12 Products That Will Help You Beat Seasonal Dryness

If you’ve been following any facet of The Everygirl, you may have come to the overwhelming conclusion that we are absolutely obsessed with the holiday season. The days of snuggling up with hot cocoa and watching Hallmark movies are in full swing, and as the last month of the year approaches, we welcome twinkling lights, cozy home decor, and Christmas cookies with open arms.In my daydreams of December, I’ve romanticized what winter looks like and I’ve forgotten to factor in one unfavorable downfall of crisp air and cool temperatures: dry skin season is upon us, and this year, we simply aren’t letting a dehydrated, itchy exterior ruin our winter.
Whether you’re like me and are already in the woes of seasonal dryness or simply want to stop dry skin in its tracks, it’s important to stock up on all types of moisturizers for the cold, harsh days ahead. I’ve tried approximately one million different products (give or take) that have claimed to lock in moisture to foster soft, glowing skin. After years of seasonally struggling with eczema, chapped lips, a peeling nose, and dry hair, I’ve built up quite the army of moisturizers to treat the most stubborn dry, rough, and dull skin in the game.
Check out these 12 holy grail products that have my back when my skin is *itching* for attention:

    Love Beauty and Planet
    Majestic Moisture Body Wash

Your battle against dry skin starts in the shower. I use this Majestic Moisture body wash made of all-natural ingredients to scrub-a-dub without drying out my skin at step one.

    Nourishing Dry Body Oil

I spritz this dry oil all over my body when I’m fresh out of the shower and in a rush (AKA every day). It’s lightweight and dries quickly so I can put my clothes on within two minutes of applying.

    Moisturizing Cream

I have a lot of go-to moisturizing products, but this moisturizing cream is my absolute favorite. If I could fill up a bathtub of this stuff and take a cool dip in it every night, I would. I lather this on before bed and let it work its magic through the night.

    Hydrating Facial Cleanser

Time and time again, I try new face washes and walk-of-shame back to this hydrating facial cleanser. The only downside to this guy is that it doesn’t lather up (sigh), BUT I continue to use it because it’s the only face wash that doesn’t leave me feeling like Spongebob in the beloved “Sandy, I need water” scene.

    KORA Organics
    Noni Glow Face Oil

OK, I’m not usually one to splurge on beauty products; however, this is my one and only exception because 1) I’m absolutely obsessed, and 2) I find that a little bit of this product goes a long way. I started using this face oil last year, and now I will never use anything else. I use this after my toner/before my moisturizer and I look forward to using it. It smells amazing and leaves my face and neck glowing and so unbelievably smooth.

    Josie Maran
    Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter

This whipped face butter is a dream. come. true. I use it as the last step of my nighttime skincare routine, and it’s basically dessert for my face. It’s hydrating yet non-suffocating and puts in WORK while I’m fast asleep.

    Like Butter

I reach for this healing and soothing mask 2-3 times a week whenever my skin is looking dull and needs a pick-me-up. After cleansing, I apply this to my face, leave it on for 20 minutes, and dab off the excess if any remains. This stuff works really well on other areas of the body so when my eczema decides to show up uninvited, I’ll use Like Butter on my dry spots as well.

    Mrs. Meyer’s
    Lavender Hand Balm

Dry hands, be gone! In addition to dry skin season, we’re also approaching the dreaded cold and flu season. That means we’ll be washing our hands even more frequently (yay!) and simultaneously drying them out (boo). This Mrs. Meyer’s lavender hand balm smells incredible, is soothing, and is conveniently portable.

    Lip Repair

Speaking of products that follow me wherever I go, this Aquaphor lip repair is the lip ointment I’m currently using. By currently using, I mean actually using, right now, at this very moment. This powerful little tube will keep you from looking in the mirror and questioning “Did I black out while applying a mid-day, hot pink lip stain or are my lips just dry, red, and irritated?”

    Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

If there’s one part of my beauty routine that I skimp on in the moisturizing department, it’s my poor, brittle hair. I’m adding this hair mask to my fall/winter beauty routine because moisturized hair makes for healthy, shiny, and bouncy locks.

