Situated in the heart of Ras Al Khaimah, Bear Grylls Explorers Camp by RAK Leisure, gives visitors a change to experience what it’s like to experience the wild with a team of experts. During our own journey, we tried out the basic survival course, which takes place for four hours with specialised instructors who gave us a taste of what it’s like to experience the desert with a handful of limited resources.

Based on your skills, there are three levels at the camp based on the skill of each participant, to fend for themselves in the wild. The instructors can also design exclusive challenges for private groups, for a team building exercise or to simply bond together in the wild.

The primal survival course is an intense 24-hour survival experience, where attendees will learn practical life skills, from climbing rough terrain to sourcing their own food amid to feel the pressure in a highly-advanced situation. This course starts from Dhs1,200 and includes all the necessary equipment for a day out in the wild.

For those who wish to start and don’t know where to begin, the Essential Survival Course is a fast-paced 4-hour course that will leave you tired yet exhilarated as in a short span of time you can comprehend the skills that Grylls uses to survive in the world. From learning how to tie various knots to learning about life experiences through camp instructors this mission. Priced at Dhs450 per adult, this is the idea way to get your foot in the rough terrain.

To add to the experience, participants can also book the Jais Sky Tour that provides amble fun for the entire family at an average speed of 60kmph at an impressive 1,937 metres above the Arabian Gulf over a range of 337 metres, making it the longest zipline in the world.

For a unique element to your experience the Jais Sledder provides an opportunity for all to tour the area. The sleds are designed to seat two people comfortably, one in front and the other in the back. You are safely secured into the sled, and each sledder has access to the braking system. Taking place from Tuesday to Thursday 11am to 5pm and Friday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm, this experience starts at Dhs50 for an adult for a single ride.

After a long thrillseeking day, taking a break to rejuvenate is equally important. The highest restaurant in the UAE, 1484 By Puro dishes up favourites from around the world including the ultimate veggie burger, Thai Beef Salad and more complemented by an expansive outdoor terrace and impressive mountain views.
