10 celebrities who became mums over the age of 40

    Lifestyle

The clock ticks is a phrase women often hear throughout various stages in their lives. A societal pressure that becomes a subconscious thought that we tend to apply to our life goals. The need to achieve career-wise, find the right man and be financially stable before 30 is something many of us are programmed towards.
Yet in 2022 there are a variety of options available to women to become mothers, from egg-freezing, IVF, surrogates and adoption. All of these options are allowing women to live their lives how they see fit, without the worry of a clock ticking or the word ‘geriatric’ being used negatively.
In particular, there are many celebrities in the spotlight shattering stereotypes and societal expectations, giving those who are feeling that pressure a glimmer of hope and proving that life does not stop at 40, it only begins.
With that, here’s some of the most high-profile women who became mums after 40.
    Naomi Campbell
After beginning a modelling career at age 15 and establishing herself within the industry for over four decades, Naomi Campbell welcomed her first first child last year at age 50. The supermodel and businesswoman announced the birth of her daughter on Instagram in May 2021.
    Cameron Diaz

This award-winning actress, producer, model, author, and entrepreneur welcomed her first child with musician husband Benji Madden from Good Charlotte in January 2020. Raddix Madden was born in December 2019 when Diaz was 47 years old.
    Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek has previously spoken about how she is glad she made the decision to wait to become a mother until her 40s. According to Hayek, it gave her the opportunity to focus on her career, and believes she’s a better mum for it. The actress and producer gave birth to her daughter Valentina in 2007 when she was 41.
    Madonna

The Queen of Pop had her first child Lourde in 1996 when she was 38 and four years later, in 2000, she gave birth to her son Rocco, aged 42. Since then Madonna has adopted four more children.
    Halle Berry

When discussing having children in her 40s Halle Berry has said that women know themselves better than anyone. The actress gave birth to her first child, daughter Nahla, at age 41, and her second child, son Maceo when she was 47.
    Nicole Kidman

Before her divorce from Tom Cruise in 2001, Nicole Kidman adopted Connor, 26, and Isabella, 28 with the Mission Impossible actor. After marrying Keith Urban in 2006, Kidman gave birth to her daughter Sunday Rose in 2008 when she was 40. Two years later, in 2010, the couple welcomed their second child via surrogate, a daughter named Faith.
    Janet Jackson

In 2017, Janet Jackson gave birth to her first child, son Eissa Al Mana, who she described as the “greatest gift of all”. Janet was 50 years old and recalls a stress-free and healthy birth.
    Sandra Bullock

Actress and producer Sandra Bullock became a mother at the age of 46 after adopting her son Louis in 2010. She then adopted her daughter Laila in 2015. The actress has previously been open about the adoption process saying there’s a “soul out there for everyone”.
    Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria welcomed her first child with partner José Bastón in 2018 when she was 43.
    Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig married in 2011 and both had children prior to their marriage. In 2018 the couple welcomed a daughter into the world when the actress was 48 years old and her husband was 50.

It’s Q4: Here’s How To Handle the Madness Without Losing It

It seems that every year Q4 comes quicker and quicker. Even when I do my best to prepare in advance and anticipate the end of the year rush—I’m always somehow baffled at how it is already October.
If you haven’t prepped for the mad dash that is Q4, hope is not lost. Let’s talk about ways to set yourself up to crush the last three months of the year—from reaching current goals to planning for the year ahead.

Get Your Personal Affairs in Order
I must admit, whenever anyone says “get your affairs in order”, I think, “what affairs? Should I have affairs?” What I mean here is that we need to take the first month of Q4 to arrange our personal schedules. The last three months of the year always get jam packed with end of year reports, yearly planning, and every single holiday party or event you can think of, so it’s time to get real about our personal calendars.
We know that come November and December life is going to get a bit hectic. So let’s plan in advance. Before doing any event scheduling, think about what you need as a foundation in your life. Just because the holidays and Q4 get busy, it doesn’t mean we can skimp out on the self-care that brought us this far.
Take an hour to map out the next few months. Make sure your workouts, nightly routine, daily walks, 20 minutes of reading—whatever you do to stay sane and sharp—is scheduled. Now more than ever is the time to prioritize you. While you’re at it, evaluate what’s working and what’s not. What worked for you last season might not work for you this season. Don’t be afraid to change.
Once you’ve done that, it’s time to look at the personal events and obligations you have coming up. Pencil in anything that you know will pop up—your yearly holiday party with the girls, your trip home to your family, or your time to Christmas shop. Get it all in your calendar so that you don’t have to worry about it popping up out of nowhere later (believe me, there will be enough surprise events coming at you in the next few months!).

