Whether establishing NGOs or pursuing charity work, Saudi royals have played a huge role in empowering women.
Be it in the world of sports or curbing a social stigma against women in authority, no task is a difficult feat for them.
As they continue to pave the way for many, Emirates Woman takes a look at some of their achievements over time.
Her Royal Highness Princess Haifa Al-Faisal Al Saud

As the assistant minister for Tourism at the Saudi Ministry of Tourism, she plays a key role in establishing effective regulations and policies in the local industry. With an outspoken attitude and mission to raise awareness on issues relating to women’s health, she ensures that such a crucial cause is given significant importance. Princess Haifa founded the Zahra Breast Cancer Association for early detection, prevention and treatment.
Additionally, she sits on the board of directors at the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Qiddiya, the Tourism Development Fund (TDF) and the Tourism Development Council (TDC), balancing multiple roles in her career.
Her Royal Highness Princess Adela bint Abdullah Al Saud

By redefining the boundaries of a Saudi woman, her reputable role has taken a vocal stance for women’s empowerment on a series of occasions. By speaking out on issues such as ending domestic violence and introducing sports for girls in schools, she has had an effective role in reshaping society for women in the country.
She’s the founding member and chairman of Sanad Charitable Society to Support Children with Cancer and president of the National Charitable Foundation for Home Health Care in Jeddah to curb any health care issue. For her contribution to society, she also received an accolade for being the first Arab lady in supporting women’s issues and humanitarian action.
Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia bint Majid Al Saud

With her life’s mission to help others, Princess Lamia has been a strong advocate for women in all spheres. Through Alwaleed Philanthropies, she has been able to host impactful projects that help women achieve their goals while supporting local artisans and talent. In an interview with Emirates Woman she said, “If you are fortunate enough to have access to resources or a raised platform, it is your responsibility to support and empower those who are not as fortunate. ”
Her Royal Highness Princess Moudi bint Khalid Al Saud

With over 30 years of active charitable contributions to the community, Princess Moudi has spearheaded several noteworthy initiatives such as her role as the secretary-general of the Down Syndrome Guardian Association, the secretary-general of the King Khaled Charitable Foundation and the Al-Nadha Women’s Charitable Society. Her key aim is to empower women and give them a platform to voice their opinions.
Her Royal Highness Princess Adwa bint Fahad Al Saud

As an ambassador of Global Peace and Goodwill, Princess Adwa is an active pioneer of community work in the Arab world. By being a cultural trailblazer and humanitarian, she’s considered the ‘Princess of Humanity’ for her efforts in executing the rights of the disabled, orphans and elderly.
During her career, Her Royal Highness has received multiple accolades including a lifetime membership by The Federal Organization of Friends of the United Nations and an honorary doctorate from the College of British Studies.
Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud

When it comes to raising breast cancer awareness in the Kingdom, this princess has played a pivotal role. By keeping in line with Saudi’s 2030 vision, she tirelessly continues to expand work opportunities for women in the region. In 2020, she gained the title to become the first female to be Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States. As an active part of the sports community, she has been a member of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee since 2017 and International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2018.

10 Ways to Level Up Your Career by Next Week

We’re officially more than halfway through the year (literally how?), and that means one of two things: 1) It’s been approximately four months since I ditched my New Year’s resolution to be a fit girlie and 2) I’m losing some steam on my career goals. Not that things are bad, per se, but after a few months of trucking along toward those lofty goals I set at the beginning of the year, I’m feeling my usual, mid-year need to rebrand, set new work goals, and reassess who I want to be to finish out this next half of the year.
My biggest grief with goal setting when it comes to my career is that I want to do it all. But with the constraint of time, money, and my attention span that is short-lived at even the smallest mention of The Vampire Diaries or people-watching on the Chicago Lakefront, I’m trying to get the biggest bang for my time and financial buck as possible. Enter Skillshare, my best-kept hack for making moves toward a career in the most streamlined way possible.
Skillshare is an affordable, online learning community where members come together to take the next step in their creative journey. It helps learners experience real improvement with hands-on projects and classes designed for real life, from building a UX portfolio to starting a side hustle to resume-building and beyond, no matter where your starting point is. Plus, if you join today, you can get one month free. If you’re looking for an attainable way to make moves in your career by next week, look no further: There’s a Skillshare class with your name on it.

