This Dubai restaurant week has coincided perfectly with the long weekend

If you’re at a loss at what to do this upcoming long weekend, it may be the perfect time to explore some new (or perhaps not so new…) restaurants in Dubai.
In the most perfect timing ever, Jumeriah Restaurant Week is back as part of Dubai’s Summer Surprises for 2020 which you can enjoy up until August 22.

Restaurant-goers can dine at some of Jumeriah Group’s most popular restaurants with three-course curated menus for a discounted price. And, of course, there are an array of different cuisines on offer.
With prices ranging from Dhs120 to Dhs250 per person at the selected restaurants, it’s the ideal time to try out a new spot that you haven’t before or even return to an old favourite.

Here’s some of our favourite Jumeirah restaurants which are taking part in Restaurant Week.
    Rockfish

    Dhow and Anchor

    The Duck Hook

    Trattoria Toscana

    Lah Lah

To see the full list of participating restaurants visit the Jumeirah website.

Lebanese designer Elie Saab’s message of hope in the wake of the Beirut blast

As the city of Beirut continues to recover following the devastating explosion that occurred two weeks ago, fashion designer Elie Saab has shared a message of hope to the people of Lebanon.
In a candid interview with Reuters, Saab, whose home was destroyed in the blast, recalled the moment he saw his son injured from the explosion.

“I saw my son covered in blood; I could not believe it,” he said. “I said OK, he is wounded, but it was OK, it was just cuts to his head and arms.”
However, further recounting the moment Saab admitted that while it was 15 minutes it “felt like two days long”.

“It was not just because it is a father and son thing, it was because we all work together like one family under one roof,” he added.
As a result of the blast, Saab’s office and headquarters – which has 200 members of staff working at the HQ – were also badly damaged.

The designer, who founded his eponymous label in 1982 at the height of Lebanon’s civil war (1975 – 1990), likened the atmosphere in Beirut post-blast to that time.
“It was the same smell, the same dust, the broken glass. Honestly, we did not want to relive this and it was not necessary,” he told Reuters.
While the 56-year-old designer admits it has been a “huge setback”, he offered a hopeful message to the people of Beirut.
“This is a huge setback but we have to be like Beirut – every time dusting itself off and returning to the way it was,” he said. “We must go on … It does not become us as Lebanese to give up.”
However, it did pay tribute to those who lost their lives saying “the biggest loss is the people you can’t bring back”.
The devasting explosion killed 178, has left 6,000 injured and damaged entire communities in Beirut.

Uber service is finally available in this UAE city

It is hard to remember a time when Uber wasn’t around, but many forget that the ride-hailing service only launched in 2009 and came to Dubai in 2013 and Abu Dhabi in 2018. However, now we can’t imagine being without this convenient pick-up option to take us anywhere we want to go in just a few clicks.
This convenient personal chauffer app is available in most major cities around the world and has now finally launched in Sharjah making it even easier for commuters to travel into Dubai as well as other cities in the UAE.

Just like the Dubai users, riders in Sharjah will have access to UberSelect, Uber’s most affordable service, once you download the app and add your details.
This move is also great news for potential new drivers who might’ve struggled with a drop in riders when everyone was working from home.

The latest launch is part of Uber’s ongoing efforts to continue providing more access to Uber’s technology and in line with the company’s commitment to invest in the region’s potential for growth by expanding and serving more of the community and creating additional earning opportunities for drivers during a challenging time.
With that in mind, you can feel comfortable knowing that Uber has rolled out enhanced safety features to give everyone using the app a peace of mind. From mandating masks for both riders and drivers, and offering them the flexibility to cancel a ride without incurring a penalty, if they’re not wearing a mask, to regular sanitisation of the cars and making hand sanitizer available for riders.
“COVID-19 has presented unprecedented challenges, but as we work towards accelerating recovery, we’re focusing on our strengths – offering safe, reliable, and affordable mobility solutions and investing in securing the livelihoods of drivers by creating additional earning opportunities,” says Rifad Mahasneh, General Manager, GCC & Levant at Uber MENA.

When you’re as famous as Kylie Jenner is, there’s no doubt people are going to talking about you. However, it’s when false stories and rumours start to circulate that things start to become problematic.
While the Kardashian-Jenners aren’t normally ones to ever address fake news about them, the makeup mogul wasn’t about to let the most recent false rumour about her to spread.

In a recent photo the 23-year-old posted to Instagram, Jenner initially captioned the post with the white heart and gold stars emojis which she changed to “brown eyed girl” moments later.

However, a doctored post began circulating online claiming Jenner had actually captioned the post “brown-skinned girl”. Of course, the post was fake.
The Kylie Cosmetics CEO provided proof that the post was fake on her Instagram story.

“Here’s the fake version that everyone believed,” she said, showing two side-by-side shots of the doctored Instagram post. “Saw online someone Photoshopped this photo I posted to change my caption from ‘brown eyed girl’ to ‘brown skinned girl’. I never said this.”
It just goes to show, don’t believe everything you see online…
