      GMB host Kate, 56, revealed she held his hand as he passed away in a moving Instagram post.
      Writing in his New! column, about the tragic news, Peter said his “heart goes out to both her and the family”.
      He said: “I was so sad to hear that Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper died after a long battle with Covid-19.

      “Kate is a really lovely person and my heart goes out to both her and the family.
      “As I said when I spoke about it on GB News, Derek was one of the real stories of Covid and we saw the impact the disease could have on someone.
      “It’s such a sad time, but I hope Kate is able to find comfort knowing that he is at peace now and no longer in pain.”
      The dad-of-four added: “Kate wasn’t only a carer to Derek, but also had to adopt the role of both mum and dad to her kids, Darcey and Billy. Sending love to them all.”

      But it now seems that Ranvir, 46, and Louis, 28, have taken a big step in their relationship.
      He is 18-years younger than his girlfriend, and they met when he worked behind the scenes of her series of Strictly Come Dancing.
      Other credits in the industry include Soccer Aid and Channel 4’s hit cooking show, Come Dine With Me.
      In a new interview, Ranvir opened up on her relationship with the star as she shared details about her personal routine at home.

      She told The Telegraph: “[At 5:30am] I try to talk myself back to sleep but it doesn’t always work. I get up, make a decaf tea and start chopping an onion for a dahl for lunch
      “My partner Louis is terrible. He always hits snooze every ten minutes – it drives me mad!”
      She already lives with her 10-year-old son Tushaan, whom she shares with her ex-husband Ranjeet Singh Dehal, and her older mother.
      She admits that after breakfast, the family like to take their dog out for a walk together, where she is not afraid to go completely natural in front of her partner.

      “[At 11am] Quick shower and then out for a family dog walk with our cockerpoo, Shmizzels, in the Chiltern Hills.
      “At this time of year I live in my knee-high furry UGG boots – they’re my best investment! I’m make-up free at the weekend and don’t care what I look like.”
      Although she seems invested in her romantic relationship, she admits that her busy career has taken somewhat of a toll on her personal life.
      The TV presenter admits that she relishes the weekend as she gets to spend quality time with her son.
      “Saturdays are our precious time together,” she confessed.
      “He missed me in the mornings while I was working hard as a TV political editor around the world.
      “I was working 18-hour days, I was literally caning it while I had a little child at home. I felt the need to achieve and prove myself – I still do.”
      But she also admitted that both Louis and her son have developed a close bond, so much so they even exclude her from activities.
      “I’d love to say I spend a wintery evening in, playing family board games, but in reality, Louis and Tushaan play video games and I’m excluded!”
      She added: “Sometimes we go to the cinema and Nando’s but we also love watching At Home With The Furys on Netflix.”

      The pair first encountered one another when he was a production secretary on the long-running BBC dancing show in 2020.

      KATE Garraway has shared an update after the death of her husband Derek Draper. Derek, 56, who became known as the nation’s longest-suffering Covid patient, died last week after a four-year ordeal.

      Last week Kate revealed she will be “taking time to heal” after losing her husband.
      And now she has given her Good Morning Britain colleagues an update.
      Ben Shepard this morning told how fans have stopped him on the street several times with condolences to pass on to Kate.
      He added: “Stories like that that I have been reciecing through my DMs and on the street has been so overwhelming and that’s what Kate said.
      “She just can’t explain how important that has been for her, to know there’s so much support for what she’s been through.
      “She said she’s sort of been in a strange bubble of her own numbness and grief at the moment.”
      In March 2020, Derek was rushed to hospital due to a Covid infection, which sparked years of heartbreaking health battles.
      After being taken to hospital, Derek spent 214 days on a ventilator, nearly four months in an induced coma and lost eight stone, as well as his ability to speak properly.

      After he moved back home in April 2021, Derek required round the clock care and was rushed back to hospital with “life-threatening” sepsis in August the following year.
      Following this, Derek was struck down with more ill-health.
      In December 2023, Kate was by her husband’s side once more after he suffered a huge heart attack.
      Sadly, last week, he passed away following his ongoing health battle.
      Kate revealed she held her husband’s hand as he passed away in a moving Instagram post.
      She wrote: “I’m sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away.
      “As some of you may know he has been critically ill following a cardiac arrest in early December which, because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications.
      “Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed.
      “I have so much more to say, and of course I will do so in due course, but for now I just want to thank all the medical teams who fought so hard to save him and to make his final moments as comfortable and dignified as possible.
      “Sending so much love and thanks to all of you who have so generously given our family so much support. Rest gently and peacefully now Derek, my love, I was so lucky to have you in my life.”

      It is understood he died at a North London hospital on Wednesday.
      She had kept a 24/7 vigil at the hospital where he was being treated after suffering a heart attack in December.
      This included spending Christmas Day with the former political aide and their two children Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14.

