    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

Meet Sara Al Shamsi and Maha Al Balooshi – the new stars of Al Ain Womenʼs FC First Team. Leading the line for the womenʼs game in the UAE, both players recently came together for a photo shoot to launch this seasonʼs official new Nike kit. Stars on and off the pitch, the pair are planning on kicking off the season in style.
The women’s team has been a key supporter of women’s sports in the UAE following its launch in 2019, creating the Al Ain Sports Girls Training Centres with delegates from the UAE Football Association and the Womenʼs Football Committee. This year the team was also on hand to lend support to the UAE’s silver medal-winning team in the Special Olympics in Michigan.
Inspiring generations of football stars to come, Al Balooshi and Al Shamsi share with Emirates Woman how they got into the sport, their inspirations and their dreams for the future.
    Maha Al Balooshi

    What position do you play?
    Goalkeeper.
    What is your playing record?
I have participated in several friendly matches with the national team and official tournaments, including West Asia and friendly matches against the Maldives, Syria, Seychelles, India, Bahrain, Iraq and many other countries.
Can you outline your main accomplishments throughout your career so far?

With the UAE national team, we won gold and silver in the Abu Dhabi World Games 2019 which was a real highlight
I was also named best goalkeeper in Al Ain Championship with first place in 2020 season.
In 2022, we won the silver in the Special Olympics in the Detroit World Cup.

    Where did you train?
I started my career at the Abu Dhabi club, where I was called up for the UAE under-19 team and it was the beginning of my establishment as a national goalkeeper.
    Who are your main inspirations?
Houria Al-Tahri is the force in the world of football and has been one of the main factors in building women’s football in the UAE, which it seeks to develop day after day. She has also been one of the biggest supporters in my sports career.
What are your goals for this season?
It will be an exciting season for me, and I will strive to show my best level to protect my net and defend the Al Ain logo.
What are your hopes for the future of football in the UAE?
The dream of my life is to see women’s football developed in the Gulf, especially in the UAE, and for all professional clubs to open a women’s team to develop women’s football in the UAE.
    Sara Al Shamsi

    What position do you play?
    Central Defender.
    What is your playing record?
I’ve played in a few friendly tournaments organised by Al Ain FC but our first official season was the real start and we achieved second place that year.
I’ve also played in the Al Ain Club Championship with the participation of teams from Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain, and we won first place in it. I am also a player in the UAE national team.
Can you outline your main accomplishments throughout your career so far?
Collective prizes with the team when we get the first places in the tournaments, being central defender position it is difficult to obtain individual prizes, usually those who receive individual prizes are either attacking (scorer) or goalkeeper. I participated in Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak’s championship in jiu-jitsu and I won the gold medal in the first tournament. The training took about two months and I was very proud of that achievement. After that, I decided to focus more on team sports like basketball, volleyball, and football, and I also participated in handball tournaments.
    Where did you train?
I’ve always been sporty, running daily while at school. As I grew older, I started getting very interested in football and basketball, and I continued this passion to the university level, and after graduating from university, I joined Al Ain Club.
    Who are your main inspirations?
In terms of women, Alexa Botías is a Spanish midfielder in the Barcelona team and is considered the best football player in the world. I love learning skills from her, and I always watch her matches. I really hope in the future to reach her level and more.
What are your goals for this season?
Getting first place in the upcoming tournaments, according to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan when he said, “The second is the same as the last.” What my team and I aspire to is that we will not be in second place again and we will not accept it.

When it comes to eating with your eyes, this concept promises an experience like no other with its multi-sensory journey. How much does it cost to advertise on the world’s tallest building?

    Lifestyle

    by Sarah Joseph

If you want an advertisement on one of the most-loved landmarks in Dubai it comes at a cost.
From baby shower announcements to brand advertisements, the world’s tallest tower has seen it all. Whether it’s a new collection launch or a message to shed light on any important cause, the Burj Khalifa acts as any XL advertising platform.

