The Best Lightweight Foundations on the Market

When the first blemishes sprouted upon my face in the mere fifth grade, I started stealing my mom’s concealer to cover them up. About a year and many, many zits later, my mom suggested I get a foundation to “dry out my skin.” Soon after, I got a foundation at the drugstore and never looked back. My skin preferences for the first almost-decade I wore makeup were as follows: heavy, thick, full-coverage, drying, matte. If you’ve ever listened to me talk about makeup before (I hope!), you’ll know I, and the rest of our editors here, basically despise any combination of any of those when it comes to our faces. And thankfully, the makeup industry finally agrees! Makeup doesn’t have to be sticky and gross all day long, and the handful of launches from the last year have proved it. Everything from light-coverage foundations to tinted moisturizers and CC creams to skin tints have made their way into my vanity at this point, and I figured it was mighty time to break them down.
And it’s not just a summer trend either—we’re definitely going to keep seeing lighter coverage as a preference amongst makeup artists and regular people alike. I mean, who needs a heavy foundation when they’re wearing a mask that covers half of their face? (One could argue we don’t need foundation at all or ever—to which I agree, but if you like to add a little somethin’-somethin’, that’s cool too!) Even as the summer heat departs and cool air emerges, we’re looking at a smooth canvas that doesn’t feel sticky, heavy, or uncomfortable. And here, we’re sharing our favorites for all skin types, shades, and preferences.

    Skin Tints
A skin tint is the most light-coverage of the bunch, often even leaning toward “sheer” coverage. These won’t cover your gnarly period acne, and that’s OK! They’re some of the most comfortable and (obviously) natural-looking skin products on the market. They’ll make you look extra glowy and hydrated. Plus, these have the least transfer (since they’re more minimal coverage), so you can say goodbye to maskne and masks full of makeup by the end of the day (or your 30-minute run to the grocery store).

    Perfecting Skin Tint

This is basically the skin tint to beat all skin tints if you ask me. It’s very low-coverage, but there’s a reason it’s still a Glossier best-seller after all this time. Your skin looks exactly like your skin, only better.

Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation

I’m starting off with quite a bang here because this definitely has a lot of coverage for a skin tint. It’s similar to a favorite of mine below (this is how I keep ‘em reading) in that it’s kind of a mix between a serum and a foundation; all the lightness of a serum with the coverage of a foundation. It goes on smooth and even, and you only need a little to cover your entire face because it’s very spreadable like a serum. This makes the high price tag seem much more worth it! It’s the perfect “threw it on in the morning before work, but touched up with a concealer for happy hour” situation. Buy this if you like medium-coverage without feeling like you’re wearing medium-coverage on your face.

    Charlotte Tilbury
    Hollywood Flawless Filter

While this isn’t marketed as a foundation, in the summer, I like to use it as such when I want to look glowy as all hell. I’ll apply it all over with a sponge and call it a day! It’s probably a little much for some, but it’s been an obsession of mine all summer long to look like I’m basically radiating through the screen in Zoom meetings. Note: the shade range is trash if you look at it like a foundation, but I find it to be pretty good as a highlighter. This doesn’t really add any color, mostly just sheen and glow, so there is some leeway in what shade you can use. My shade ranges quite a bit between winter and summer, and shade #4 works for me basically all year round!

    Tinted Moisturizer
These are the next in the coverage category; however, some really do pack a punch. These feel light on the skin, but they’re more likely to even out your skin tone and cover up redness than the latter options. You’ll notice maybe a little transfer in your mask, but nothing you can’t get out with a trusty Tide To-Go.

    Pretty Fresh Hyaluronic Skin Tint

I ordered this after our Editorial Assistant Jess had raved about it to me the two months of 2020 we actually spoke IRL. (Ah, the good times!) And I’m here to say I love it too! It’s very light and stays on all day, even through the sweat and humidity below my mask (and LOL, the rest of my face, let’s be honest). Colourpop’s website has a really helpful shade finder too which made it easy to make a purchase without going into a store!

    Bare Minerals
Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30

I’ve talked about this tinted moisturizer for a while. I started using it on heavy rotation at the beginning of March, and I used it basically the entire three months of quarantine just about every single day. It gave me just a hint of coverage so I felt better and more put-together while I was working without making my skin feel gross at the end of the day. Would buy over and over again.

