Every year during the Holy Month, Ramadan 19 marks Zayed Humanitarian Day, which is a tribute to the nation’s founding father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan yesterday, as this day in amadan marks the anniversary of his death in 2004.
As part of a tribute to his late father – who is also considered the Father of the UAE – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, honoured Sheikh Zayed’s “generosity” to the nation.
“On Zayed Humanitarian Day we honour the generosity of our Founding Father, God rest his soul,” he said. “His philanthropic efforts extended across the world, regardless of faith or race, and on this day we renew our efforts to walk along his path of kindness and compassion for all.”

Sheikh Zayed was the pivotal figure who brought about the unification of the seven emirates in 1971 and was also appointed the President of the UAE upon the nation’s inception 50 years ago.
He remained in this position until November 2, 2004, which marked his passing at the age of 86. His total time in office was 32 years and 336 days.
Sheikh Zayed was succeeded by his eldest son, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who has now been the President of the UAE for 17 years and continues on the Founding Father of the UAE’s legacy.