    1. Become an expert in the technology your company uses
I don’t care what anyone says; there’s no question in life quite as daunting as the ever-loaded Are you proficient in Excel? bit. Sure, I can add the sum of items in a column and pull an occasional average, but if I answer yes to that question, I’m straight up lying to you. Whether you want to brush up on knowledge you already have or start from scratch, Skillshare has tons of courses on technology your company likely uses so you can become a master and take your application knowledge to the next level. Whether you want to finally get a grip on Excel, master Microsoft Teams, get your life together on Asana, or wow your coworkers with Zoom hacks, Skillshare has a class that has your back.

    2. Brush up on data analytics to drive new ideas and processes
If there’s one game-changing piece of advice I could give to anyone after a dabbling in three careers as an adult, it’s that data is king. Pulling data, sorting data, analyzing it, and using that information to drive best practices and new ideas moving forward is a skill that’s unmatched in the workplace and will serve you no matter what field you’re in. If you’re not a numbers person (I am with you on this one), don’t fret. Skillshare has plenty of classes from intro to expert that can help you make sense of the numbers once and for all. From Marketing Analytics Fundamentals to social media analytics like Pinterest and Instagram to Google Analytics and beyond, Skillshare has a bunch of resources that can make the all-intimidating data analysis a whole lot more accessible.

    3. Channel your inner-graphic designer
Whether you’re already a wiz in Photoshop or you are still editing your pictures in the Instagram app (no shame in that game), there is such an opportunity for workplace growth in graphic design. Graphic design can help your company or business gain visibility externally, help communicate ideas internally, and can take your projects to the next level. And if you’re looking to level up your graphic design game with Skillshare, they have plenty of courses surrounding a plethora of design tools like Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, and UX design—take your pick and watch the magic happen.

    4. Refine your problem-solving skills
If there’s one constant amongst fields of study, it’s that problems will always arise, no matter how streamlined your processes are. From disagreements among coworkers to finding a better way to communicate a product to your customer, problem solving is one of the most valuable skills you can equip yourself with. And even if you feel like your way of solving issues works, why not take things up a notch and help yourself tackle your work with a new perspective? Skillshare offers courses that can help you think critically, approach issues in a different way, become a better listener, and use creativity to adapt in your workplace. If there’s ever been a tool for the ever-evolving workplace, Skillshare is it.

    5. Become a master networker

    7. Work on your ability to give and receive feedback
Giving and receiving feedback is one of the most underrated ways to improve performance and become a leader within your field. If you’re one of those people who feels a rise in anxiety when a negative, performance-related comment comes your way (guilty as charged) or if you struggle to provide feedback to those you work with, it might be time to give some attention to how you view, receive, and provide commentary in your field. If you’re ready to build this skillset, check out Modern Leadership: Give & Get Honest Feedback at Work on Skillshare.

    8. Improve your negotiation skills
Love it or hate it, negotiation is a crucial aspect of your work, whether it be closing on a sales deal or advocating for a higher salary in your role. As with most workplace skills, negotiation is an art that can improve and become more powerful with attention and practice. With Skillshare, you can find courses like Salary Negotiation Masterclass: Get the Offer You Deserve to help you advocate for yourself and outline a conversation with your boss and the Sales Skills And Negotiation Skills Masterclass to help you master sales skills, strategies, and techniques.

