    While travel is very much back on everyone’s radars, sometimes certain passports require specific visas, which can quite often be a tedious process. However, for UAE residents, there are many destinations which are visa-free or have a visa-on-arrival option.
    When is Eid Al-Adha?
    Eid Al Adha 2024 break is when it shall be. With June around the corner,  UAE, residents can start planning for a potential extended weekend. While the specific date for Arafat Day is subject to confirmation by a moon sighting committee, it is anticipated to occur around Saturday, June 15, or Sunday, June 16.
    Following Arafat Day, Muslims around the world observe Eid Al Adha.  This joyous occasion, occurring on the 10th day of Dhuʻl-Hijjah, is marked by communal prayers, feasting, and acts of charity. Families and friends come together to share meals and celebrate, while also extending kindness to those in need.
    In 2024, Eid Al Adha is projected to commence on the evening of Sunday, June 16, or Monday, June 17, depending on the moon. The celebration traditionally lasts for three days, providing ample time for individuals to engage in religious observances and spend quality time with loved ones.

    All UAE residents who have a valid visa can travel to the country and receive a visa on arrival in Georgia.     Azerbaijan

    Japan

    If Japan was on your travel bucket list this year, the process to visit is now a whole lot easier with the latest e-visa laws. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a new online tourist visa system. All residents are required to apply more than seven days before their trip. Applicants will need to apply via the dedicated website Japan eVISA, where upon successful submission, a digital confirmation visa will be sent to the applicant. At immigration, visitors will need to simply log on to the website and show the visa upon entry. The new system allows residents of permitted countries to apply for an online tourist visa which will grant e-visas for up to 90 days in Japan.

    Maldives

    For a quick idyllic getaway, a tourist visa is granted to all nationalities visiting the country. A few requirements such as a pre-paid hotel or accommodation booking, sufficient funds to last during the stay, confirmed tickets to return to their home country or country of residence and a traveller declaration form which must be filled in and submitted by all passengers going to and from the Maldives within 96 hours of travel. A visa for a maximum time period of 30 days will be granted on arrival for tourists. With an archipelago of islands to visit, travellers can experience nature at its finest.

    Seychelles

    With Seychelles being a visa-free country, Indian citizens will not require a visa on arrival or an e-visa to enter the country for a short stay. This scenic escape ensures a seamless travel experience, however, a valid passport will be required to gain entry into the country. However, certain documents such as a valid return ticket, confirmed accommodation and sufficient funds for the duration of the stay amounting to $150 (Dhs550) per day are required in case asked for.

    Nepal

    Most nationalities can receive a visa on arrival for a small price depending on the tenure of the visit. A 15-day visa costs Dhs110, a 30-day visa costs Dhs183 or a 90-day permit for Dhs460 and can be decided accordingly upon arrival. All Indian passport holders do not require any visa and can visit hassle-free.

    Serbia

    For passports with a valid Schengen, UK or US visa, a visa-free entry is granted upon arrival. Upon arrival in Indonesia, there is a checkpoint available for visa on arrival which is priced at $35 (Dhs128).

    Mauritius

Upon arrival, passengers need to visit the immigration counter and show the original passport to obtain an entry stamp.

    Sri Lanka

    All UAE residents can receive an e-visa which can be obtained from the comfort of their homes. A visa can be applied for online prior to visiting with the ETA, initially limited to 30 days.     This one can’t be stressed enough. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid sugary drinks and opt for water, coconut water, or diluted fruit juices. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it frequently.
    2. Seek Shade and Limit Sun Exposure

    The sun is at its strongest between 11 am and 4 pm. During this time, stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces or seek shade outdoors. Plan outdoor activities for early mornings or evenings when the temperatures are cooler.
    3. Dress for the Heat

    Wear loose, lightweight, and breathable clothing made from natural fibers like cotton or linen. Opt for light-colored clothing that reflects sunlight. Protect your head with a hat and wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from UV rays.

