      Having been born and raised here, I’ve seen Palm Jumeirah develop from a simple vision in mind to make this area the largest man-made island in the world.
      When was the Palm Jumeirah built?
      Construction of The Palm Jumeirah Dubai island began in June 2001 and the developers announced handover of the first residential units in 2006. oday, the 17 fronds are home to around 1,500 beachfront mansions, with a further 6,000 apartments on the trunk. Major hotels on the crescent include Atlantis The Palm and the Waldorf Astoria, with brands such as Fairmont and Viceroy on the trunk. Resorts in the works include The Royal Atlantis, next to the existing Atlantis resort, and Palm 360, a 2-tower resort connected by a 155m-long “sky pool”.

      The aesthetic man-made island is home to a myriad of delectable restaurants that offer every cuisine. From Michelin-Starred restaurants to international names in the culinary world, Palm Jumeirah is home to the finest havens in the UAE.

      The exhibition features a diverse range of artworks and artifacts, highlighting the Middle East’s artistic traditions and contemporary creations. One of the standout highlights is a curated collection of over 50 artworks from Saudi Arabia, spanning five decades. This showcase offers a glimpse into the evolution of modern visual art in the Kingdom, featuring paintings, sculptures, and installations.

      Jewelry enthusiasts will be captivated by the exquisite collection of 60 exceptional pieces brought together by A2Z Advisory Bahrain. These creations showcase the Eastern world’s influence on jewelry design, featuring stunning gemstones, diamonds, and iconic pieces from renowned maisons. Contemporary jewels by leading designers are also included, demonstrating the region’s ongoing innovation in the field.

      Calligraphy, a cornerstone of Islamic art, is celebrated in a dedicated section of the exhibition. Visitors can explore the evolution of the calligraphic arts from the 8th to the 21st century through a selection of important leaves from religious and secular manuscripts. From the earliest Qur’anic manuscripts in Kufic script to the lavish illumination of the Qajars,the exhibition showcases the breadth and beauty of this timeless art form.

      Fashion enthusiasts will be drawn to the five limited-edition handbags designed by HRH Princess Nourah Al Faisal. Inspired by Saudi cultural heritage, these bold designs pay homage to the five major regions of the Kingdom, showcasing their diversity and beauty through colors, motifs, and embroidery techniques. Princess Al Faisal, who is also CEO of Art of Heritage, is dedicated to preserving the Kingdom’s treasured artifacts and traditional craft.

      To complement the art and objects on display, Sotheby’s London is hosting a series of public events, including panel discussions and gallery tours. These events aim to immerse visitors in the rich history of the Middle East, providing valuable insights into the cultural significance of the artworks and artifacts.

      Sotheby’s Café has also been transformed to reflect the region’s vibrant café culture. The Middle East-inspired menu offers visitors a chance to savor culinary delights while enjoying the exhibition.

      The title “Hafla,” which means celebration in Arabic, perfectly captures the spirit of this exhibition. It goes beyond the English definition, denoting a celebration of something truly deserving of special care and attention. This theme is reflected in every aspect of the event, from the carefully curated artworks to the engaging public programs.
