There has been heavy fines in place for those who are not wearing masks out in public, but now the Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management has outlined a new set of rules when it comes to wearing them, which everyone should be aware of.
The new guidelines, which were published on Sunday May 31, highlight exactly when you need to wear a mask and when you don’t need to.
Some groups of people have been made exempt from the wearing of masks which include: children under the age of six, those who require supplemental oxygen or have severe respiratory issues and those with cognitive, intellectual or sensory medical conditions, as outlined by the Dubai Media Office.

The only other occasions when people are permitted not to wear masks include the following scenarios: when driving alone or with family members; when alone in an office space and you’re not surrounded by others; when engaging in high intensity exercise; during medical treatments such as dental, eye, nose or throat examinations; when swimming or skydiving; and when you’re eating or drinking in both indoor and outdoor settings, such as restaurants.
However, in all of the above settings, social distancing measures must be implemented where possible, particularly when dining out in restaurants.
In any other scenarios masks should be worn – failure to do so will result in a Dhs3,000 fine.
Given the recent easing of restrictions and curfews, more people are venturing out so be sure to keep social distancing measures in mind, as well as wearing your mask when required.
