Uber offering free rides to returning UAE residents from airports

As UAE residents are beginning to return to the country, Uber is making things easier for those with impending arrivals into selected airports across the country.

The ridesharing company, in partnership with Mastercard, is offering free rides to residents who are landing into Dubai International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport and Abu Dhabi International Airport.

All returning residents need to do is apply for a free voucher upon landing in the UAE, and as long as they pay via Mastercard the ride will be fully comped up to Dhs100.

The move is to give residents a “heartwarming” welcome home after being stranded abroad for the better part of four months due to COVID-19, according to Uber’s Middle East and Africa general manager, Anthony le Roux.

“Kicking off the partnership in the Middle East with free trips for residents in the UAE is a heartwarming ‘welcome home’ for the tens of thousands of residents who have been stuck abroad, away from loved ones for many months and have been severely impacted by the pandemic,” le Roux said.

As it stands, the offer is valid until the end of the month – Friday, July 31. It should be noted there’s only two passengers allowed in each vehicle as to not exceed the maximum amount of three passengers per car, in line with the current government regulations in place.
