    Welcome to ‘The Bravery Issue’.

In this issue, we celebrate bravery in all its forms, from taking a leap of faith to daring to be different and striking out on your own.
For our cover shoot we partnered with Fendi, a brand known for breaking the mould and carving out its own design direction, just like our cover star Khulood Thani.

In this issue we also speak to Sheikha Amal Al Maktoum who teaches us what it takes to take a leap of faith and launch your own brand and entrepreneur Ghizlan Guenez demonstrates the bravery of starting again and Captain Salma Al Baloushi, the first Emirati female to rise to First Officer’s rank at Etihad, speaks to us about what it takes to become a woman of firsts in.

We also have exclusive interviews with Elizabeth von der Goltz – Global Buying Director at NET-A-PORTER, Holli Rogers – CEO Browns Fashion & Chief Brand Officer at Farfetch and Kate Blythe-Pearson Chief Marketing Officer at Mecca, all incredible women demonstrating bravery to follow their gut in both business and life.
‘Sharp Solution’ and ‘Brave Beauty’ take a look at a more extreme approach to your usual beauty routine while LIYA and Marei1998 deliver daring new design aesthetics worth investing in for FW20. In ‘The Brave’ we spoke to some of the most incredible women we know to ask what bravery means to them.
For many, the bravery to start, to try and to dare, even if this leads to failure is still an achievement that should be championed.
“If he fails, at least fails while daring greatly.” – Theodore Roosevelt.

‘Pain we’ve never felt before’: Chrissy Teigen announces loss of her unborn baby

Chrissy Teigen has heartbreakingly announced the loss of her unborn baby boy.
The 34-year-old had recently revealed she was admitted to hospital due to excessive bleeding – she even had a “huge clot” at one point. After receiving a few blood transfusions over multiple days and treatment in hospital, Chrissy and husband John Legend sadly lost their unborn baby.

Sharing photos on Instagram, the 34-year-old announced her miscarriage in a heartbreaking describing it as “pain we’ve never felt before”.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she said. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”

Chrissy went on to say that she and John never usually decide on their babies’ name until they are born, but had been calling their unborn baby boy ‘Jack’. She also added he would always be a part of their “little family”.
“To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive,” she said. “We will always love you.”
In her post, Chrissy also thanked everyone for their well-wishes and prayers during this difficult time.
“We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience,” she added, ending the caption. “But everyday can’t be full of sunshine.
“On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”

Starbucks cancels this popular festive drink in the Middle East

We all know that this festive season is going to be a little different from the previous years, but we still rely on certain seasonal traditions to get us in the mood. One of them is a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks.
Whether you’re a fan or not, just seeing it advertised at the popular coffee destination is enough to make you mentally countdown to the holidays. However, this year there will be no pumpkin spice lattes in the Middle East as Starbucks has decided stock toffee nut instead.

Understandably, coffee lovers on social media needed a reason for the cancellation of their favourite autumn beverage and the brand responded on Facebook, saying:
“Unfortunately, PSL (pumpkin spice latte) won’t be available this year due to Business and Operations reasons. We encourage you to stay tuned on our channels for our upcoming drinks.”

Sold in more than 50 countries, the Starbucks pumpkin spice latte is one of the biggest sellers for the coffee chain and according to Forbes brings in about Dh367 million each season.
On the bright side, this is a great opportunity for you to discover a new seasonal drink. Keto Bowl makes a healthier version of a pumpkin spice latte by using pumpkin puree and coconut milk, but if you want to indulge then head to Black Tap for Thanksgiving to enjoy a pumpkin pie milkshake.
