Adele reveals she’s back on the booze after quitting drinking for her show over fears she was ‘borderline alcoholic’

The singer is worried that she can’t handle wine anymore.ADELE has revealed that her self imposed alcohol ban is over – although she is panicked about her inability to handle wine.
The singer says she plans to celebrate finishing the second leg of her residency at The Colosseum Caesar Palace in Las Vegas with an expensive wine – even though it often gives her shocking headaches.

The London born superstar, who has been four months sober, admitted to fans that her tolerance to wine has diminished badly.
And the Oscar winner even tries to stop getting sozzled by drinking sparkling water with her glasses of wine, which now have ice cubes in them.
Adele opened up on her booze battle after vowing to enjoy the upcoming holiday season after completing a year of critically acclaimed performances in Sin City.

The singer was upset to be suffering from a chesty cold, fever and illness, because it meant she could not celebrate her final performance.
She told the crowd: “I’m just going to chill. I’m annoyed as well that I’m sick because this is red wine weather.
“I stopped drinking, but obviously now I’m ready to start again because it is my break.
“And I can’t drink red wine ever when I’m singing because I don’t know about you, but red wine f***s me up. I cannot handle it.

“I’m a white wine girl, but not straight. But I can’t eat white wine anymore.
“I’m 35 going on 85. I have to have half and half. Half sparkling water and half white wine with ice.
“And I still get f****d. But a glass of red wine tips me over the edge.
“I have the worst hangover, my whole mouth and tongue turns red.
“I look like a disaster and it just gets rid of my voice.”
“So I was planning on drinking a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape this week, but now I can’t because I am sick.”
    ‘SICK AS A DOG’
Adele performed her songs impeccably despite complaining about her sore throat and chest.
“I am sick like a f****** dog. I am f****** annoyed. I woke up this morning and my chest was on fire,” she said.
“I’m hoping I’ll be able to get some codeine from a doctor. They gave it to me a few years ago when I was sick here in America and I loved it. It’s terrible.
“I want to drink the codeine instead.
“So I don’t know what I’m going to do with this. I bought a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a couple of weeks ago to treat myself, but I’ll have to save that for Thanksgiving. I guess that’s what I’m going to do then.”
    BOOZE BAN
Adele made headlines in recent weeks discussing her alcohol consumption in the past.
Last month she told her fans:  “It’s boring. I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my twenties, but I miss it so much. I cut out caffeine.”
Talking to a fan, who’d been drinking all day she added: ‘So enjoy your whiskey sour. I’m very, very jealous.”
During many of her shows at The Colosseum, Adele joked with her audiences: “The more you drink, the better I sound.”
During her Saturday night show, the Tottenham born star became emotional about her success over the course of the last 12 months.
“I  have absolutely loved doing this show and residency,” she said.
“For me it does a little bit feel like the end, even though I have my shows next year.”
    PROUD MUM
However the proud mum to 11-year-old son Angelo, is keeping herself busy immediately this week – by volunteering at her son’s school.
“I have to make 60 chicken kebabs, I’m really thriving at the moment of signing up for things at my child’s school,” she said.
“So I did Halloween bagels and cookies and made sausage rolls and things like that. But I’ve taken it upon myself to be the best at it basically.
“So there’s a school event next week where there’s early giving thanks to the faculty and the teachers and everyone else is just donating money, I’m like, ‘I’m going homemade’.”
Adele also will do a photoshoot for The Hollywood Reporter after being honored with the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at the annual Women in Entertainment breakfast gala in LA on December 7.
She admitted: ” I won a big fancy award. I can’t believe it because everyone else who has ever won is iconic.

“I have only been around for 15 years. But I’m very, very flattered. I have to do a photo shoot for that. So I’m going to do that and then try and look like a leader I guess.”

On Thursday, the mother of three shared the milestone on her Instagram Story.
    SIX YEARS SOBER
“6 years ago,” Jessica wrote proudly.
She linked the story to a November 1, 2021 post, where she celebrated four years of sobriety.
It included a selfie of a much larger version of herself from 2017.

