having. For extra Emily points, pair it with something bright underneath.

    3.

Never did I think I’d want something turquoise in my wardrobe in 2020 (the same exact color as my senior year homecoming dress), but leave it to Emily to show us how fun and different it can be.

    4.

One of Emily’s more classic looks, this plaid blazer pairs well with just about everything—and the beret to top it off is icing on the cake.

    5.

This coat was, arguably, my favorite of the entire season and made me want to toss my black coats out the window immediately. If you ever needed inspiration to have fun with your outerwear, this is it.

    6.

Mindy’s chic python blazer dress steals the show here, but we also can’t deny how fabulous this metallic, emerald look is either (again, who would’ve thought?). You can’t go wrong with either of these for a go-to for a statement look.

    7.

Can you imagine walking into a Christmas party in this? Enough said.

    8.

When Emily walked on-screen in this coat, I stopped what I was doing and searched “green coat” on every site I could think of. While this Chanel one is a liiiiiittle out of budget, you can get a similar look with these:

    9.

This slouchy, black denim number captures that effortless Parisian vibe with little-to-no effort.

    10.

A leather blazer was already on our 2020 wish list, and this solidified it near the top of the spot. Mindy also looks incredible in this out-of-the-box number, proving how fabulous bright patterns can be.

    11.

Of all the blazers I’ve seen frequently, a classic red one isn’t on that last, and after seeing this one, I can’t figure out why that is. Wear it for the holiday season and beyond by pairing it with all your neutral pieces (or if you want to channel Emily even more, with something bright).

    12.

While the leather beret is an obvious talking point here, this mid-toned green jacket checks a box that few other things can: it somehow is both classic and fun.

    13.

A red, plaid blazer is the investment piece that will have you patting yourself on the back again and again. Pair it with one of this season’s out-of-the-box collared tops to capture this look seamlessly.

    14.

When you’re covering your entire outfit with a coat, the coat might as well do all the talking; and what talks more than this bad boy?

    15.

This classic coat would look just as amazing with black or white underneath, but Emily shows how versatile it is with these fun, bubblegum pink pieces.  More

Meet Holli Rogers, the CEO at Browns Fashion & CBO at Farfetch

October’s – ‘The Bravery Issue’ – Download Now
Holli Rogers is brave. Having championed new brands for over a decade, in her dual role as CEO at Browns Fashion & CBO at Farfetch, she is integral to celebrating creativity, diversity and providing an ecosystem that encourages both.
Tell us about your dual role and how you manage to balance the two?
I joined Browns five years ago and am incredibly proud of the work achieved to date, we are this year celebrating the brands 50th anniversary which is such a momentous milestone. This hand-in-hand with the dual role within FARFETCH has really given us the opportunity across the group to talk to fashion in a meaningful way, one that resonates with the larger customer base whilst continuing to build on the Farfetch brand.
You’ve built a superb team. What do you look for when hiring?

Firstly, thank you! We think they’re an amazing bunch of people too! Obviously, we want to work with people with incredible experience and who love fashion and technology, but it’s much more than that for us. Our culture is something we’re really proud of and we have a simply incredible team. We’ve been able to build this team because we’re values-focused. Our values are important to us and they have been critical in building the incredible culture we have over the years. Our values are:
    • Be Human

    • Think Global
•Todos Juntos (which means ‘Everyone Together’ in Portuguese)
    • Be Revolutionary
    • Be Brilliant
    • Amaze Customers
We love it when people bring their whole selves to work, so we look for people who see themselves in these values and who would feel at home in a culture like Farfetch’s. Obviously, we are also looking for people who are really creative, who adore fashion and who also love the transformative nature of technology as well.  But, we hire from many different career backgrounds as we think people’s experience, both in work and in life can be applied in new roles. We talk about people being ‘Good for Farfetch’, ‘Good for Role’ and ‘Good for Growth’ – meaning that they can apply their past experiences to new challenges.
You have to wear many ‘hats’ in your current roles – do you find you’re naturally adept at any and which do you enjoy the most?
One of the things I love most about my work here is the variety in my day to day – it’s hard to choose a favourite part!  I have to be both creative but also really strategic and focused and I really enjoy that mix. I’ve loved fashion all of my life, but I’ve also loved taking that creative side and helping grow successful businesses.
When you’ve moved in your career or taken on new challenges, did you go with your gut?
Yes, I’m a big believer in following your gut and not being afraid to make brave choices. I also think it is important to not always adhere to the constructs of what a job role should look like, how do we define a CEO? For example, in 2003 I took a year-long sabbatical as after years of travel and long hours – it was the right thing for me to do for myself. In truth, only you know what you need so it is important to follow your own path.
Which brands or products are your real hero buys this season and which are you most proud of discovering?
This season I’m investing in accessories from Bottega Venetta – Daniel Lee can do no wrong, homewares from the very talented Anissa Kermiche and anything from Richard Quinn as we are all craving dressing up. I also am a huge fan of the Adidas x Lotta Volkova collection, it is undoubtedly the collaboration of the season, and Lotta is the talented stylist behind the FARFETCH campaign.
You’ve created such a supportive ecosystem for brands – how have you achieved this?
Both FARFETCH and Browns were community-focused businesses from day one. Jose Neves, FARFETCH’s founder and CEO, was a shoe designer and boutique owner himself before he started the company, so he had a deep understanding of the fashion industry and what would be helpful for the community – and that’s why he built FARFETCH as a platform for the industry. Browns, similarly, was also always about supporting and championing the community of up and coming designers – it was never just about retailing alone, but also about fostering the fashion community as a whole.