    How to healthily navigate through a career burnout

    Experiencing career burnout can be incredibly challenging. It’s a feeling of being emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted due to prolonged stress.
    Dr Gurveen Ranger, Clinical Psychologist, Lead for Corporate Wellbeing and Adult Mental Health at Sage Clinics, on recognising the signs of career burnout.
    What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine?
    The first 30 minutes of my day involves hitting the snooze button acouple of times, so I get up gradually. I try to start the day mindfully – so I avoid looking at my phone until I have left the house and focus on getting ready. Half the week I start work a little later, so I start my day with some form of exercise at home, and I find I have a bit more energy for the rest of the day.
    Talk us through you career.
    I decided I wanted to be a psychologist when I was about 16 years old, doing my college A Level in Psychology. Prior to this I knew nothing about it and thought I was going to be a journalist! Learning about the psychological theories got me hooked on the subject, and I found it fascinating learning about how the brain and our minds can work. This, coupled with a desire to help people meant it was the perfect career for me to pursue and find meaning in. After my undergraduate degree in Psychology, I worked in various NHS establishments in the UK, gaining experience in the mental health field so I could eventually pursue the doctoral clinical psychology training. I have always loved to be challenged, and so after several years working post doctorate in a service for people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, I decided the next challenge was to move here to the UAE and be part of establishing a new clinic – in a region where narratives around mental health are progressing but still in their relative infancy. I have enjoyed the work we are doing to raise awareness about mental health and have ended up specialising in corporate wellbeing, recognising the significant need for this in the UAE.
    What are the key symptoms of a career burnout?
    Career burnout means emotional, physical and mental exhaustion from prolonged stress or dissatisfaction in your career. The key signs include physical exhaustion, where you may notice you feel exhausted, no matter how much sleep you get, and emotional exhaustion, which leaves you feeling overwhelmed, cynical, and detached from your work and colleagues. You may notice a feeling of dread when you wake in the morning which lingers throughout the day. Thirdly, mental exhaustion where you may notice a decline in cognitive abilities, including memory and concentration, increased absenteeism that leads to burnout along with an increase in sick days and a decrease in productivity and lastly decreased motivation, where burnout can lead to a lack of enthusiasm and interest in work, which can impact your performance. You may notice getting less of a sense of achievement in your work, or feel like you are not good enough regardless of your actual accomplishments and therefore feel less inclined to put the work in.
    How is the mind and body interconnected – can stress lead to adverse affects in the body?
    Absolutely, there is a lot of research on the impact of stress on the body. When we are stressed, we are often in fight or flight mode – our threat response, and the brain releases more stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to help the body deal with the stressor. Whilst helpful in a dangerous situation, when it is activated frequently by chronic stressors we start to see an impact on the body. Such impact includes headaches, muscle tension and soreness, digestive issues, and overall weakened immune function to name a few. There is also an impact on our sleep, concentration, and our emotions – for example heightened anxiety, and our emotions are experienced physically in our bodies. A little more indirectly when we are stressed, we tend to engage in less self-care, so our diet may change, we may exercise less, and this will have an impact on our bodies too. So, when I work with clients on stress management, we look at it from both psychological and physiological perspectives.
    What’s the best technique to regulate during a stressful situation?
    During a specific stressful situation grounding can be really helpful in the moment. This might be focusing on your five senses (the 54321 exercise is good – name in your mind five things you can see around you, four things you can touch – really feel them, three things you can hear, two things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste). This helps us “drop and anchor” and get present in a moment when our thoughts and emotions may be overwhelming and racing. Deep breathing is also a good in-themoment strategy, as our breathing is often dysregulated during the threat response.Breathing in to a count of four and out to a count of six is a good way to do this, and ensure your abdomen is moving more than your chest – so you know you are taking a good, full breath. You can place one hand on your stomach and one hand on your chest as you breathe to help determine this. More broadly, meditative exercises can be helpful to practice regularly to manage stress. Mindfulness meditation and relaxation meditation are a couple of ways of doing this and you can typically find good audios or scripts online.