She looked almost unrecognizable in the picture.
Simpson captioned the 2021 post: “This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself. I had so much self-discovery to unlock and explore.
“I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self-respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.
“Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted.”

    UNRECOGNIZABLE
The pop star turned fashion designer is sitting on a couch in a messy room in the photo.
She is wearing a two-piece pink sweatsuit and had on little to no makeup.
She continued, writing: “I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.”
The singer said there is stigma around the world alcoholism and the word alcoholic.
“The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power,” said Simpson.
    TRANSFORMATION
Jessica has since transformed her life in more ways than one.
She lost 100 pounds after she gave birth to her daughter, Birdie Mae, in 2019.
However, sadly, the daughter or a preacher still receives scrutiny for her weight, and her kids have to witness it.
“My kids see me being still scrutinized, and it’s very confusing to them because they’re like, ‘I don’t even understand this. Why don’t they just say you look pretty, mom?” Simpson told Access Hollywood. “I wish I could say for me that it’s gotten better, but it still remains the same.”
    GOODBYE HOLLYWOOD
In the summer of 2023, the With You singer and her family left Hollywood to spend a quiet summer in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jessica is married to former NFL player Eric Johnson. They have three kids together: Maxwell Drew, 11, Ace Knute, 10, and Birdie Mae, 4.
“Being in Nashville, even my kids are like, ‘You laugh the whole time. You’re so happy,'” the singer told E News.
“It’s because I’m not on guard. I’m with a lot of like-minded people. It’s not about the celebrities — it’s really about the music and the heart and the conversation.”
    TAKING BACK HER BRAND
She has also been on a journey to re-launch her billion-dollar fashion brand, the Jessica Simpson Collection, which launched in 2005.
In 2015, Sequential Brands acquired a majority stake in the brand for an undisclosed sum.
The company then filed bankruptcy, and in 2021, a judge approved Jessica’s $65 million bid to for majority stake in the company.
That same year, she told Footwear News: “It means the absolute world to me to be able to take over complete ownership of my brand.”
    SPIRALING
Jessica has been open about her struggles with alcohol.
In an interview promoting Open Book, Jessica revealed to Hoda Kotb how bad her relationship with alcohol and stimulants was over the years.
She said she never intended to hurt anyone with her actions.
She recalled drinking at 7 am on Halloween before she became sober.
She told the Today host: “I had started a spiral and I couldn’t catch up with myself … and that was with alcohol,” Jessica said.
“Every day I would say it, ‘I’ll stop soon. I’ll cut back.’”

She continued: “I completely didn’t recognize myself,” she said.
“I always had a glitter cup. It was always filled to the rim with alcohol. I just realized that I had to surrender. It was time. I had to give it up and I was ready.”

Millennials Are Apparently Now Ditching Booze For Tea

Having a night out celebrating a new job? What’s in your cup might not be champagne, but rather tea, according to a new survey from market intelligence firm Mintel. The report showed that millennials between the ages of 26 and 41 are now ditching booze for tea.

Almost half (49%) of those surveyed in the UK agreed that tea is a good alternative to alcohol, with 55% of millennials likely to ditch booze in favour of a cup of tea. And it’s not just millennials: we know that Gen Z are famous teetotallers.

    So, why the switch?

Among reasons cited is the high cost of living (who can afford that G&T?). “Across the globe, Millennials are going semi-sober and embracing wellness more than any other generation,” says Adele du Toit, spokesperson for the SA Rooibos Council (SARC).

Another big factor? The quest for a healthier lifestyle is driving down alcohol sales and boosting sales for tea.

The sweeping trend of quitting alcohol has caused a seismic shift in nightlife in Europe. According to Forbes Magazine, bars and nightclubs across the US, UK and Europe are suffering as a result. In the last few years, over 10 000 bars have shut down in the US and 6 500 nightclubs have either had to cut back on their hours or close up shop entirely. Nightlife in Europe isn’t what it used to be either. In Britain, nightclubs are closing down, from 3 144 to 1 733, and in the Netherlands, 38% of nightclubs closed their doors.

