“Chase The Sun” Resident DJ Dishes 5 Secrets To Finding Balance With Such A Hectic Schedule

As women, we lead exceptionally busy lives. You’ll often find us on the corner of “Juggle Work Life Avenue, Fitness Road and Side Hustle Way” – while still trying to attend fun social events… like Chase The Sun.

On a serious note, if you’re a mother, your load is possibly twice as much and if you add your young ones’ schedule to the mix, you could feel as though you have two full-time jobs.

Creating a balance doesn’t mean you have life figured out and that everything will go according to plan, every single day – but balance is encouraged for maintaining a healthy life.

Will we ever achieve a healthy ‘balanced’ world, where every move we make is smooth, like a well-oiled machine? Probably not, but we can start somewhere.

spoke to one of our Chase The Sun resident DJs, Anthea Scholtz, about the importance of balance to her as a working woman.

been in the music industry for about 12 years now. Anthea has played at Rocking The Daisies and has graced world stages in Kenya, Ibiza, London and Dubai.

Let’s get real about the nightlife…

“Firstly, I limit the amount of alcohol I drink, and at the moment I don’t drink at all,” she says. Anthea spent two years focusing on building her business and working on being the best version of herself. “I work in the nightlife space and it’s so easy to become lazy, to lose consistency, with the late nights and early mornings,” she says.

Even with her crazy schedule, Anthea wakes up at 5:30am or 6am in the morning to exercise, even if she’s played a gig the night before.

Eat well, live well

When it comes to food, Anthea is very traditional – she loves to sit down to eat her breakfast, lunch and dinner. “I watch what I eat and I focus on eating healthy. I don’t eat red meat. I haven’t eaten red meat since I was 10 years old,” she says.

While Anthea doesn’t eat any sugar or touch alcohol, she does have one weakness… “I must admit, I do have a love for coffee. I drink about four cups a day. I can’t live without [it],” she says. Anthea also hits the gym and does yoga every day. “I cycle or attend SWEAT 1000. Yoga keeps me sane and centred because I work during the day and in the evenings when I have to play,” she says.

Getting in the Zzz’s

“I sleep for eight hours a night, without fail. If I don’t sleep well, I’m a disaster the next day,” says Anthea. She has a rule with her deejaying, that unless she has a corporate event, she doesn’t play after 12. “I make sure I finish playing before midnight,” she says. It’s a rule she swears by.

Non-negotiable beauty regime…

Anthea is pedantic about her skin and she never goes to sleep with make-up on. Ever.

Self care = good boundaries

“You can easily lose yourself in the nightlife industry – I have before. [My current] regime is something I’ve made a conscious effort to follow for the best version of myself,” says Anthea. She used to play very late gigs and admits you can get sucked into it. “I drew the line three years ago. I’ve chosen to focus on my health first. If a gig doesn’t suit me or fit into my routine, I don’t accept it,” she says.