    Maracuja Hydrating Tinted Moisturizer

Of the three of these, I would say this has the least amount of coverage, but perhaps the glowiest end result. This came out right before summer, and I’d call it a perfect summertime foundation. It’s light and natural and lets your natural skin show through. This also has a great shade range for a tinted moisturizer!

    Laura Mercier
Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector Broad Spectrum SPF 30

How could I write a roundup on tinted moisturizers without referencing quite possibly the most famous one in the world? This is a staple in makeup artists’ kits for a few reasons. Firstly, the shade range is quite inclusive, boasting 20 shades (which feels about average now, but pre-Fenty Beauty days, 20 shades for even a full-coverage foundation range was a lot *eye roll*). But quite possibly the best part of this product is that although it has quite a lot of coverage for a tinted moisturizer, it’s incredibly lightweight and natural on your skin. Very “your skin, but better” vibes.

    Lightweight Foundations
And lastly, we have the light foundations. These have a good amount of coverage (some more than others—will explain below!) without all the heaviness and transfer of a typical foundation. Again, you might notice a little transfer, but nothing you can’t get out in the wash. These are great for Zoom meetings, more “special” occasions, and basically anywhere you want a little extra coverage.

    The Lip Bar
    Skin Serum Foundation

This on-the-go foundation is friendly for all skin types. So if you lean on the more combo/oily end of the spectrum or just prefer a satin or natural skin finish over some extra dew on your face, this is a great choice. The component is effortless: simply click the bottom, and the foundation comes through the brush at the top. Another way I’ve seen people use this is applying it on their hand from the brush and then blending with a Beauty Blender to make it even more natural and sheer.

    Tinted Oil Foundation

This is one of my favorite skin purchases of the last year. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever tried. It’s a mix between a face oil and a foundation; it applies like a skincare oil but with coverage basically. And it’s phenomenal. My best skin days come when I’m wearing this all over my face. It’s everything I could ever want in a foundation: light, glowy, light-to-medium-coverage, and natural. I will never be without this.

    Plain Jane Beauty
    Get Loose Powder Foundation

Light coverage doesn’t have to come from a liquid! This is obviously oily-skin-friendly, but reviews say it’s light enough that it looks gorgeous on dry skin as well. A powder is a great way to add a little coverage to your face without going overboard. This can be built up to a more full-coverage depending on the brush you use, which makes the product a pretty good bang for its buck—it’s almost like getting a couple different foundations in one! Use a fluffy brush for something light, or buff it on with a dense duo-fiber brush. More

This Product Made Me Throw Out All My Makeup Wipes

If there’s one thing I’m an absolute sucker for, it’s skincare. If it promises glowing, even skin, I’ll try getting tiny needles rolled into my face or washing my face with honey; and if a new product is released with stellar reviews? Well, sign me up.But the one skincare trend I never got into? Double cleansing.
Double cleansing came onto the scene a few years ago with glowing reviews from just about everyone who has ever worn makeup. It was touted as the most sure-fire way to make sure every last stitch of makeup was removed from your face without stripping it dry. Its appeal is evident, but for whatever reason, I never got into it. I swear by my Clarisonic and figured that that did the job—but to my absolute dismay, it turns out I was wrong.
To double-cleanse, the rules are pretty simple: first, wash your face with an oil-based cleanser or cleansing balm, then follow with your regular, water-based cleanser. Beginning with an oil-based cleanser ensures that your makeup is melted off before you wash your face, leaving it squeaky-clean in the best way possible. But honestly, said cleansers felt like they cost more money than necessary, and when push came to shove, I removed my makeup before my water-based cleanser with a good ole’ makeup wipe.
But then our resident beauty guru, Beth, gave me the recommendation to try the Good Molecules Instant Cleansing Balm. She promised that it would change my face-washing game, but the biggest selling point is that it runs at the same price as a couple of Starbucks orders—so I figured, what’s to lose?