Take It to the Office: Review Your Team’s Scheduling
Now that you’ve planned for your personal needs and obligations this quarter, let’s take it to the office. While it may seem early to begin to plan around holiday vacations and out-of-office emails, let me tell you: it’s not.
Now is the time to look at your calendar and the days you need to take off. Then, it’s time to go to your internal team or bosses and discuss everyone’s availability. Make sure coverage is in order and everyone is on the same page about holiday planning (so you know, you can actually enjoy the gingerbread cookies and mulled wine when you have them!).
Now, let’s take it a step further. Once you have all of your vacations planned, it’s time to loop in any external companies or contacts you work with. The last thing you want is for your client to need something from you when a majority of your team is out of office, or to only email you about something needed while you’re out skiing the slopes.
Connect with critical people to communicate days off, company holiday schedules, and plan accordingly. As long as it’s well planned out and transparent, usually all parties involved will understand.

    Plan Additional Time for Reporting
While pulling together unexpected reports seems to be an inevitable part of the workplace, there are things you can do to mitigate the end-of-year fire drills.
As you get into Q4, think about the different end-of-quarter and end-of-year reports that will need to be pulled. Begin putting together templates, and pulling data from last quarter or last year so that once you can put together this year’s information, you are already ahead of the game. Discuss with your boss or clients when their internal and external deadlines are for end-of-year reporting or presentations, and ensure they know you are around to help out (and that a heads up for planning is always appreciated!).

Anticipating what your boss or clients may need or want is a simple key to success and how you can stand out in your career.

Here are some simple questions to ask:

    What reports will be needed?
What are their internal and external deadlines?
What template should reports be in?
What date ranges are they looking for?

Now, before you ask these questions, I’d challenge you to take it a step further by actually having ideas for the answers. For example, suggesting a PowerPoint presentation to show year over year growth of your company social media accounts and asking for input, is better than simply asking “hey, what do you want for this report?”

    Source: Color Joy Stock

And… Plan Additional Time for Planning (yes, we’re planning to plan)
In addition to considering what reporting is needed, it’s time to think about what planning needs to happen for the following year and especially the first quarter. What worked this year? What didn’t? What goals need to be met to surpass this year? Begin to think about these questions now and get plans in place for the new year.
If you don’t know what your goals are or don’t have the expectation to set them… ask! I would be shocked if your boss or client doesn’t appreciate you asking them what the goals of the organization are so that your work can play a key role.
Once you’ve done that, break your brainstorming and planning for the new year into these key steps:

Review your goals and performance from this year (if you don’t have those, review what was accomplished and what it resulted in).
Review what is on the horizon for the next year in terms of company goals and industry shifts (What is trending? What are competitors doing?).
Begin planning for what goals you need and want to hit, as well as what initiatives will get you there (loop your boss into the conversation if you need to!).
Break it down into the first quarter. What can you do in January, February, and March to move the needle and set the tone for the rest of the new year?

All of this planning now will help you maintain boundaries throughout Q4 and enjoy yourself while you’re at it!

    Make Time for the Unexpected
Last but not least, you can plan and plan and plan, but such is life… curve balls will come your way. Your boss will need a report by EOD, your client will need something by Friday. If you can, try to anticipate that things will come up and have some time allotted for when they do.
Q4 can be a stressful time as budgets need to be used up, planning needs to be in place, and end-of-year reports need to be picture perfect (not to mention, you are also probably trying to buy ALL the perfect gifts!). Use these tools to get ahead of the game and make the next few months more joyful than overwhelming by getting a step ahead today.

