Video: Sheikha Hissa Al Maktoum celebrates major victory at UK racing event

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

The Dubai royal family is known for their affinity and passion for horses, some of which has largely been shaped by the late His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the former Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
The late sheikh was also the founder of Shadwell Racing, a global racing and breeding enterprise involving both Thoroughbred and Arabian horses, which has seen success worldwide.
His Highness’ legacy lived on at the recent Sussex Stakes in the UK, where stallion Baaeed was victorious and is regarded as perhaps one of the best racehorses in the world.

The late sheikh’s daughter, Her Highness Sheikha Hissa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was at the race reverently watching on as Baaeed triumphantly crossed the finish line in Group 1.
“For me and my family he means the world,” Sheikha Hissa told Racing TV following Baaeed’s victory, adding that it was a special moment to see the racehorse’s triumph, particularly as he’s from the lineage her later father bred.
“It’s good to see one of our best horses coming from that lineage that my father worked hard on,” she said.

Celebrating the victory of four-year-old Baaeed with Sheikh Hissa was jockey Jim Crowley and trainer William Haggas.
Also close to Sheikha Hissa was her father, whom she paid tribute to with a badge of his photo on her pale pink abaya.
We’re sure her father would be incredibly proud of his daughter as she continues to champion his legacy.

Everything we know about Saudi Arabia’s 170km-long mirrored skyscraper

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

Think big and go even bigger appears the be the mantra Saudi Arabia is following at the moment.
The Kingdom’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud unveiled plans for one of the most ambitious architectural projects on record – a 170km-long skyscraper.
Set to be known as ‘The Line’, the project will be built in the region of Neom, an area of major development in the Kingdom spearheaded by the Saudi royal.
Described as a “civilizational revolution” by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the infrastructure is set to be 200 metres wide, 500 metres above sea level and over 170km long and will have a mirrored exterior.

Aiming to eventually accommodate over nine million residents, The Line will “first based on a radical change in urban planning”.
“The designs revealed today for the city’s vertically layered communities will challenge the traditional flat, horizontal cities and create a model for nature preservation and enhanced human livability,” Saudi’s Crown Prince said.
“We cannot ignore the livability and environmental crises facing our world’s cities, and NEOM is at the forefront of delivering new and imaginative solutions to address these issues,” he added. “Neom is leading a team of the brightest minds in architecture, engineering and construction to make the idea of building upwards a reality.”
The mega-city will be emission-free, road-free and car-free, with a new approach to urban design giving residents the ability to move seamlessly in three dimensions – up, down or across. The concept as a whole was described by the Crown Prince as ‘Zero Gravity Urbanism’.
The entire project of Neom was first announced in 2017 and the first section is set to open in 2025. Located north of Tabuk, Neom covers a total area of 26,500 km2 and is set to be fully sustainable using solar power, will feature a new high-tech city and much more.

Kylie, Kim K call out controversial Instagram update: ‘Stop trying to be TikTok’

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris

If you’re an avid social media user, you’ll be well aware of the recent updates to Instagram and if you’re not, in short, the app has seemingly become remarkably similar to its competitor TikTok.
The interface of Instagram and scroll option has largely stayed the same since its launch back in 2013 and has first and foremost been a photo-sharing app.
However, the recent update has seen the layout change to prioritising video – namely Instagram Reels, which launched in 2020 – just like TikTok.
It’s a change which hasn’t been welcomed by the Instagram community with two of its biggest users, Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, calling out the controversial update.
Both the beauty entrepreneurs and sisters reshared a post on the social media platform, criticising Instagram for “trying to be TikTok”.

“Make Instagram Instagram again (stop trying to be TikTok. I just want to see cute photos of my friends). Sincerely, everyone,” the message read.
It’s not the first time Jenner has spoken out against social media updates with it then having a huge knock-on effect.
The beauty mogul was previously an avid Snapchat user, but back in 2018, she admitted she didn’t use it anymore following its redesign. Subsequently, Snapchat’s stock dropped eight per cent in one day and it reportedly lost a market value of over $1 billion.
Given both Jenner and Kardashian have huge followings – 361 million and 326 million, respectively – speaking out is bound to have some sort of response, and indeed it appears it has.
Following the two sisters’ criticism over the updates, Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri, took to Twitter to share a video addressing the backlash admitting the new design wasn’t “good yet”.

👋🏼 There’s a lot happening on Instagram right now.
I wanted to address a few things we’re working on to make Instagram a better experience.
Please let me know what you think 👇🏼 pic.twitter.com/x1If5qrCyS
    — Adam Mosseri (@mosseri) July 26, 2022

He also insisted that Instagram would “continue to support photos”. “It’s part of our heritage,” he added. “You know I love photos. I know a lot of you out there love photos too.”
However, moving forward he did admit Instagram would become more video-centric.
“That said, I need to be honest — I do believe more and more of Instagram is going to become video over time,” he said.
So, despite the criticism, it seems the TikTok-era of Instagram is well and truly here to stay.