We’ve kept this philosophy going now over many years. Browns is coming up to its 50-year anniversary and FARFETCH is almost 13 years old. In both businesses, we are still very committed to helping the fashion industry thrive.
We love Farfetch’s rebrand – what was the thought process behind this and why now?
FARFETCH has been partnering with some of the world’s best designers and stores for over 10 years and is now in its second chapter as a company – we needed an identity that reflects that. This point in our journey is the perfect moment to build on our growth so far, and marks a new era for us.
Do you have any brands you’ve been faithful to wearing for years?
I’m pretty faithful to brands when it comes to footwear – Manolo Blahnik, Amina Muaddi and Aquazurra come to mind. I also love supporting the next generation of talent and am currently wearing Marine Serre, Duran Lantink and Richard Quinn on repeat.
What today in this market is luxury?
Luxury is the ability to reflect and as the campaign says to open doors, and our minds. I’m hoping with this current moment of pause coupled with the need to be more sustainably-minded that within the luxury arena we can collectively find ways to slow down, and in turn champion the value of products and design longer.
Do you see any buying patterns in terms of global sales?
This season, we have definitely seen a shift towards more classical and effortless styles as well as comfort and athletic wear. We are also seeing an uplift in investment pieces including fine jewellery and bags. I do think that we will naturally see a shift in shopping habits which I believe we were already seeing prior to the pandemic. This is particularly prevalent within the younger generation of customers who are much more consciously minded and who are also pivoting spending to more lifestyle-focused products, whether that be wellbeing or homewares along with experiences. They are also seeking brands with values and authentic stories to tell and I think this will become more important than ever.
What effect has social media played on the fashion industry’s growth?
Social media has played a huge role in driving trends globally and connecting people from around the world. It is an incredible resource to scout new talent, discover brands and platform new voices and I know the buyers at Browns use it as a constant reference. It also has been an incredible tool in driving social awareness and consciousness within the fashion community with many brands and designers using it as a way to educate, connect and inspire.
What advice would you give to your younger self starting out?
Trust your instinct and don’t get caught up in the hype. You can have very clear goals, flexibility in how you get there is key.
This is ‘The Bravery Issue’ – what to you is bravery?
Making bold choices and challenging the status quo. For fashion, I think we have to approach the future only looking forward to what lies ahead, avoiding nostalgia.

We Can’t Get Enough of These Fall Outfit Combos From Instagram

If you ask me, Instagram is the superior social media site. It’s where I go to digest fashion inspo, seek out the latest and greatest home decor trends, find my next at-home workout, and dream about all of the dogs I’ll one day own. Taking a peek into the posts I’ve bookmarked is a glimmer into my soul. In my saved folder, you’ll find a lot of things: corgis galore, the next booty workout I totally intend to but probably won’t try, and bedroom landscapes that I want to copy/paste into my own space. But above all, you’ll find outfit formulas that I want to replicate next.Shoutout to all of the chic, cool fashion girls on the world wide web that make me think that I, too, can be a chic, cool fashion girl! In my pursuit to satisfy my inner-fashionista and solve all of my “what am I going to wear today” woes, I’ve rounded up these 20 foolproof fall outfit combos that I want to copy ASAP:

    1. All black and a pop of white:

This is the ultimate cool-girl outfit combo and is so easy to pull off. I love a good black-on-black, monochrome look on a good day but adding a pop of white makes for the perfect subtle statement.

    2. A matching set with an oversized coat:

Running errands has never looked so good. Adding a long-lined coat to your matching set is the perfect way to add a little spice to your athleisure. 10/10 will be trying this one out!