Khloé Kardashian denies posting warped photoshopped Instagram snap

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

The Kardashian-Jenners are no strangers of being accused of photoshopping their Instagram snaps every now and then, but it’s not often you’ll ever see the family entertaining the claims.
However, it appears for Khloé Kardashian enough is enough.
A photo emerged of the reality star in her hotel room in Paris, where she had travelled for fashion week, where Kardashian is posing, but some parts of the photo look incredibly warped, leading many to accuse her of photoshopping herself.
The same photo was also posted on Kardashian’s makeup artist Ash Kolm’s Instagram page, but was seemingly unaltered, further fuelling speculation the 38-year-old had photoshopped herself.

Why does Khloe Kardashian photoshop her pics anyway? pic.twitter.com/lo3cKX9lWf
    — mahri 🔴⚽️🔰MUFC 🐝 POGBA (@MancityReynolds) October 5, 2022

But it seems, according to Kardashian, the photoshopped image in question was never posted to her Instagram.
“I never even posted this photo,” she responded to a fan on Twitter. “Maybe my glam did but I didn’t. Also I mean… The bent lines in the back lol please.”
In a follow-up Twitter post, Kardashian clarified the statement about her glam team.

Wait not sayin my glam did that either in just saying I didn’t post this photo on my page. Where’s the receipts that I did lol people are so weird
    — Khloé (@khloekardashian) October 5, 2022

“Wait not saying my glam did that either,” she said. “[I’m] just saying I didn’t post this photo on my page. Where’s the receipts that I did lol [?] People are so weird.”
It’s not the first time Kardashian has been accused of photoshopping her Instagram photos, but it may be the first time she’s been accused of sharing a photo she allegedly never posted in the first place.
The internet loves to stir the pot…

Dubai spotlighted on ‘World’s 50 Best’ list

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris

In the world of food and beverage, Dubai is making waves on a global scale.
From cool speakeasies to fine dining havens to hidden gems, the emirate has certainly become a hub for hotspots in recent years.
While those who are from or live in the emirate will know the diverse food and beverage offerings, it may be unknown to many on a global scale. However, during this year’s World’s 50 Best Bar list, it’s safe to say Dubai was put on the map.
Three popular bars in the emirate were spotlighted on the 50 best list, whilst another narrowly missed the cut ranking in the top 100.
Taking the top spot for Dubai was Zuma – ranking globally at number 38 – a spot which has been renowned in Dubai for over 12 years and arguably largely shaped the F&B space to what we know it as today.

It was noted by World’s 50 Best that while Zuma has 20 venues the globe over, it’s the “Dubai spot of this modern Japanese izakaya that has become renowned for its cocktails and service”.
Meanwhile, a few spots down on the list at number 45 ranked Galaxy Bar, a popular secret spot in the heart of DIFC just off to the left of popular fine-dining restaurant Avli by tashsas.
It was highlighted that the bar is known for its “classical Greek architecture, with blue hues and a stunning marble bar” and was a spot that “feels sultry and intimate”.

Both bars ranked on the list last year, but this year saw a new Dubai venue added to the list.
Ranking at number 50 was the Bulgari Bar, located at the Bulgari Hotel, which was noted for the “glamorous space boasts views of the marina, custom-designed chandeliers hung in the shape of the Bulgari logo and black Portoro marble”.

Narrowly missing out on the top 50 was popular Japanese restaurant and bar Mimi Kakushi. The venue, located at the Four Seasons Jumeirah, placed at number 58 on the World’s 50 Best extended list.

Over the past 12 months, there has been a huge spotlight on the UAE and its culinary offerings with MENA’s 50 Best Restaurants launching in Abu Dhabi last year and the Michelin Guide launching in Dubai earlier this year.

Malala Yousafzai has called out Hollywood for its lack of Muslim representation

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris

Malala Yousafzai is no stranger to speaking out about what’s right.
As the 25-year-old activist continues to use her platform for good, Yousafzai took the opportunity when being honoured at the prestigious Variety Power of Women event in Los Angeles to highlight the major lack of diversity in Hollywood television and films.
“In the last year I have learnt a lot, and much of it was not surprising,” Yousafzai said during her speech, calling out just how underrepresented Muslims and Asians are in the mainstream.
“I learned that Asian people like me make up less than four per cent of leads in Hollywood films,” she continued. “Muslims are 25 per cent of the population, but only one per cent of characters in popular TV series.
“Behind the camera, the statistics for black and brown creators are even worse.”