The first time I used this, I immediately regretted every night of my previous life, which included face-washing that I thought was adequate, but so clearly was not. Upon rubbing a pea-sized amount of this onto my face, my full face of makeup—foundation, bronzer, mascara, eyebrow pencil—had literally melted off. At first, I looked like this picture of Mulan’s Matchmaker, but a quick once-over with water made it all disappear. After my second cleanse, my face felt the cleanest it ever has, without the dried-out feeling that makeup wipes are known to cause (my face is incredibly dry, so it’s been reaping the benefits of this ever since).
I’ve continued using this product every night after I’ve worn makeup for about a month now, and it has continued to get a 5/5 star rating from me. Whether I’m wearing super natural, no-makeup makeup or a full face for my socially-distanced birthday, it leaves my skin as soft and clean as a baby’s. Not only is this better for my skin than my previously-loved makeup wipes, but it’s better for the environment too, and given I’ve hardly made a dent in the tub over the past month, I’d guess this is much more cost-effective as well—it’s a win-win-win. Also, my skin has been less irritated than ever, and I have infinitely less clogged pores—and since I changed nothing else in my routine, I’d chalk it up to this.
Never did I think I’d have a cleansing balm holy grail, but this has made its way onto my top shelf, and it’s here to stay.

7 Nail Polish Ideas to Try This Month

We often talk about the transition period between summer and fall. When it’s blazing hot outside, but all you want is a spiced chai latte (hot, no more iced), a pumpkin candle, and a cozy cardigan wrapped around your body. As we enter August, this feeling begins, and while it is likely the most prevalent with fashion (if I see one more pair of linen shorts, I’ll lose it), I feel like it almost as much with my nail colors. Don’t get me wrong: I am a fiend for a bright, bold nail color every day of the week. Lime green? You got it. Bright yellow French tips? Already done it. Purple one hand, pink the other? Did it before Kylie. I love bright colors through to my soul, but as my heart yearns for cool weather, Taylor Swift on repeat, and scary books and movies, the last thing I want to see on my fingers is a bright summery shade. So, there you have: the in-between seasons, transitional nail colors you’ll love rocking all August and September long. Snag one of these polishes for your next at-home mani, and you’re good to go for all of your Folklore listening seshes—look like fall even when it looks like summer outside.

Here’s What I Think You’d Find in Blake Lively’s Makeup Bag

The film that made me utterly in awe of Blake Lively is without a doubt A Simple Favor. Obviously, I’ve seen Gossip Girl, Green Lantern, The Town—but the first time I saw Blake Lively be an absolute badass, making out with both Anna Kendrick and Henry Golding… well, she became one of my favorite people in Hollywood. From what I can see, Blake is down to earth, hilarious, and never takes herself too seriously. (Not to mention, I am a major fan of her husband, but almost an even more major fan of them together.) When it comes to her style, I am equally, if not more, in awe. When I look at Blake Lively, all I can think is summer. Beyond her chic menswear looks and tailored pieces, her beauty looks emulate a bronzed summer goddess, complete with her golden blonde hair that’s always in the most perfect wave. She is a favorite amongst all of us at The Everygirl (fun fact: we met Henry Golding a few summers ago at a press event for Crazy Rich Asians, and one of the first questions out of our mouths was “What’s Blake like?”), so she had to be on our list to discuss what’s in her makeup bag—the real stuff and what I like to think she uses.
Regardless of your shared affinity for Blake, these products are perfect for creating a glowy, natural summer look.

    Juvia’s Place
    Shade Stick Foundation

Blake shared a picture of her organized beauty drawer on her Instagram story last spring, and one of the first products to jump out at me was Cle de Peau’s concealer. This concealer is basically iconic in the beauty world, and it looked like Blake had every shade… which isn’t very many. In my dreams, Blake has ditched this concealer in favor of something that actually caters to women of all skin tones, like this stick from Juvia’s Place. While it’s technically a foundation, the stick component makes it really easy to use as a concealer. Blake likely enjoys the Cle de Peau because it’s full-coverage without having to use much product and is really easy for touch-ups, and this has the same claims (just with a significantly better shade range and price point).

    Kristofer Buckle
Full Disclosure Scalp Cream and Powder Duo

Blake’s makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle has his own line of products that he uses on Blake, along with other brands such as L’Oreal Paris. This scalp powder is basically everything for slicked back buns and ponytails. It fills in the sparse hairs around your hairline to make you look like you have thicker, fuller hair. It’s basically the hair version of a brow powder. Blake loves slick ponytails and buns with her menswear looks, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a product she kept in her arsenal.