    3. A collared sweater with plaid, tailored pants:

I am absolutely obsessed with this tailored look. Adding a white button-down shirt is such an effortless way to upgrade your average sweater, and pairing with plaid trousers makes for the perfect fall vibe.

    4. A button-down white shirt, denim, and a pair of kitten heels:

This is the outfit combination of my dreams. Styling a white button-down, jeans, and a kitten heel is so unbelievably simple, yet oh-so classic. Pair with your favorite statement sunnies and you’re good to go.

    5. A bold, tailored suit:

A monochrome, tailored suit says, “I’m here to rock your world.” This look is so powerful and pairing with a set of heels and statement jewelry really sends this outfit combo home.

    6. A fitted puffer with dad sneaks:

Fitted puffer with dad sneaks? Say no more. This trendy outfit combo is super casual and perfect for a fall Saturday hitting up the Farmer’s Market and grabbing coffee with a friend.

    7. A leather mini skirt, a graphic tee, and an oversized blazer:

Graphic tees are my love language, so it’s no surprise that I love this outfit formula. Pairing a tee with a faux leather mini skirt and an oversized jacket is my idea of a good time and I’ll be sure to rock this look until Chicago weather says otherwise.

    8. White jeans and a plaid blazer:

Whoever said that you can’t wear white after Labor Day was seriously mistaken, and our girl Kathleen Barnes is here to prove it. White denim paired with a chunky knit sweater or a plaid blazer is so tasteful and is the chic, fall look no one saw coming.

    9. A chunky knit sweater, a maxi skirt, and snakeskin booties:

Adding a delicate midi-skirt and statement booties is such a fun way to up your fall sweater game and extend the life of your spring/summer skirt collection. I can’t wait to give this combo a try for so many reasons, the first being that it looks so unbelievably comfy.

    10. A plaid blazer, jeans, and mules:

This is the classic fall look I’ll wear again and again and again. A plaid blazer, a turtleneck or mock-neck sweater, denim, and mules is such a foolproof outfit formula that always will have your back.

    11. A camel coat, a graphic tee, leggings, and sneakers:

Like I stated previously, I am a sucker for a good graphic tee. I may be biased as I already have worn this exact outfit this past weekend but this look is so freakin’ easy to pull off. Adding a camel coat and a crossbody bag to leggings, a tee, and sneaks makes for the comfiest, coolest outfit in the game.

    12. Leather trousers, a light sweater, and layered necklaces:

Grab your leather trousers, ladies, this look is at the top of our “to-try” list. When I came across this combo, I gasped. If you already have a pair of leather pants, the rest basically styles itself. I love the idea of adding a black mock-neck sweater to make perfectly layered jewelry pop.

    13. A white tee, denim, sneakers, and a trench coat:

This look is so beautifully simple to the point where I just can’t stop staring at it. Adding a trench coat to a white tee, denim, and sneakers automatically upgrades your look and will be your new weekend go-to.

    14. A monochrome moment:

How chic is this monochrome look? If I could copy/paste this outfit onto my body right now, I would. Wear with a pair of statement sunglasses and you have the most dreamy fall outfit of all time, ever.

    15. An oversized plaid jacket, leather shorts, and combat boots:

When I say I want to dress like the characters in Emily in Paris, I’m talking specifically about an outfit like this. It’s the perfect mix of prints and textures without being too off-the-wall (I love you Emily but I can’t do your wild color palette). I’m obsessed with this look and need to try it out STAT.

    16. Wide-leg trousers, an oversized blazer, and a silk blouse:

This bold look is *chef’s kiss* and these wide-leg trousers have me convinced that I need wide-leg trousers. Pairing them with a silk top and an oversized blazer is the fall statement that I want to be making this year. So bold, so chic.

    17. A balloon-sleeve sweater, light wash denim, and printed slides:

Name a cuter work-from-home look, I’ll wait. Balloon-sleeve sweaters are my favorite fall trend and once you have one (or 10), the rest of this outfit is so easy to put together. Grab your favorite denim and some printed mules and you’re set!

    18. A bold piece of outwear:

I’ve been in the market for a bold piece of outwear and I’m taking notes from this leopard trench coat. As much as I love neutrals, I can’t help but dream of a statement coat that stops traffic, styles itself, and says, “I’m cool and confident.”

    19. An oversized puffer, a mock neck sweater, and a plaid skirt:

‘Tis the season for plaid, ladies. I am loving this pleated plaid skirt/puffer combo, which is such a fun option to rock before the temps drop to below freezing. If you live in a climate that’s a bit warmer than Chicago, please rock this for me all season long. I will be forever in your debt.