      At the time, a source said: “It’s been a heartbreaking time for Kate and, of course, poor Derek.
      “Sadly, his condition remains much the same.
      “The children are aware of the situation and have been by their dad’s bedside as much as possible.
      “The whole family is rallying around and trying to stay strong for one another.

      “At Christmas time, this is especially devastating.”
      Derek was plagued by devastating health problems after contracting the virus at the start of the pandemic in 2020.
      He became the nation’s longest suffering Covid patient after spending 13 months in hospital.
      The former political adviser was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack on December 11.
      Kate, who wed Derek in 2005, has tirelessly juggled caring for him while working her TV and radio jobs, as well as raising their two children.
      She also adapted their North London home and fronted two acclaimed ITV documentaries about her husband.
      In a moving tribute announcing Derek’s death, Kate said: “I’m sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away.
      “As some of you may know he has been critically ill following a cardiac arrest in early December which, because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications.

      Speaking to the Ameliarate Through Wine podcast, he said: “They’ve asked me constantly, Torvill and Dean, to do it, which is very flattering.
      “They believe that everyone with a bit of dedication and a bit of heart can do it, but I have such a fat head, which is quite common in television I’m told, large heads. I look like a Pez dispenser.
      “My centre of gravity is so high I can’t stand on ice, never mind skate on it, but put me in a Cuban heel and I’m fine on a dance floor.”

      What is the latest on Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper?
      Brave Kate has been keeping the public updated on her husband’s condition ever since he was first diagnosed with Covid.
      Derek was left in a critical condition after he caught the virus in early 2020 and spent 13 months in hospital – making him Britain’s longest suffering Coronavirus victim.
      He has since been battling a variety of health problems after the virus caused brain inflammation, kidney failure, and damage to his liver and pancreas.
      On December 16, 2023, it was reported that Kate was by Derek’s side as he fights for his life after suffering from a huge heart attack.

      Kate has cancelled all TV and radio work to keep a 24-7 vigil, taking an indefinite leave of absence from presenting.
      Following Derek’s health update, a source said: “Everyone is praying for a miracle.
      “Derek suffered a massive heart attack earlier this week which has left him fighting for his life all over again.
      “It was sudden and a shock as he had been doing so well and was in great spirits, looking forward to Christmas at home with the family.

      “This setback has been a huge blow for his family and all the people caring for him.
      “Kate is by his side 24 hours a day and is willing him on to win this latest battle for his life.  
      “Derek has fought so many times, and always, against all odds, come out the other side.
      “Kate has been utterly incredible — by his side while being an amazing mum to Darcey and Billy, and trying to manage their expectations of a family Christmas.”
      Prior to this, in June 2023 Derek watched on as his Good Morning Britain star wife was awarded an MBE.
      He attended the ceremony at Windsor Castle on June 28, where Kate was presented the award by Prince William for her services to broadcasting, journalism and charity.
      However, just days after Kate received her MBE, she revealed that Derek was rushed to hospital after the happy occasion.
      Writing a lengthy statement on Instagram, Garraway revealed how her husband ended up back in hospital – and would have return to the ward again as his “struggle continues”.
      Reflecting on her MBE, Kate told fans: “Well what a week, that started with Derek in hospital and ended with Derek in hospital, but with this extraordinary day in the middle.
      “I am so incredibly moved and humbled by the whole experience. So many of you have sent so many lovely messages, including the lady who stopped her car a few minutes ago outside our house to say ‘I know what you’re going through, and I know how much that moment meant and I am a nurse.’
      “It was so wonderful to see Derek’s determination to be there. So kind of the Prince of Wales, to make it special for him and to recognise the work of Jake our incredible carer, who represents all those who make Derek’s daily life possible.
      “And of course my long-suffering mum and dad.
      “It was also so humbling to meet all the others, much more deserving than myself, who were there to receive their honours.
      “The Prince of Wales managed to make every single one of them feel as special as they are.
      “Tomorrow Derek is back in hospital and of course the daily struggles go on – but the fact that he was able to be part of Wednesday is to be treasured and I can’t thank everyone in the NHS and all around him who love him for making it possible.”
      The couple’s outing to Windsor Castle came a few weeks after Kate, who shares daughter Darcey and son Billy with Derek, revealed that her husband was able to communicate by whispering.
      Kate has documented Derek’s recovery in a number of documentaries.
      In them, it emerged that she survives on around four hours of sleep, often getting up every two hours at night to help the carer move Derek.
      She washes and changes his bed linen at least seven times a day.

      During the episode, Louis asks AJ: “Do you think you could take me?”
      The boxer laughs as he insists he could – before adding: “I could actually get you a fight it will do well.
      “You’d bring viewers to my broadcasting channel.”

      Asked who he’d put Louis up against, TalkTV host Piers Morgan’s name is thrown around.
