Oscar nominations 2024: One where Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were left out

Lifeby Ruman Baig1 hour ago As the 96th Academy Awards nominations were announced, the film industry was abuzz with a mix of anticipation and surprise.Among the unexpected highlights was the dominance of ‘Oppenheimer,’ a film that secured a staggering 13 nominations, overshadowing even the much-anticipated ‘Barbie,’ which managed to snag only eight nods. The most glaring omission for ‘Barbie’ was in the Best Director category, where the talented Greta Gerwig failed to secure a nomination. Additionally, Margot Robbie, who delivered a noteworthy performance in the film, missed out on the Best Actress nod. This unexpected snub has undoubtedly become a focal point of discussions surrounding this year’s Oscar race.Contrastingly, Emma Stone-starrer ‘Poor Things’ earned significant recognition with 11 nominations, proving to be a dark horse in the competition. Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ also stood strong with 10 nods. One of the most groundbreaking moments in this year’s nominations was the acknowledgment of Lily Gladson, who received a Best Actress nomination for her role in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon.’ Gladson’s nomination not only celebrates her individual achievement but also marks a historic moment as the first Native American to be recognized in this prestigious category. The Oscar nominations are often marked by unexpected twists, and this year is no exception. While ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Poor Things’ emerged as strong contenders, ‘Barbie’ faced an unforeseen setback, raising questions about the criteria used in the selection process. The absence of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie from the Best Director and Best Actress categories, respectively, has fueled debates within the industry, reminding us that the unpredictability of the Oscars is part of what makes the ceremony so captivating for audiences around the world.– For more on luxury lifestyle, news, fashion and beauty follow Emirates Woman on Facebook and InstagramFeature Image: Instagram @margotrobbieofficial More

The Archies: Highlights from the star-studded premiere

    Life

    by Ruman Baig

Zoya Akhtar’s rendition of the classic comic series, The Archies, starring the next-gen of Bollywood is all set to release on Netflix on December 7, 2023.
Ever since the ZNMD director announced this ambitious project last year, the speculation around it has been at an all-time high. Zoya’s filmography has always been about original stories – to watch the director touch a subject that has been told multiple times, in different eras, through different forms caused an obvious stir of intrigue around the project.
The cherry on top of this Riverdale-based milkshake was the star caste she hand picked. 3 out of the 7 lead characters in the movie belong to legacy film families – Suhana khan (daughter of Bollywood superstar Sharukh Khan), Agastya Nanda (grandson of legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan), Khushi Kapoor (daughter of late icon Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor). The remaining four include young actors Vedang Raina, Aditi Dot, Yuvraj Menda and Mihir Ahuja, who are also making their debut with this much-awaited film.
Last night, the movie was premiered at the NMACC in Mumbai and here are the highlights of the event:
Khushi Kapoor paid tribute to Sridevi

The 23-year-old new-age actor began her journey in Bollywood by paying a homage to her late mother. For the priemier of The Archies, Khushi opted for the same gold strapless gown by Kaufman Franco, that late Sridervi wore in 2013 for an award ceremony.
SRK escorting Suhana to the red carpet

Known as the most thorough gentleman of Bollywood, Sharukh Khan played a dutiful father, as he accompanied one of the star of the night a.k.a his daughter on the red carpet. Always the centre of attraction within the khan family, it was heart-warming to see the mega star step aside and pave the way for his daughter.
    Three generation of the Bachchans

For the Bachchans, it was a family affair on the red carpet. From Shweta Bachchan-Nanda to the Jaya Bachchan, everyone rallied on the red carpet around Agastya Nanda, who played the tituliar role in this film. In one of the social media posts by Netflix, three generactions of actors from the Bachchan family were captured together – Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Agastya Nanda – the grandfather and uncle beamed with pride in the same frame.
All the stars descended on the red carpet

You know it’s a Zoya Akhtar film when the who’s who of Bollywood can be seen in attendance. Whether it was her filmmaker friend Karan Johar, her brother actor-producer Farhan Akhtar or other industry heavy weights like Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
    Friends like family

Female actors have notoriously pitted against each other for the sake of gossip and drama, which makes their support for each other’s work even more special. Suhana Khan, Ananya panday and Shanaya Kapoor are childhood friends – on Suhana’s big night, both Ananya and Shanaya were seen cheering for their friend.
The cast basking in the glory of appreciation

After the curtains went down and the premiere of the film was over, a photograph of the cast, standing in the centre of a thunderous applaud has been captured. After a year of conjecture around their credibitly due to their pedigree, it must have been encourging to be on the receiving end of this.