    LOreal Paris
    Colour Riche Original Satin Lipstick

In Blake’s “73 Questions” with “Vogue,” she said L’Oreal’s Colour Riche lip gloss was her favorite, but I’d also be surprised if she didn’t have a few of her perfect nude lipsticks floating around in her bag too. Even after trying super high-end formulas, I can attest that L’Oreal makes some of the best lip products in the game for less than $10. This line is full of satin shades that are comfortable and make your lips look plump and hydrated, but they also have tons of matte and shiny lip options too.

    The Lip Bar
    Fresh Glow Duo

Even for her Met Gala looks, Blake looks polished and put-together, but with just a hint of a bronze to her skin and a light blush. It makes her face look dimensional and natural, even when she’s wearing a full face of foundation on a red carpet. This duo from The Lip Bar makes it infinitely easy to get a glow without needing a ton of products. The top product is a luminous bronzer, and the bottom is a highlighting blush (nixing the need to add a highlighter to the cheekbones on top). The five available shades all have corresponding blushes and bronzers that will look impeccable when paired together.

    Charlotte Tilbury
    Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder

Blake had a lot of Charlotte Tilbury in her makeup drawer, which is extra exciting since all of our editors are big CT fans too. In the center of Blake’s drawer lies Charlotte’s Airbrush Setting Powder, an ultra-lightweight, natural-finish powder that lightly sets without adding dryness to your skin. Blake knows the importance of keeping your makeup on all day, but she definitely seems to like a radiant face. This powder is special in that you can layer it on throughout the day to keep oils at bay, and it never gets cakey or powder-y looking. It’s one of the most iconic products in Charlotte’s line.

Mineral Sunscreen Lotion for Face—SPF 30

Another product I saw tucked away in Blake’s makeup storage was this affordable face sunscreen. Like I said, Blake is a summer goddess, so she knows the importance of wearing her sunscreen every single day. I’m going off in a tangent for a second, but how cool that even with all of her fame and wealth, Blake is just as thrilled about CeraVe as the rest of us. I mean, we can’t blame her; CeraVe is known for dermatologist-recommended products that we can easily add to our Target grocery order pick-up.

    Tower28 Beauty
    SuperDew Shimmer-Free Highlight Balm

If Blake is wearing a highlighter, it’s something natural and skin-like, similar to this one from Tower28. This has no shimmer at all and just adds a dew to your face. Yes, it’s a little tacky, but it doesn’t feel sticky or heavy on your face either. It’s actually a godsend for anyone with dry skin because it moisturizes on top of looking dewy. It’s the closest Blake can get to looking like she did running on the soccer field in “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.”

    Maybelline
    Great Lash Mascara

In an interview with Refinery29, Buckle explained that Blake often prefers a brown mascara to look a little more natural. He also said that she isn’t a snob about pricey products—she loves inexpensive beauty as much as the high-end stuff. In Blake’s makeup drawer, she had a tube of Diorshow. While I’m sure that is Blake’s fave, she has likely grabbed a tube of Great Lash on an impromptu drugstore run once or twice, and as much of a nostalgic choice it is, it’s actually a great mascara. I’m on the train of rediscovering Great Lash in 2020.

    Sea Texture Spray

OK, I know, I know, I’m supposed to be talking about makeup, but I can’t talk about Blake Lively’s beauty routine without bringing up her tousled waves. In interviews, Blake has said she loves creating heatless waves by putting her hair in a ballerina bun while it’s wet and letting it dry in that style. The best way to keep a heatless style, or any waves in general, is a texture spray. This beachy one from Verb adds flexible hold and texture to wavy hair to make you look extra beachy.

    AJ Crimson
    Highlight and Contour Compact

Blake had a few contouring and highlighting products in her drawer, but for on the go, something that’s all-in-one is probably a go-to for her. This one from celebrity MUA AJ Crimson is compact and easy to use—containing two blendable shades you can apply and blend right with your fingers, a sponge, or a brush. These also come in other shades, or you can purchase just your contour or highlight shade as a single.