Millennials are looking after their health

While their parents may have found a good pub crawl to be a titillating social activity, millennials are opting for juice crawls. “The quest for affordable luxuries coupled with the boom in health and foodie culture has already seen vast changes in the tea industry. Even in supermarkets, the shelf space dedicated to standard tea products has shrunk, making way for a larger range of speciality teas and herbal infusions that offer new experiences for discerning tea drinkers,” says Adele.

The tipple most millennials are leaning towards the most? Rooibos. “Last year, Rooibos was voted among the country’s favourite hot beverages in the 2022 Sunday Times GenNext Survey, in which more than 6 000 youth named their coolest products,” says Adele. “Given the wide range of beverage options that the youth of today can choose from, the accolade speaks volumes.”

It makes sense, says Adele. Rooibos is versatile; you can have it hot or cold, in cappuccino form or even in a mocktail. Plus, rooibos contains antioxidants and is free from caffeine.

For those of us looking to drink less booze, the non-alcoholic drink options out there aren’t exactly exciting. Seriously Now, Is Alcohol Really THAT Bad For Your Sleep?

A nightcap may be nice, but is likely to lead to a fragmented night’s rest.
While it is true that booze acts as a sedative, it also disrupts dreams and shakes up the sleep cycle. It reduces time spent in the stage of sleep understood to be the most restorative, the rapid eye movement, or REM, phase. Prolonged use can cause insomnia, sleep apnoea and snoring.
These are the findings of the London Sleep Centre, which has published a review of all known studies on the effect of alcoholic beverages on sleep in healthy volunteers.
    Alcohol: a sleep disruptor
”At all dosages, alcohol causes a reduction in sleep onset latency, a more consolidated first half sleep and an increase in sleep disruption in the second half of sleep,” the authors said in the latest issue of the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research. Lead researcher on the review, Dr Irshaad Ebrahim, told the BBC people should be cautious about using the bottle to send themselves to sleep.
”One or two glasses might be nice in the short term, but if you continue to use a tipple before bedtime it can cause significant problems,” he said. ”If you do have a drink, it’s best to leave an hour-and-a-half to two hours before going to bed so the alcohol is already wearing off.
READ MORE: 21 Best Self-Care Gifts For Her That Go Way Beyond Face Masks
It can also mess with your breathing
”With increasing doses, alcohol suppresses our breathing. It can turn non-snorers into snorers and snorers into people with sleep apnoea – where the breathing’s interrupted.”
Professor Peter Cistulli, the head of sleep medicine at the University of Sydney and director of the Sleep Health Foundation, says there are three reasons for this.
First, alcohol is a muscle relaxant so the throat muscles become vulnerable. Second, the additives in some forms of alcohol, particularly red wine, cause nasal congestion. This means people are more likely to breathe through their mouths and therefore more likely to snore and more prone to sleep apnoea. Third, ”alcohol numbs the brain [so, if for instance] the throat collapses and there is alcohol on board, recognition of that problem is delayed”.
READ MORE: Mindful Drinking: How More And More People Are Becoming ‘Sober Curious’
Booze can mess with deep sleep
From the hundreds of studies assessed by the London Sleep Centre, the most significant finding was the effect of alcohol on REM sleep. This is because the body does not slip into the deeper dreaming sleep state until it has metabolised the alcohol.
”The onset of the first REM sleep period is significantly delayed at all doses and appears to be the most recognisable effect of alcohol on REM sleep followed by the reduction in total night REM sleep,” the researchers said.
REM sleep is still not fully understood, but it is seen as necessary for survival. Reduced REM can also lead to people feeling more fatigued the next day. One British study found almost half of the 2000 drinkers surveyed acknowledged increased tiredness after a drinking session, but 58 per cent did not realise alcohol was the reason. Cistulli said a greater awareness of the effect of alcohol on sleep means people are more able to address sleeping issues.
”Alcohol is a chemical and the brain is a soup of chemicals,” he said. ”Alcohol gets in there and mucks up the soup that is relevant to sleep.”
However, he said the London Sleep Centre review is based on generalisations and ”there are clearly individual variations”. The findings are of most benefit to people who have trouble sleeping and aren’t aware of the impact alcohol is having, Cistulli said. ”Once they start to understand the link, they can start to modify their behaviour.”