    Bread Beauty Supply
    Hair Oil Everyday Gloss

Unlike a lot of the hair oils I’ve tried, this hair oil is non-greasy and lightweight. This oil has been my answer to dried out hair, split ends, and frizz and it’s my new hair routine staple! More

I’m an Avid Target Shopper: Here Are The Clothing Pieces I Swear By

If I were to ever consider my relationship with a particular store to be a love affair, it would be with Target (… duh). I swear, the serotonin boost I get from browsing the aisles—or scrolling target.com—is something unmatched by anything else. If I’m having a bad day, Target can make it better.Of course, my absolute favorite section of the store (closely rivaled by home decor) is clothing, shoes, and accessories. I pride myself on being able to find the best prices for trending fashion items, and a huge majority of my absolute favorite affordable clothing pieces are from Target.
Once I find something I love, I simply must have every. single. color. They’re just too good, and the price is unbeatable! I rely heavily on Target for all of my go-to basics, which you will see here. They also have tons of amazing dupes for high-ticket items, which I consider to be my specialty.
Here are six Target clothing pieces I absolutely swear by:

    1. Quilted Jacket

I let out an audible gasp when I first saw this jacket. I’ve been lusting after the $200 Free People quilted jacket for years now, so when I saw this very similar option for $35, I was more than excited. I immediately went to Target to buy it because I simply could not wait for it to be shipped to me. It comes in three colors: mauve (that’s the one I have), olive, and black, and all of them are equally cute. I love to style this with jeans and a mock-neck top, or with leggings and a hoodie for an athleisure look. It’s the perfect lightweight jacket for when you just need a little extra something.

    2. Plaid Pull-on Pants

OK, listen up: if there is one thing you need from this article, it’s these pants. I (like most of the world, I’m sure) have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of pants for working from home. I want comfort and practicality, but I also want to look a little more put-together than if I were to just put on the same pair of joggers I’ve been wearing for three days in a row. Enter: the pull-on pant. When I wear them, I feel cute and chic and as though maybe, just maybe, life is a little bit normal. I only have one pair, but I need more ASAP—I have my eye on the pleated tan pair next.

    3. Ribbed Tank

I have a serious obsession with these tank tops. I wrote about them a few months ago, and I’m not kidding when I say they were by far my #1 most-worn item of summer. I also managed to get many of my coworkers (as well as friends and family) on the “Target tank top” train. So you’re probably like, Jess, it’s winter, why are we talking about summer tank tops? Well, that is because I have not stopped wearing them as temperatures have dropped into the 30s. My new favorite (and cold weather-approved) way to wear them is with joggers (for WFH) or jeans and a cardigan. For some reason, it makes me feel like I tried a little harder than if I were to just wear another plain sweater. If it helps you understand how much I love them, I’ll admit it: I own six of them.

    4. Ribbed Basic Tee

Much like the ribbed tank, these basic tees have become a very important wardrobe staple of mine. I have them in black and “blush brown,” which are both awesome neutrals that go with everything. This is another perfect layering piece for winter—I like to pair one of these with a cardigan, a blazer or jacket, or even under a sweater for some extra warmth. The quality is seriously exceptional for a tee that is under $10, and I reach for them most out of all the basic tees I own (including my more expensive ones!).

    5. Long-Sleeve Ribbed Tee

If you haven’t caught on by now, I’m a little bit obsessed with basics from Target’s brand A New Day. I really believe that the quality is unmatched for the price point. So, when I saw the winter version of my favorite ribbed summer basics, you know I had to jump on it. The material of these long-sleeve tees is so soft, comfortable, and most importantly, thick. So far I only own this one in cream, but if the tanks are an indication, I will own at least five more by the end of winter. Also, can we have a moment of appreciation for the color options?! This comes in seven colors, all of which are so cute for the winter months.

    6. Snakeskin Boots

Last year, I splurged on Black Friday and treated myself to a pair of Dr. Martens platform Chelsea boots. I am obsessed with them, and they were well worth the money given how often I’ve worn them. Then, when I saw these snakeskin boots on Target’s website, I knew I needed to have them as a fresh take on my beloved Docs. These provide a little extra flair that my plain black ones do not, and I have gotten endless amounts of compliments on them. And if snakeskin isn’t your vibe, they also come in black—making for the perfect Dr. Martens dupe. More

The Kitchen Tool Instagram Can’t Stop Raving About Is On Sale This Weekend

Chances are, if you’ve scrolled Instagram within the last few months (have you done much else?), you’ve seen someone raving about a new chic pan that not only can do the job of a ton of the tools in a kitchen, but also looks beautiful enough to sit out on the stove all the time—ideal for small spaces. Our Place’s Always Pan steams, sautés, cooks grains, simmers soups and sauces, fries, and more, all on a non-stick surface that cleans easily. According to our director of brand partnerships who uses her Always Pan for just about everything, the non-stick surface is the real deal. Because it’s such an all-in-one powerhouse, it can replace your fry pan, saucier, skillet, saucepan, non-stick pan, and more. No more using three or four pans just to get dinner on the table—you can do just about everything in this one pan.

