This Oscar-winning actor is set to present Amal Clooney with a prestigious award

Over the years, Lebanese-British lawyer Amal Clooney has been commended for her work as a barrister and activist.

Now, recognising the incredible nature of her hard work, Clooney is set to be given a prestigious award, which is highly-recognised to protect courageous journalists around the world, and it’s Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep who will present her with the accolade.

The celebrated star will honour Clooney with the CPJ International Press Awards this year for being a powerful influencer in her own right.

While being praised for her sartorial choices, the human rights barrister of international renown is a strong advocate for press freedom including the rights of journalists around the world at the United Nations while she also promotes freedom and speech and journalism through the Clooney Foundation for Justice.

Streep will present Clooney with the 2020 Ifill Press Freedom Award.

Discussing the accolade and the ceremony, Streep explained, “In times of unprecedented uncertainty, it’s journalists who are out there, gathering the facts and trying to help us make sense of it all.”

“By asking tough questions, and pursuing the truth at any cost, they are essential workers — serving the public and protecting democracy,” she added. “That’s why I’m proud to take part in this year’s International Press Freedom Awards and to continue supporting the vital work of the Committee to Protect Journalists.”

On Thursday, November 19, 2020 CJP’s 30th annual awards ceremony will honour courageous journalists around the globe including Clooney who works as a representative for the numerous journalists that have been under threat.

The CPJ’s 2020 award winners will include four journalists from Bangladesh, Iran, Nigeria and Russia who have set out to report the news without fear of facing arrest or prosecution.