Per Arabian Business, movie teasers or a message on the face of the Burj Khalifa start from a cool Dhs250,000 and that will only get you three minutes’ air time.
For an extended two three-minute impression between 8pm and 10pm, the price is increased to Dhs500,000 and for five three-minute impressions any night between 7pm until midnight, the price is Dhs1 million.
To add life to any display, music and sound can also complement the advertisement for an immersive experience, making it memorable for the audience to witness.
Recently, a three-minute advertisement with the Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was also on display, after an announcement about him being part of the Burjeel Holdings family was made.

Happy to join the @BurjeelHoldings family as their compassion drives world-class healthcare in the UAE. @drshamsheervp #BurjeelHoldings pic.twitter.com/kPhfGLtnQt
    — Shah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) September 30, 2022

However, knowing the prices is only the first step of the process. An initial request with MullenLowe must be made before getting final approval from the owner of Burj Khalifa, Emaar.
After approval, a detailed creative concept is finalized four weeks prior to the advertisement with upfront payment before it goes live.

Dubai spotlighted on ‘World’s 50 Best’ list

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris

In the world of food and beverage, Dubai is making waves on a global scale.
From cool speakeasies to fine dining havens to hidden gems, the emirate has certainly become a hub for hotspots in recent years.
While those who are from or live in the emirate will know the diverse food and beverage offerings, it may be unknown to many on a global scale. However, during this year’s World’s 50 Best Bar list, it’s safe to say Dubai was put on the map.
Three popular bars in the emirate were spotlighted on the 50 best list, whilst another narrowly missed the cut ranking in the top 100.
Taking the top spot for Dubai was Zuma – ranking globally at number 38 – a spot which has been renowned in Dubai for over 12 years and arguably largely shaped the F&B space to what we know it as today.

It was noted by World’s 50 Best that while Zuma has 20 venues the globe over, it’s the “Dubai spot of this modern Japanese izakaya that has become renowned for its cocktails and service”.
Meanwhile, a few spots down on the list at number 45 ranked Galaxy Bar, a popular secret spot in the heart of DIFC just off to the left of popular fine-dining restaurant Avli by tashsas.
It was highlighted that the bar is known for its “classical Greek architecture, with blue hues and a stunning marble bar” and was a spot that “feels sultry and intimate”.

Both bars ranked on the list last year, but this year saw a new Dubai venue added to the list.
Ranking at number 50 was the Bulgari Bar, located at the Bulgari Hotel, which was noted for the “glamorous space boasts views of the marina, custom-designed chandeliers hung in the shape of the Bulgari logo and black Portoro marble”.

Narrowly missing out on the top 50 was popular Japanese restaurant and bar Mimi Kakushi. The venue, located at the Four Seasons Jumeirah, placed at number 58 on the World’s 50 Best extended list.

Over the past 12 months, there has been a huge spotlight on the UAE and its culinary offerings with MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants launching in Abu Dhabi last year and the Michelin Guide launching in Dubai earlier this year.

Dubai seeking to add 20km to metro lines, adding 11 stations

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris

A little over a decade after first opening, the emirate of Dubai appears to be seeking to significantly extend its metro network.
According to The National, a project notice has been issued by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to contractors about widening the metro – which first launched in 2009 – network area in the emirate.
Entitled ‘Project in Dubai for Dubai Metro Green Line Extension’, the proposed extension of the city’s green line would add more than 20km more track to the metro and would include 11 new stations, terminating the line at Academic City.
Meanwhile, the metro’s red line also seems to have plans for an extension by 3.5km for the line to finish at Mirdif City Centre.
With the updates of new visas and Dubai positioning itself as a global business hub, it’s a move that would greatly help residents and tourists alike.
The current population of Dubai is estimated to be around 3.5 million, but is expected to nearly double in less than 20 years’ time.
The city estimated earlier this week the population of Dubai will reach 5.8 million by 2040.
Given the rising popularity of Dubai for business and tourism, a metro extension would be more than welcome by citizens, residents and visitors.
