New guidelines for shoppers and retailers in Dubai

It was announced at the start of Ramadan malls would be opening across Dubai, but there were strict protocols put in place for shoppers in order to ensure the health and safety of the public amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, nearly three weeks on, there have been some updated guidelines issued by the Dubai Economy (DED).

While throughout Ramadan malls have been operating between 12pm to 10pm, once Holy Month ends shopping centres may return to normal operating hours. However the DED’s circular does recommend malls stick to the reduced hours of 10am to 10pm during the week, and 10am to 12am on weekends.

Another huge update for shoppers and retailers alike includes the reinstatement of refund and returns policies. While returns were initially suspended, stores may now accept returns and exchanges under the stipulation items be sanitised and set aside for 24 hours before they can be put back up for sale.

Similarly shoppers are now allowed to use changing rooms if they wear a mask at all times. However, only five items can be tried on and there’s a time limit of 10 minutes in changing rooms. In addition, any items that are tried on by shoppers, they must be set aside for 24 hours before they are returned to the shop floor for purchase.

Meanwhile restrictions on sales and promotions has been lifted, which is perfect timing if you need to hit the shops for Eid gifts.

It should be noted shoppers are only allowed to visit malls for a maximum of three hours, social distancing practices must be adhered to and no children under 12 or people over 60 are allowed to enter malls nor are those who are considered high risk.