    How important is it to set healthy boundaries at work?
    It is essential to set healthy boundaries at work to ensure a healthy work/life balance and prevent burnout. When we don’t have healthy boundaries, we often feel overwhelmed, resentful, and frustrated. Healthy boundaries also help us feel more fulfilled – by only taking on what we have capacity to do, we end up feeling more motivated and satisfied, as we are able to give full attention to what we are doing – so you end up focusing on quality of work rather than purely quantity of output where we feel like we are working hard never achieving anything that feels “good enough.”
    What are some of the top selfcare practices that can be incorporated in our busy schedules?
    Protect break times – block this time in your diary, even if it is only 30 minutes. We often tell ourselves we don’t have time, but research indicates we are actually more productive when we take breaks. If you can, move away from your desk for your break. Start and leave work on time as much as possible – I know many people who use their morning commute to catch up on emails, which means they are often in ‘threat mode’ before they even get to work. Using this time to be more mindful – focusing on surroundings or listening to something like a podcast or music can help us start the day in a more grounded way. Same for after work – hide away your laptop so it is out of sight and plan something else – relaxing, social, or active! If you absolutely have to check emails in the evenings, set limits on when and how often you do this. Aim for a routine as schedules may be very busy, having a regular sleep/ wake time can be really helpful for our wellbeing, alongside regular balanced meals. It may not be possible to get to a gym multiple times a week when you are so busy but a short walk or a 20-minute home workout are also great – anything to kick start the endorphins. Connect to others – colleagues, friends and family members, social connection can go a long way for stress management. If you are short on time you could combine – so meet a friend but go fora walk or activity together so you are socialising and getting some exercise in at the same time. Lastly, stress management techniques are important – as mentioned before, learning to be more mindful is a key way of managing stress. Alongside this, relaxation strategies as well as engaging in leisure activities as mentioned above are all key parts of stress management. If you are noticing the signs of stress or burnout and would like some help in managing this, I would recommend speaking to a therapist.
    Many employees are navigating through the imposter syndrome – how can this affect our mental health?
    Impostor syndrome, whilst not a ‘clinical’ diagnosis is so common in all walks of life, and I see it a lot in my corporate clients. No matter how successful they are or how much they have achieved, there is this pervasive self-doubt – questioning their accomplishments, skills and talents and this persistent fear of being “found out” to be a fraud or not good enough. I often see this in new mums too. This pulls us into overworking, comparing themselves to others, and downplaying achievements. Understandably, this can impact our mental health, and often co-exists alongside depression or anxiety for example. This then becomes self-perpetuating, as the more we believe we are not good enough, the more we dismiss positive feedback, avoid things, or self-criticise for making mistakes, and this then further impacts our mood and anxiety levels.
    When should one seek for help during their career?
    As early as possible. This way, you can access timely intervention which prevents the symptoms escalating into more chronic stress type difficulties and burnout. It also means you can catch certain unhelpful coping mechanisms like avoidance or overworking before they start to exacerbate the cycle of how you are feeling, and before they contribute to feeling disconnected from your career.
    This is The Body Issue – what are your nonnegotiable self and body care practices?
    Sleep! This is my number one rule. I know whenever I have a bad night’s sleep or have gone to sleep too late the knock-on effect on my concentration, mood, and productivity the next day is huge. I had to teach myself to reduce how much time I spent on my phone in the evenings, which was hard, but I got there eventually. Now I have a specific wind down routine, and screens are put away at least 30 minutes before I go to sleep. A balanced diet is important too. I have had to train myself on this too but having a routine where I prep everything in the evening and enough for a few days at a time has really helped, as the more stressed I am my default is convenience rather than nutrition, as is the case for many. Within this, I have also learned not to restrict anything, as actually that often leaves us feeling more stressed! Balance is key. It’s important to get regular health check-ups. I used to be someone who would dismiss symptoms and tell myself I didn’t have time to go for check-ups especially when I am too busy or stressed. But making time for this is not only essential from a health point of view, but also showing ourselves that we are worthy of self-care. When I work with clients who are coming forheightened anxiety or stress, I always recommend a routine physical health check-up if they haven’t had one for a long time, beforewe assume something like tiredness is solely related to stress, for example.

