UAE and Saudi residents can now apply for an e-visa to Japan

    Lifestyle

    by Sarah Joseph

If Japan was on your travel bucket list this year, the process to visit is now a whole lot easier with the latest e-visa laws.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a new online tourist visa system, and only residents of a select few countries, including the the Emirates and KSA, as well as Brazil, UK, USA, Cambodia, Canada, Mongolia, Taiwan, Singapore and South Africa.
JNTO’s Dubai office Executive Director Daisuke Kobayashi said the new measures will “will ease the process to visit Japan for touristic purposes.”
As for Qatari nationals, a new “Visa Waiver Registration” Seal has been announced. They can now have their passports registered at the embassy. Upon registration, applicants will then receive a “Visa Waiver Registration” seal within their passport, which will entitle them to multiple short-term stays in Japan without a need for a visa for a period of 3 years or on the expiration date of the passport.
For UAE nationals, the full visa waiver has been incredibly successful as no visa is required for them to visit the country.

    Application process
All residents are required to apply more than 7 days before their trip. Applicants will need to apply via the dedicated website JAPAN eVISA, where upon successful submission, a digital confirmation visa will be sent to the applicant.
At immigration, visitors will need to simply log on to the website and show the visa upon entry.
The new system allows residents of permitted countries to apply for an online tourist visa which will grant e-visas for up to 90 days in Japan.
    No COVID-19 restrictions
Per the Japanese government, the Japanese government has announced that it will cease COVID-19-related entry requirements to the country from May 8, 2023, in line with Covid-19 being classified as a common disease. This means travelers no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test from May 8 onward.

When is the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr long weekend for UAE’s public sector?

    Lifestyle

    by Sarah Joseph

As per the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, dates have confirmed the Eid Al Fitr holiday period for the public sector (Government workers) in the Islamic Calendar (Hijri).
A post on Twitter has been shared announcing that the Eid al-Fitr holiday for the Federal Government is from Ramadan 29 until the Shawwal 3.

Eid al –Fitr holiday for the Federal Government from 29th of Ramadan until the 03rd of Shawwal pic.twitter.com/P3UVvglmfy
    — FAHR (@FAHR_UAE) April 13, 2023

However, the moon-sighting committee will convene on the night Ramadan 29 to confirm the dates of Eid. Depending on this, the holiday could begin from Thursday, April 20 and run until Sunday, April 23, with regular working hours then resuming on Monday, April 24, 2023.
How long is the break for?
The Eid Al Fitr holiday will begin on Thursday April 20 in the UAE.
This completely depends on when the moon is sighted The start date of the break does not depend on when the moon is sighted as Ramadan 29 falls on April 20. If the moon is spotted on that night, the break is from Thursday, April 20, until Sunday, April 23.
If the moon is not seen on that night, residents will have an additional day off since Ramadan 30 will also be a holiday. It’s still yet to be confirmed by the sighting of the moon as to whether the Eid break will be four or five days, but work will resume either on Monday April 24 or Tuesday April 25, depending on whether Ramadan is 29 or 30 days.
    What is Eid Al Fitr?
In the Islamic Calendar, Eid Al Fitr marks the official end of Ramadan and is the first day of Shawwal. During the Holy Month Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset for around 30 days, depending on the sighting of the moon. Eid Al Fitr marks the end of fasting, and literally translates in English to the “feast of breaking the fast”.

Exclusive: In the office with the Co-Founders of Clay Concept

    Lifestyle

    by Camille Macawili

    VIEW GALLERY/ 6 IMAGES
How long have you been in this space?
Our showroom in Al Wasl opened in November of last year.
Have you custom-built any bespoke pieces for the showroom?
We are in love with mid-century design and wanted to add a mid-century touch to our space, so we used a real Terrazo floor throughout the showroom. We wanted the showroom to feel more personal – like a home – so we custom-built a little kitchen using IKEA fronteriors panels and we sourced Omani marble for the countertop. We then added a dark scenic wallpaper to create a contrasting mood in the space. These little bespoke additions made our showroom distinctive, and we added our curated furniture and accessories and the space came to life.
How do you think the interior buys reflect you?
We love iconic design pieces that are reminiscent of an era or tell the story of the designer that created them. I like the fact that a home can be one’s personal gallery and that each piece is perfectly curated. When we select furniture for Clay, we try to go for timeless and iconic designs that can transcend time and trends.
Describe your taste in three words.
    Contemporary, curated, iconic.
Swipe through for a tour inside the office of Meryem and Aida Sekkat, Co-Founders of Clay Concept.