    Shu Uemura
    Eyelash Curler

If we’re talking iconic beauty products, this one is most certainly at the top of the list. A good eyelash curler is one of the most underrated parts of your makeup routine. Not having nicely curled lashes makes putting mascara on a bit of a pain if your lashes are straight. This is another pick I saw in Blake’s makeup drawer, but I was beyond happy to recommend it. This is considered a secret weapon in the kits of makeup artists to open up the eyes and make mascara pop. What can I say? Blake has good taste. More

My Favorite Makeup Brands for Black Women

Makeup has always been something I’ve been interested in. I remember in my college years watching makeup tutorial videos on YouTube and being in awe of the colors and techniques used by these makeup artists. Over the years, how I use makeup has evolved from bold colored eyeshadows to enhancing the features I already have with a more natural look. The one thing that was a source of frustration for me was the lack of makeup products on the market specifically for Black women. I remember, on several occasions, having to mix and blend a few different shades to get one that matched my skin tone. As a young adult in college, I don’t know if I truly grasped the reality of what was happening when I walked into the beauty section of a store and couldn’t find products that worked for my skin type or color. Now that I’m older, thankfully I have more options to choose from—and newer brands are launching products that are inclusive of more skin types and shades.
If you’re a Black woman interested in makeup, below are a few favorites that you might want to try.

    1. Glossier
If you’re into more cream-based products, Glossier may be your new best friend. Cream-based products are best for drier skin types or for women who may want a touch of that dewy look to their skin. These product types absorb into your skin better than powder which can often sit on top of your skin.
Another reason I really like Glossier is how inclusive they are on their website. When looking at different lipstick colors, they show women with different skin tones wearing the product, so that you can better imagine how the lip color will look on you. That’s huge in my book, especially when we’re doing most of our shopping online.

    Perfecting Skin Tint Concealer

Best review: “So as many have said this has no coverage, but I love it. It really brings something to the skin that is hard to describe. But I love using it every day.”

    2. Tarte Cosmetics
I was introduced to Tarte when I was making the switch to cruelty-free makeup. For the last five years or so, Tarte has been a tried and true favorite makeup brand for me—I love their powder, concealer, lip gloss, and blush, I really stand by Tarte and their products.
Even just browsing their products while writing this article made my heart go pitter-patter and my debit card run away screaming.

    Shape Tape Concealer

Best review: “I love that this comes in so many color options that match foundation shades. It gives great coverage, and you get a ton of product for the cost.”

    3. Fenty Beauty
Rihanna as a person and an artist is fantastic, bold, unapologetic, and downright gorgeous, so that seems like enough reason to try her makeup brand Fenty. But her products really stand out amongst the others because of how inclusive the share range is.
The Fenty Soft Matte Foundation is a favorite of mine because I have oily skin, and by the end of the day, my face can look quite shiny. Using this foundation takes care of that problem, yet it’s still lightweight enough that I don’t feel as though I’m wearing a lot of makeup or a heavy product. All hail Fenty by Rihanna!

    Fenty Beauty by Rihanna
Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

Best review: “This is my ALL-TIME favorite foundation. Does not need a primer or powder to look flawless. Everyone always asks me what kind of foundation that I use because it just looks THAT GOOD. 10/10 recommend.”

    Fenty Beauty by Rihanna
    Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer

Best review: “This bronzer is AMAZING for people with dry skin. Usually bronzer dries my face even more and does not blend well, but this is amazing! So creamy, light, and buildable.”

    4. IT Cosmetics
One of the best-selling IT Cosmetics products is their Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer. Since it is a full-coverage concealer, it might feel a little thicker than the other concealers you use—but it is still worth checking this one out.
Just like Glossier, IT Cosmetics is another brand that has great cream-based products, so that if you’re looking for a product that not only covers up or enhances but also moisturizes, IT Cosmetics may be one you one to look into.

    IT Cosmetics
    Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer

Best review: “One of the best beauty products I’ve ever purchased. It blends seamlessly and is highly moisturizing for the drier skin around my eyes (I’m in my mid 40s). You barely need any—it’s CRAZY how little you need.”

    IT Cosmetics
    Pillow Lips Collagen-Infused Lipstick

Best review: “This feels incredible! Within five minutes of opening my box and trying this on, I was back here on the website ordering two more colors!”

Post-lockdown: Are you preparing yourself for ‘life part two’?