    9. Update your resume to be prepared for new opportunities
Even if you’re not looking for a new job, you should be updating your resume at least twice a year. And while it can be easy to put off, keeping your resume up-to-date with pivotal projects, promotions, and accomplishments will be a “thank yourself later” moment if a new opportunity arises out of the woodwork. When a recruiter calls with your dream opportunity or that company you’ve been eyeing for years finally has an opening, the last thing you want to be doing is scrambling to update a resume that hasn’t been updated in three years. If it’s been a minute since you’ve updated your resume, be sure to check out How to Write a Winning Resume and Land Your Dream Job and Recruiter Reveals CV (Resume) Writing Formula on SkillShare.

    10. Become proficient in public speaking
If there’s one award I’m most favored to win in life, it’s “Most Likely to Freeze Up and Have an Existential Crisis while Public Speaking.” It’s a skill that’s been on my radar to improve on for far too long, and if there’s one class I’m running—not walking—to on Skillshare, it’s Intro to Public Speaking – Give a 5-Minute Talk Without Dying. If you’re looking to improve the way that you communicate to your team, to large groups, or even on one-on-ones to your boss, Skillshare has plenty of resources to help you eloquently and confidently present in work and in life.

Everything to know about the super full moon in Sagittarius

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

    Words by Kirstyn Lewis.
Almost everyone should be feeling upbeat about now.
The Full Moon in Sagittarius is gracing our skies on June 14, 2022, highlighting social popularity and contagious enthusiasm but you may have noticed those beams already working their magic.
Mercury was so excited by the Full Moon that he timed his arrival into Gemini simultaneously. He wanted to give you a keen, alert, and expressive mentality.
Although this is a more gregarious lunation than usual, she also brings sensitivity and awareness to others’ needs. Have you noticed others’ gravitating to your fabulousness in the past day? Yes, your warm and loving nature is a beacon of light right now. You can expect to be on the minds of others you enthused over the past day or two before the week is out.
Take an opportunity to bring joy to others with your fancy footwork. It looks like you can delight others with a fabulously fun, unpredictable, or impromptu performance. Okay, there is always your living room to prance about in. Turn the music up either way.
Whatever you’re up to, you’re guaranteed to attract those who love to be around spirited people. There is nothing wrong with being remembered for your happy-go-lucky attitude and magnetic personality, even if it’s fleeting.
The moral of the story is that either way, try not to be cooped up indoors. Make sure you phone a friend, meet for drinks, or hit a party or two.

Some may find you will be rubbing shoulders with those who can open doors for you if you’re at a loss to find some direction. Someone is watching over you as fortune has a funny way of shining upon you. Now is the time to speak up.
This week highlights laughter around conversations with childhood or school friends.
Alternatively, it appears you will enjoy animated banter with those everyone loves to be around. Are you chatting about stories of travel, adventure, or how you first started out in your career? Stories peppered with risk or how you followed your heart and landed your perfect job will be astonishingly entertaining, so what if they are embellished? Everyone is having fun.
All in all, good times are to be had. Leave the woe of romance in the closet for now; life will work them out for you soon enough.
Lastly, the Sagittarius Moon brings news that’s been a little slow in arriving, you’re now impatient. It relates to something that sets you up over the longer term and could produce a unique outcome. Are you nervous? It will be a fork in the road toward a brighter future. You will want to be on the phone to share the news with others, someone appears to be delighted for you, especially if it involves a prestigious organisation or institution.
Sadly, good things end far too soon, and by June 15, 2022, you will want a few days to chill out; you may have even hit the wall. But don’t worry, you will be ready for a slightly more subdued but equally memorable weekend ahead.
Tip: Be aware of mood swings, your impulsivity could be in such high gear that it leaves you prone to anxiety and we all know where that leads.

