It is hard to remember a time when Uber wasn’t around, but many forget that the ride-hailing service only launched in 2009 and came to Dubai in 2013 and Abu Dhabi in 2018. However, now we can’t imagine being without this convenient pick-up option to take us anywhere we want to go in just a few clicks.
This convenient personal chauffer app is available in most major cities around the world and has now finally launched in Sharjah making it even easier for commuters to travel into Dubai as well as other cities in the UAE.
Just like the Dubai users, riders in Sharjah will have access to UberSelect, Uber’s most affordable service, once you download the app and add your details.
This move is also great news for potential new drivers who might’ve struggled with a drop in riders when everyone was working from home.
The latest launch is part of Uber’s ongoing efforts to continue providing more access to Uber’s technology and in line with the company’s commitment to invest in the region’s potential for growth by expanding and serving more of the community and creating additional earning opportunities for drivers during a challenging time.
With that in mind, you can feel comfortable knowing that Uber has rolled out enhanced safety features to give everyone using the app a peace of mind. From mandating masks for both riders and drivers, and offering them the flexibility to cancel a ride without incurring a penalty, if they’re not wearing a mask, to regular sanitisation of the cars and making hand sanitizer available for riders.
“COVID-19 has presented unprecedented challenges, but as we work towards accelerating recovery, we’re focusing on our strengths – offering safe, reliable, and affordable mobility solutions and investing in securing the livelihoods of drivers by creating additional earning opportunities,” says Rifad Mahasneh, General Manager, GCC & Levant at Uber MENA.
