New measures Emirates is taking as regular flights recommence

As Emirates begin to relaunch regularly scheduled flights, the airline is ensuring every precaution is taken to ensure the health and safety of their crew and passengers.

In a statement from Adel Ad Redba, Chief Operating Officer for Emirates, outlined the airline was “implementing a comprehensive set of measures at every step of the traveller’s journey”.

This will include throughout all stages of a passenger’s travels including in the airport, onboard the flight and for all passengers who are in transit.

“All these measures, in combination with the proactive pandemic management strategies that the UAE has taken, show the seriousness with which we are taking the health and safety of our local and global communities and will give confidence to the public,” the COO said.

At the airport

During check-in at Dubai airport, passengers will be given complimentary hygiene kits. The same applies for anyone on incoming flights to Dubai. The kits include masks, gloves, antibacterial wipes and hand sanitiser, of which masks and gloves are mandatory for all crew and passengers to wear at the airport.

At check-in and immigration counters, protective screens have been installed to limit contact between employees and customers.

Similarly there are thermal scanners in place in certain areas, which will be able to monitor temperatures. As well as this, there are physical distancing indicators in place, to ensure social distancing measures are adhered to at check-in, immigration, boarding and transfer areas.

On the flight

All crew onboard Emirates flights will be wearing full PPE, and toilets will be cleaned every 45 minutes.

As for cabin baggage, everything must be checked-in. For hand luggage only essentials are permitted including laptops, baby items, handbags and briefcases.

Transit passengers

Some passengers may be transiting through Dubai Airport if they are travelling from the UK to Australia or vice versa. Anyone who is in transit will go through a thermal screening process upon disembarking their flight.