Dr. Adnan Tahir discusses coming out of lockdown and the concept of ‘life part two’ and how now could be the time to take the jump to do something you’ve wanted to do for a while.
As we emerge from lockdown, a lot of us are reflecting on how these past months have affected us and what we’ve learnt. What’s been the silver lining of this challenging time?
It seems like we’ve all been on a rollercoaster ride – from the lows of separation from loved ones to the highs of resuming the everyday activities that we previously took for granted. It’s no wonder that many of us are feeling bewildered and wondering, “What comes next?”.
    ‘Life part two’

While life hasn’t got back to full speed, my advice would be to view this quiet time as the silver lining. It’s a space to reflect on how you want your life to look going forward and to prepare yourself for ‘Life part two’.
    Small steps to big changes
As part of this reflection, why not start a new regime of healthy living where even small adjustments paying dividends.

Swap sugary snacks for fresh fruit, cut down on the carbs and eat meat-free at least once a week. Similarly, we are blessed in the Emirates to have limitless exercise choices. With pools available in every community, a plethora of exercise classes and gyms and running tracks in scenic places, there’s no excuse not to get fit!
In addition, don’t forget your mental wellbeing. Check out mindfulness apps, get back into prayer or mediation if that’s your thing, or simply sit and enjoy the slower pace of life.
    Making your dream a reality
And if you’ve always dreamed of having a cosmetic procedure, now is the perfect time to make it a reality. Here are a few of my most popular procedures, available in the luxurious surroundings of Maison Lutétia at Dubai Festival City.

    Botox and fillers
If you want a natural-looking pick-me-up, Botox and fillers could be just what you’re looking for. Botox will relax and smooth lines, while fillers add volume, altering the contours of your face and filling in wrinkles. Both procedures offer a subtle transformation, lending you a more youthful look.
    Liposuction
Sometimes it doesn’t matter how hard you exercise, you will always be stuck with stubborn areas of fat. This is where liposuction comes in, removing unwanted fat and sculpting your body for an enhanced natural appearance.
    Rhinoplasty
If you’re unhappy with the look of your nose, you’ve probably found that this affects your whole body image and self-confidence. A rhinoplasty in the hands of a skilled surgeon could be the answer, transforming both your looks and self-esteem.
    Tummy tuck
A tummy tuck is a popular choice to get rid of excess fat and loose skin from the abdominal area, and tighten muscles as well. Women who have lost large amounts of weight or who have undergone pregnancy are ideal candidates for this procedure, which can restore their self-confidence after massive life changes.
    Breast lift
Another popular choice for women post-pregnancy is the breast lift, which will rectify sagging or uneven breasts, reduced volume and sagging. This transformative procedure will promote a more youthful appearance and help you look your best in and out of clothes.
    Keep it simple
Self-improvement doesn’t have to be complicated. By taking a few steps to improve our day-to-day lives or simply reaching out to fulfil those dreams, you can become the person you were meant to be.
For further information above any of the above procedures, call (04) 706 4000 or visit www.adnan-tahir.com.

The Top 5 Beauty Products I’ve Tried This Summer

I’ll be honest: I have tried a lot of products in the last few months. My taxes were slightly less than I expected, and I stopped ordering a $14 cocktail multiple nights a week. But not everything was created equal. Some of the products I tried were absolute garbage (a new foundation I tried made my face break out in the worst break out I’ve ever had… no thanks), but some have officially made it to holy grail status. Below, I’m sharing the products that have totally made their way into my everyday makeup basket, whether for daily wear, just taking some selfies, or the first time I got to see my friends again (socially distant, but oh so glorious regardless). They’re perfect for mask-wear, but also just lounging around the house.

    Glowy Makeup Serum

I snagged this in Sephora’s Spring Beauty Event in May the second it went back in stock. I’ve loved every single thing I’ve tried from Laneige, and I was intrigued by the idea of their first foray into a skincare/makeup hybrid product. I was not disappointed. I use this as a makeup primer, but I’ve even used it on days that I’m not wearing makeup just to look glowy without any coverage. The glow comes from the texture of the product (a light, liquid/serum that comes out of a dropper) rather than a bunch of glitter or shimmers all over your face. It does have a hint of a pearl, but I can’t see them at all on my face once it’s blended in. Oh, and as a primer it works wonders. I’ve worn this on days I know I’ll be wearing my mask for a long time in the heat, and my makeup doesn’t budge.
I have combination skin, but I can get away with using this all over my face, so I honestly think it would work on all skin types.