    20. A sweater dress with over-the-knee boots:

I have a theory that a good sweater dress can solve all of your problems. If you’re not sure what to wear on a fall Sunday, this is it. Pair with over-the-knee boots and your favorite bag for a perfect autumnal look. More

How to Take Care of Your Sweaters

When the weather is cold, you know exactly what you want to reach for when getting dressed in the morning — not your silky camisole, not your trendy blazer, and not your fancy work top. No, when the weather is freezing, you want to reach for a trusted, comfy, so-cozy-you-never-want-to-take-it-off sweater. From early fall to the end of winter, a sweater is undoubtedly your best friend. And like any other best friend, sweaters require love and care. While they’re extremely delicate, they can last through many wears and many seasons if you treat them the right way. Here’s how to properly take care of your sweaters so they can last as long as you want them to:
    Remove pills the right way.
Is there anything as annoying as pilling on a favorite sweater!? A perfectly fine and pretty wool cardigan can start to look like an ungroomed dog after a while. Unfortunately, all sweaters pill — it’s caused by rubbing during wear and is more apparent around the elbows, under armpits, and on sleeves, but can occur anywhere on the sweater.
To remove pills easily, hold the sweater flat with one hand and slice the the pills off (one at a time) with a razor. You can also buy a pill remover. Do not pull at them, or else the pilling will become worse.

Turn any noticeable snags inside out.
Snags (aka when the stitch comes out of the sweater) are the worst because they seem unfixable, and you risk the sweater unraveling with any little possibility that the snag gets caught on something. Snags are not completely fixable, but luckily, they can be placed on the inside, so they’re no longer an issue on the outside. Simply turn the sweater inside out, insert a crochet hook into the same stitch as the snag, and carefully pull the snag through.

    Source: Kiki & Bow

Remove dandruff, hair, and lint, regularly.
A child’s soft hairbrush or a soft toothbrush will help you quickly brush off anything on the sweater (looking at you, dog hair!). Just make sure not to brush too harshly on the sweater or it will loosen the fabric and create pills.

Know how to wash, and when.
Washing a sweater is never easy or fun (though is any laundry “fun?”). Most of the time, you should always hand wash your sweaters to make them last longer and keep the fabric in tact.
To hand wash, fill a bucket or sink with cool water, add a few squirts of gentle laundry detergent, submerge the sweater, and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Then rinse it under cool water. To dry, gently squeeze water out of the sweater (never wring it out) and roll it up in a towel (like a sleeping bag or sushi roll) to suck up all the excess water. Finally, lay it flat on a drying rack or clean towel to dry.
Cotton, silk, or cashmere typically needs to be washed after two to three wears, while wool or polyester can withstand more like five wears. But make sure to follow the directions on the label, and don’t wash any more often unless the sweater has a stain (like sweat or a spill).
And if it says dry clean only (as it does with most wool), then you know the drill: dry clean only.

    Source: @daniellemoss_

To extend washes, wear a t-shirt underneath.
Since washing is not ideal for sweaters, there are ways to extend the amount of time you need to wash them. Wearing a t-shirt acts as a barrier between the sweater and skin, limiting the amount of outside forces and smells the fabric interacts with. Since things like sweat, body odor, oils on the skin, and deodorant can cause the sweater to lose its shape, the sweater stays in tact longer when you wear a t-shirt that acts as a barrier.

You can save an itchy sweater.
Is there anything worse than a sweater so itchy, it loses all its coziness!? In order to bring itchy back to soft and cozy, add liquid fabric softener to the cold water when you’re washing your sweater. Allow the sweater to thoroughly swirl around the water and let it sit. You can also try adding half a cup of hair conditioner instead of fabric softener, for extra softness. Just make sure you avoid 2-in-1 conditioner/shampoo combinations and heavy hair masks. Also stick to hydrating or standard conditioner, rather than other formulas meant for volumizing or thickening.

Always store sweaters properly in your closet.
Repeat after me: Never. Hang. Sweaters. Hanging will cause sweaters to stretch out and cause peaks in the shoulders. Keep sweaters folded or rolled in drawers or on shelves. Properly fold them by laying them front-down on a flat surface and fold each arm (from the sleeve seam diagonally across the sweater’s back). Then, either fold it horizontally in half, or roll from the bottom hem up to the collar. If you must hang them, fold the sweater over the hanger, on top of a piece of tissue paper to prevent crease.

Take the time to correctly pack up your sweaters after winter.
