Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki is to star in a new film

Stepping back into her acting shoes.

Actor-turned-filmmaker Nadine Labaki is stepping back in front of camera in a role of a teacher in a film

The debut from director Oualid Mouaness is set at a private school where Labaki plays Yasmeen – a woman trying to keep it together amid the 1982 Siege of Beirut.

Despite Mouaness using the conflict as the backdrop of her story, you never see war. Instead everything is presented through the innocent eyes of children, specifically 11-year-old Wissam who tries to tell a classmate that he loves her.

The film is already gaining momentum and will be one of the Arab productions shown at his year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) which takes place between the 5-15 September.

Labaki became a global name last year after her film  was nominated for several accolades including a BAFTA and an Academy Award.