    Elysium Naturals Co.
    Whipped Shea Body Butter

I raved about this on Instagram the second it came in the mail. I was looking for a thick body butter to rub all over my legs after shaving, but nothing has ever been the right consistency for me. I love the look of a body oil, but I hate the process of putting it on; and a body butter moisturizes, but it rarely gives me the glow I want. This product is the perfect medium between an ultra-moisturizing body cream and a body oil. I put it all over (arms, shoulders, chest, legs, butt, feet—legit, this goes everywhere), and I get compliments every time that my skin looks glowy and hydrated. I purchased the “sweet mango” scent, and it’s great for summer. The scent lingers, but I don’t notice it inferring with my perfume either. I am dying to try the orangesicle and the lavender vanilla too!

    Tower 28 Beauty
BeachPlease Tinted Lip + Cheek Balm

Next to eyeshadow, blush is one of the most fun products out there. It’s an easy way to have a little extra fun with color without going full blue eyeshadow. And of course, I’m opting for more cream cheek products than ever to keep my skin looking glowy and natural. These ones from Tower 28 are some of the best I’ve tried. I have the shade “Golden Hour,” a terracotta orange that blends out to look like a light orange on the skin. If the idea of orange blush scares you, don’t let it; it actually looks really natural on my warm skin tone—like I’m actually blushing. But it’s also available in two other shades that I absolutely am dying to get my hands on: a neutral pink/mauve and a bright, summer coral-pink.

    Charlotte Tilbury
    Airbrush Matte Bronzer

Charlotte Tilbury just gets me sometimes, IDEK. I’ve tried a few new bronzers this summer, but this one… Y’all, this bronzer is one of the best powder products I’ve ever tried on my face. I spent all of last summer absolutely raving about the Fenty Beauty bronzers. And trust me: I still love that bronzer with my whole heart. But when I wasn’t wearing foundation or was just wearing a concealer, it didn’t blend as easily. I love the look of nothing but bronzer on the skin in the summer—your skin looks even and flat without any coverage. And CT’s new bronzer is perfect for that. I like to think this is because it’s the exact same formula as Charlotte’s iconic Airbrush Flawless Finish setting powder, so it’s made to be worn on bare skin and reapplied throughout the day.
If the price of this bronzer is holding you back, I feel you. I ultimately decided to try it because I love that this is a refillable pan. Once I hit pan (or want a lighter shade in the winter), I can just replace the pan without buying a whole new package. It’s less wasteful and cost-effective, which I absolutely love. This pan is also absolutely massive (see image above next to my Fenty bronzer). I have used this every single day since I got it, and I cannot imagine going through it in my entire lifetime. I’ve only had this just over a month, and I think I’ve already used it 55 times. For reference, I got the third shade, “Tan,” and I am currently a Fenty 330 and use the “I$land Ting” bronzer!

    JD Glow Cosmetics
    Galaxy Shadows

I considered adding these as an honorable mention because some of the shades I have are sold out, but these actually might be #1 right now, so I gotta tell it like it is. I’m an eyeshadow fiend, but as my collection grows, I am strategic about finding shades and textures that are really unique. These Galaxy shadows are basically as unique as it gets. First of all, the price is absolutely right. These pans are huge, so you’ll never run out while getting a great deal per gram. But what really stands out about these are the texture. These are all duochromes. I have “Peachy Keen,” which at first glance looks like a light peach shimmer, but it shifts to a gorgeous green. I recently used this to recreate this gorgeous picture of Gigi Hadid, and it was basically the exact tone. I also have “Prismatic,” a green-blue duochrome, which I’m wearing in this picture (shoutout to my hairstylist for my hair looking as good as it ever will in this picture).
Obviously, I have brighter shades, but I’m excited to try some more neutral ones. I genuinely don’t want to wear any other shadows right now! JD Glow is a Black-owned indie beauty line by two BFFs in Baton Rouge, L.A., which only makes me more excited to buy more of their incredible products. More