Say goodbye to those old, not-so-great pans you bought affordably for your first apartment. The pan even comes with a basket that serves as a colander and steamer and has a a notch on the handle that’s designed to hold your utensil, keeping your counter clean while cooking. The pan comes in six different colors, each more gorgeous than the last, and colors can sell out, so if you’ve been waiting, now’s the time.

Though it’s too late to get the pan in time for Christmas morning (in most colors, at least), the Always Pan would make a truly great gift for anyone in your life who enjoys cooking or has to work with space or storage issues—or a treat for yourself. If you’re looking for more kitchen-related Black Friday deals, Our Place is also featuring its dinnerware collections in various sizes.
A pretty pan that cuts the number of cookware you actually need down to a fraction of what you’d think it’d be? Sign us up. More

Our Favorite Cozy Pieces to Get You Through Winter

Temperatures are dropping, darkness seems like it is happening MUCH earlier than in a usual November, and Netflix Original holiday movies are playing on a loop on our TVs. Yes, that awkward time where it’s not quite winter but it’s not really fall anymore either is here. If there’s one thing I know about this time, it’s that I’m always cold and I only want to wear things that can be classified as extremely cozy. I am embarrassed to admit that I am literally to the point where even putting on leggings is too much work for me (I know, it’s tragic).
That being said, I’ve been on a serious mission to find things that are incredibly comfy, keep me warm, and as mentioned, are extremely cozy. I can imagine that my FBI agent is probably very concerned about why I’ve visited the Aerie website approximately 9,000 times in the past three weeks. So given all the cozy-hunting I’ve been doing, I’ve managed to find some of the best pieces to buy right now to keep you comfortable this winter.

    25 Insanely Cute Holiday Ornaments

Growing up, my mom took a lot of pride in our Fancy Tree. The day after Thanksgiving, she’d trek into the basement, search through a mess of storage boxes, and revive her beloved pre-lit tree for it to make its long-awaited debut. She’d spend hours fluffing it up, trimming it with sparkly whites and golds, and taking steps back with her hands on her hips to admire it from afar. The annual rebirth of Fancy Tree was a symbolic start to the holiday season; it made our house feel like a home straight out of an HGTV commercial.Once Fancy Tree was in business, the real fun began. Enter Fun Tree: our downstairs, faux tree strung with multicolored lights and a collection of ornaments from the time my parents married through my toddler years to the birth of my youngest sibling and beyond. We would put up the ornaments, laughing at the stories behind them, recounting how much we’d grown, and wondering where the time had gone. From a designer’s eye, Fun Tree was a hot mess. To us, it was absolutely perfect.
Whether you prefer your tree to be a Joanna Gaines-worthy masterpiece or a beautiful mess of memories, there’s always room to add a little piece of the present. We’ve rounded up our favorite 2020 ornaments to add to your collection. More

    The Everygirl’s 2020 Budget-Friendly Holiday Gift Guide

The magic of the holiday season has been known to transcend time and space. Feeling off in May? Watch a Christmas movie. To us, The Holiday is a classic all year round. Having a bad day? Listen to Michael Buble’s Christmas album on repeat. You can feel the joy and spirit of the holidays regardless of whether there’s snow on the ground or what your tree looks like. It’s a feeling rather than a time or season. If there was anything we needed to close out 2020, it’s the proof that even after an absolute dumpster fire of a year, the holidays are still as joyful and full as ever, and finding your loved ones the perfect gift to show that you’re caring and thinking about them right now is at the top of our to-do lists. This isn’t to say holiday shopping is going to be any easier this year. We all have indecisive dads (seriously, what the heck do you want, Dad?), picky BFFs, new mom friends, and those dreaded people who seem to already have everything. Plus, with potential shipping delays, less in-store shopping, and an amazing push to support many small and Black-owned businesses this year, the holiday shopping experience might take a little more thought than picking up a few go-to gift cards. So of course, we took extra care when creating our annual budget-friendly holiday gift guide to include only the best-of-the-best. We found the perfect gifts for every single person on your list (perhaps including yourself!) so you can rest easy and enjoy the holiday season with one less 2020 worry on your plate. Most of this list is under $100, and for every splurge, we found an inexpensive alternative or similar item. Pop on some holiday tunes, grab your favorite throw blanket, and switch on your twinkly lights—we’re holiday shopping!