    How Nike is making waves in the wellness industry

    In April 2024, Nike hosted their inaugural Dubai edition of the brands global renown ‘Well Festival’ on 27 to 28, from 4pm to 11pm in a custom-built location at Nara Desert Resort.
    The event will feature two days of reimagined wellbeing experiences where mindfulness, movement, and connection come together in nature. From Yoga, Meditation to Mindfulness, there were a host of wellness-fuelled activities for guests, the event was filled with a host of unforgettable experiences with experts to learn and grow.
    Ahead of the program Emirates Woman spoke to the fitness and wellness coach Siham Zaki and a keen fitness enthusiast, Laura Fallaha on the overarching theme of the festival and how the brands plans to grow in the wellness arena in the Middle East.

    What was the Nike Wellness Collective?
    Moving together, moving in style & moving in grace! This is what Nike Well Festival was all about. Surrounded by vast expanses of sand and under the clear, starlit sky of Dubai, it felt like we were truly connecting with nature on a profound level. From yoga & sound healing sessions to high-intensity interval training sessions & super engaging panel discussions – all under the desert canopy, every moment was rejuvenating for the mind, the body, and the soul. Plus, the opportunity to disconnect from the “hustle and bustle” of daily life and immerse ourselves in this serene environment was so wholesome!
    What were your favourite parts about the programme?
    There was something for everyone. The lineup was diverse and dynamic – from high-intensity interval training to mindful breathing sessions, to clay building in the wadi… the list goes on. Each session was thoughtfully curated to cater to various fitness levels and interests. What really added a unique dimension to the programming is having four different zones that encompassed the sessions: the energy circle, the sanctuary, the conversation pit & the wadi. Each zone offered its own ambiance and purpose, creating a diverse and immersive environment for all participants.
    With a stressful daily routine – what are your top recommendations when it comes to exercising?
    Choose to move to something you ENJOY! When it comes to movement, make it personal, make it about you! Don’t limit yourself to traditional forms of movement, find a form of movement that you genuinely enjoy and look forward to doing – dancing, cycling, swimming, lifting – whatever it is! When you enjoy it, it will become easier to stay motivated to moving your body regularly while having fun with it..
    How do you adapt your approach to movement and feeling good for different skill levels or class demographics?
    Going back to basics – communicating openly with my participants. It is so important for me to engage and communicate with my participants to be able to understand their preferences, any physical limitations and what they hope to gain from their experience with me. With communicating, I can customize and modify the class program to cater to different skill levels. I also encourage my participants to listen to their bodies and to challenge themselves at their own pace – it’s okay to take breaks, lower the intensity, or skip exercises that don’t feel right for you.
    What simple practices can we adopt to be more mindful?
    It is important to highlight that mindfulness is a skill that takes time and practice to develop, especially when you have a hectic schedule, it becomes more challenging to practice mindfulness. I would suggest starting with small, manageable practices and gradually building upon them over time. Choose mindful practices that fit your own schedule and resonates with your own lifestyle.Here are some simple mindfulness practices that I personally incorporate in my day and that can be practiced anywhere, mindful breathing to take a few moments throughout the day to focus on your breath, mindful eating to chew slowly and pay attention to the sensations of eating. Eating mindfully can help you tune into your body’s hunger and fullness cues and prevent overeating and gratitude practice to take a few minutes each day to reflect on the things you’re grateful for.
    How is Nike changing the wellness landscape in the region?
    Nike Well Collective’s approach to wellbeing is championing a holistic and inclusive approach to health and fitness. It goes beyond traditional fitness programs – Nike Well Collective incorporates elements of mindfulness, nutrition, rest & connection.     What was your favourite part about the Nike Wellness Festival?
    Arriving there! Being transported to an exotic and breezy location… Remote yet close to a family of like-minded people with similar values and aspirations! Entering the festival area was such an inviting blend of raw natural beauty and serene charm filled with soothing music. This directly got me transported into a transformative journey of wellness and connection. The community feeling was beautiful, with people sharing their experiences and building their network. This experience, merging the natural beauty of the desert with the collective energy of the group, left a lasting impression and embodied the spirit of the Nike Well Festival. It was timeless.