‘Filter vs Reality’: The influencer changing the narrative of Instagram filters

    Beauty

    by Olivia Morris

Social media was once a space where the fourth wall was broken down and transparency and relatability were at the helm. However, over the years platforms have grown and developed as have the millions of daily users on them. What once was used as a space to connect with people all over the world has become a booming business and arguably a place of thwarted reality.
Social media, particularly Instagram, is often used as a highlight reel, showcasing curated tidbits of people’s lives showing only the very best. Along with this, we have seen a boom in the use of filters on platforms.
In various different ways, users are now able to warp their appearance – some in funny ways, others so realistic you’d be mistaken what people look like which, in turn, are creating unrealistic beauty standards. In a bid to bring back transparency to social media, UK entrepreneur Faye Kingston took a stand in 2020. Launching her own filter on Instagram, ‘Filter vs. Reality’. This filter, in short, aims to show people what you look like with or without a filter, with half the face airbrushed and porcelain and half the face normal.
“The idea behind my split-screen filter, ‘Filter vs Reality’, was to create something unique to show people how these dramatic beauty filters rid selfies of skin textures, tones, scars, everything that makes you and how it’s affecting our mental health,” she tells Emirates Woman.
A little over two years after launching, the filter has had nearly five billion impressions to date, with even celebrities like Jessie J and Jen Atkin jumping on the bandwagon. Below, Kingston tells us the inspiration behind launching the filter and how she’s bringing transparency back to the internet.

You’re now a well-known content creator on Instagram. What has your relationship been like with editing photos and using filters over the years?
I have been on a self-love journey for a long time and at this stage of my life I am in the best place I have everbeen, I have never been happier and it’s all down to self-love. I tend not to edit my body shape however I do edit my photos to brighten up the lighting and makeup etc. I have always been open about the edit as I got nothing to hide and like I said, ‘Social Media isn’t real life’.
What inspired you to launch ‘Filter vs. Reality’?
The idea behind my split-screen filter, ‘Filter vs Reality’, was to create something unique to show people how these dramatic beauty filters rid selfies of skin textures, tones, scars, everything that makes you and how it’s affecting our mental health. Don’t let these filters fool you; you’re unique, beautiful, strong, powerful, loved & worthy without any filter.
It’s now had nearly five billion impressions. What has the feedback been from the campaign?
I have been blown away by the positive response I had, and I never knew we all needed this reality check in our lives. So many people have reached out to me to say how my ‘Filter vs Reality’ filter has made a positive change of self-acceptance in people’s lives. It’s a reminder that social media is fake, and textured, pore-filled, and discoloured skin are all a natural occurrence.
How has using filters/Instagram over the years affected your mental health?
I was addicted to using filters until I realised social media is fake and what you see online simply isn’t real or achievable. The beauty filters can do more harm than good, altering self-image and pressuring young girls to try and be the way the filters make them look on the apps. And such pressure can cause depression or even eating disorders in some cases.

In what way do you think it contributes to unattainable beauty standards?
The problem with these filters is you see a side of yourself with dramatic filters that doesn’t exist, which corresponds to an unnatural and inhuman ideal of beauty that you can now achieve with filters. It’s the unhealthy obsession we all have with that perfect look. A 2017 study in the journal Cognitive Research: Principles and Implications found that people only recognised manipulated images 60 per cent to 65 per cent of the time. With the prevalence of filters and airbrushing on social media, it is terrifying to think of how it will be possible for young people to grow up with standard, realistic images of what is beautiful.
What is your relationship like now with using filters on Instagram/social media?
I have a love and hate relationship with filters as all the playful filters are fine, but the ones that can be damaging are those with dramatic changes to the face – which can cause mental health and self-esteem issues. It’s easy to feel insecure, seeing how so much of the content we consume daily is filtered and photoshopped, and everyone looks picture-perfect; it’s hard not to point out your flaws, but REAL Is always beautiful.
How can we move forward in a world of social media to be transparent with the way we look/without filters?
I think it’s time to “break that habit” of overthinking how we look in pictures because nobody is perfect, and everyone has “bad photos” we choose what and what not to share on social media to put out a good image of ourselves. We all should move towards the powerful place of self-acceptance.