Yousafzai went on to criticise Hollywood bigshots for passing on many projects in which “they thought the characters or their creators were too young, too brown, too foreign, too poor”.
Other women recognised at the event included Oprah Winfrey, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton and Elizabeth Olsen.
Yousafzai rose to global prominence in 2012 after being shot in the head by Taliban gunmen as she boarded her school bus in north-west Pakistan.
The teen first became a target for the regime after defying a ban issued in 2009 forbidding girls to go to school and penning an anonymous blog for the BBC highlighting life under Taliban rule with a personal emphasis on women’s right to education.
She went on to become the youngest person ever to Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, being just 17-years-old. The human rights activist then began her studies at Oxford University in 2017.
She now continues to advocate for the rights of girls globally to receive a full education.

Dubai seeking to add 20km to metro lines, adding 11 stations

    Lifestyle

    by Olivia Morris

A little over a decade after first opening, the emirate of Dubai appears to be seeking to significantly extend its metro network.
According to The National, a project notice has been issued by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to contractors about widening the metro – which first launched in 2009 – network area in the emirate.
Entitled ‘Project in Dubai for Dubai Metro Green Line Extension’, the proposed extension of the city’s green line would add more than 20km more track to the metro and would include 11 new stations, terminating the line at Academic City.
Meanwhile, the metro’s red line also seems to have plans for an extension by 3.5km for the line to finish at Mirdif City Centre.
With the updates of new visas and Dubai positioning itself as a global business hub, it’s a move that would greatly help residents and tourists alike.
The current population of Dubai is estimated to be around 3.5 million, but is expected to nearly double in less than 20 years’ time.
The city estimated earlier this week the population of Dubai will reach 5.8 million by 2040.
Given the rising popularity of Dubai for business and tourism, a metro extension would be more than welcome by citizens, residents and visitors.

Saudi Arabia is set to host the Asian Winter Games in 2029.
The Kingdom won the bid to host AWG at Neom’s manmade mountain resort Trojena – a project which is yet to be built.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Minister of Sports for Saudi Arabia, announced the news via his official Twitter page.
“With the unlimited support by the Saudi leadership and the Crown Prince to the sports sector, we are proud to announce we have won the bid to host AWG Trojena 2029 as the first country in western Asia, which will continue to place the kingdom as one of the leading countries in sport,” he said.

    — عبدالعزيز بن تركي الفيصل (@AbdulazizTF) October 4, 2022

Saudi Arabia’s winning bid for the games comes after the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) submitted a letter of interest in August to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) about hosting the games.
    What is Trojena?
While the games are set to take place at Trojena, the project is still yet to be completed.
Located in the area of Neom, an area of major development in the Kingdom, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, announced the plans for the project back in March.
The new tourist hub in Neom is set to open in 2026 and will entice keen skiers as well as adventure holidaymakers.
Trojena will be a year-round destination for tourists which will include ski slopes, ski village, luxury resorts, restaurants, mountain activities, a man-made freshwater lake, hiking trails, watersports and much more.

This is #TROJENA, the peak of innovation, technology, wellness and sustainable living. https://t.co/A7q4uyPyFQ pic.twitter.com/6deMqm07Tp
    — TROJENA (@NEOMTROJENA) September 9, 2022

According to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who is also the Chairman of Neom, Trojena will “redefine mountain tourism” around the world.
“Trojena will redefine mountain tourism for the world by creating a place based on the principles of ecotourism, highlighting our efforts to preserve nature and enhance the community’s quality of life, which is aligned with the goals of the kingdom’s Vision 2030,” he said of the new project.
The entire project of Neom was first announced in 2017 and the first section is set to open in 2025. Located north of Tabuk, Neom covers a total area of 26,500 km2 and is set to be fully sustainable using solar power, will feature a new high-tech city and much more.