    What does holistic fitness or movement mean to you?
    Movement has been a fascinating journey shaped by so many experiences and changes in my life. Through country relocations, job changes and adaptation to new lifestyles, movement has been a turning point in my holistic wellbeing both physically and mentally. The beauty of my fitness and movement journey was the agility and adaptability of it. Knowing the impact of movement in maintaining my overall wellbeing, it became a crucial component in my life. To me, holistic fitness and movement mean integrating multiple aspects of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing into one lifestyle. It goes beyond traditional exercise and includes practices that fulfill and nourish the body, the mind and the spirit: from diversifying workouts to practicing mindfulness and meditation, to prioritizing quality sleep and a balanced diet, to connecting with people, and setting goals to maintain motivation. Holistic fitness is about creating a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle that supports overall health, happiness, and longevity.
    Name something you do every single day without fail to look after your wellbeing?
    Structure! One thing I do every single day to look after my wellbeing is structuring my day. Taking a few minutes each day to sit quietly, focus on my work goals, my fitness goals, my nutrition plan and my social events helps me maintain efficiency, productivity and motivation throughout the day. Adapting my routine as needed and staying present in each moment is key to my overall wellbeing. This simple, yet powerful approach has become an essential part of my daily routine contributing to managing time and making sure I prioritize all elements to a fulfilling lifestyle.
    How is Nike changing the wellness landscape in the region?
    Being part of the Nike Well Collective and coaching the running community on Tuesdays (Mixed group interval training at the Nike Well Collective Marina store) and Wednesdays (Women’s only at the Dubai canal) offers multiple ways to engage and inform runners providing them with comprehensive support and nurturing a motivated running community. The approach to both days is different which makes the adaptability more exciting and focused on each runner’s goal. My aim is to always make sure I create a dynamic and inclusive environment where people can connect, support each other and thrive together. Working towards goals in a community motivates people to move, grow, learn from each other and build together. Leveraging the Nike Well Collective resources, I focus on informing runners to prioritize cross training, meditation and yoga. Digital engagement on the Nike Experiences is a strong element that helps and supports runners to widen and diversify their knowledge and training to manage injury prevention, strength and recovery.
    To balance both your corporate life and running/movement routine – how do you unwind?
    It is not always easy especially when you need to manage timings, career goals, fitness goals and wardrobes! Balancing my corporate life with my running routine requires proper mental clarity to be efficient while still maintaining overall well-being. For me, having a structured schedule is key to a busy schedule: planning ahead and following a consistent routine to create a sense of balance. It can definitely be overwhelming sometimes, which brings me to my next point: incorporating mindfulness and self-care through meditation and yoga, and treating myself to massages sometimes to help unwind, reduce stress and enhance mental clarity. The key to my work life balance is also knowing how to set boundaries and when to take a break. Through trial and error, you can learn what makes you feel better, let it be a short walk, some breathing exercises, a run to disconnect etc.. Depending on the type of unwinding I need, I focus on what makes me feel better to reset and balance. By implementing these key elements in my work life balance, I try to manage my corporate responsibilities with my running routine, ensuring I maintain the energy and mental clarity to succeed in both areas.
    Can you talk us through what your running routine normally looks like in a week?
    My running routine can typically look like a 70-30 mix of easy social runs, and threshold/interval runs respectively. Within my running program I focus on mixing speed / aerobic training, with long endurance / stamina building, and with recovery / mobility movement. Additionally, I focus on strengthening, stretching, hydration, nutrition and adequate sleep. This routine provides me with a balanced mix of different types of runs and cross-training activities, promoting overall fitness and reducing the risk of injury. Adjustments are of course made based on training goals, race schedules, and how my body feels each week. You cannot expect to perform at your 100 percent every single time. It took me a while to understand that and to learn to listen to my body.