Every Budget-Friendly Piece I’ve Bought for Winter So Far

This fall has been nothing for me if not a rollercoaster of false optimism mixed in with quite a bit (read: a lot) of cabin fever. For a few glorious weeks here in Chicago, we were able to sit outside on patios and leave our homes (socially-distanced, of course), and it felt like there was light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel—but alas, that was, of course, a mirage. All this to say that, I write about fashion for my job, so I obviously love trends and clothes and figuring out my wardrobe when new seasons come. So when many were on the train of only wearing joggers, as they should have been, my mind played tricks on me and let me plan out some outfits for winter that may not see the light of day (but there’s always next year!).
From matching sets to fun joggers to some new jeans (I told you, cabin fever!), these are the things I’ve added to my wardrobe for fall and winter—even if it means the only way anyone sees them is if I do an outfit change between every course on Thanksgiving for only my parents to see.

I ordered this sherpa on Amazon one day when I was freezing cold and hadn’t found a new winter coat I loved yet, and it is quite literally one of my favorite things of the year. It’s more of a sweatshirt-level warmth (it isn’t a coat by any means), but I wear it around my apartment with leggings every single day, and every day it continues to wrap me in a soft, cozy hug and bring me joy. I loved the camel so much I ordered it in black too so I had one in case the camel one was in the wash. This is, by far, my favorite purchase of the past few months—and it’s $30.

As I previously disclosed, I did the opposite of what society has chosen to do and made the ill-informed decision to begin my hunt for the perfect pair of jeans a few weeks ago. I placed an order of literally eight pairs in all different sizes from Zara just to be able to try some on, and these are actually so comfortable that I’ve been wearing them for my quarantined life. They’re so soft and comfortable and flattering and wearing them to the grocery store is a joy.
I struggle a lot with finding straight-leg jeans that fit my body right, but these are amazing. I would definitely recommend sizing up one size in these.

During my jean excursion, I had only planned on keeping one pair, but these were such a rare gem that I kept them too. I. love. these. jeans. I had to order two sizes up (I literally could not get my normal size above my thighs), but they are also so comfortable and flattering, and I’m a sucker for a raw hem and button fly. If you, too, feel the need to add jeans to your wardrobe this winter, I couldn’t recommend either of these enough (and they are both super affordable).

I got a targeted ad for this matching set so many times that it felt like it was God’s will for me to have it. I love wearing this on work-from-home days, of which I have worn it four out of my last five. It definitely helps me mentally to not feel super sloppy throughout the day, and this takes me from Zoom meetings to my afternoon nap seamlessly.

If 2020 did one single thing right, it’s fun joggers. These are a jogger material but are made of corduroy, which defies all explanation and is something I don’t feel the need to question.
My exact pair is from Gap and is sold out in some sizes, but Nordstrom now has a very similar pair which will hopefully lead the masses to experience this joy.

If there is one thing that I love above all else in my wardrobe, it is my jackets. I choose them strategically and treasure them, and they are the glue that holds my outfits together—and it’s very rare that one speaks to me in the way this one did. I never would have gotten it based on Zara’s picture of it, but I saw it on a blogger on Instagram and knew I would wear it for years to come. It’s fun and completely unique, and I’m so excited to be able to wear it to death in the future. (Pro tip: this runs absolutely huge. This is an XS, which I never get, and is still quite large).

This very ’70s print was one of H&M’s gems of the year, and I loved the thought of wearing this with tights and my knee-high boots. I wear my dresses to death but don’t see many I love very often, so I know I’ll be getting a ton of use out of this bad boy.

This turtleneck makes me laugh in that it makes me feel like I’m wearing Kim Kardashian’s couch dress from the 2013 met gala, but it also makes me a bit fonder of it. I love wearing a thin turtleneck with joggers throughout the day and to have them to wear under jackets, and this was a nice detour from my collection of plain black ones.

As we know, faux leather is the hottest thing since sliced bread this year, and I took it upon myself to find a pair that was both affordable and high-quality. After much, much trial and error and many trips to USPS to send return packages, I found these. I sized up, but they are such a good fit and are such a fun, versatile addition to your wardrobe that can be worn next year too (and the year after that, and the year after that). More
