I’m a plastic surgeon – this is what stars like Tom Cruise & Elon Musk get done, from fillers to nose jobs

HE’S the star who appears to be ageing backwards – just like his film character Benjamin Button. But an aesthetics expert has speculated that Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt may have had a secret facelift.

Dr Jonny thinks Brad’s ability to age backwards could all be down to a quick trip to a top surgeon (pictured here in 2020)Credit: Getty
After studying two snaps of the actor – one on the red carpet in 2020 and one from Wimbledon earlier this year – Dr Jonny Betteridge, who runs jbaesthetics.com in London, says the changes to his appearance are “significant”.
“To have that degree of lift to the face and contour, especially in the mid and lower face, you can’t achieve those results through non-surgical methods,” he told The Sun.
While the actor has remained tight-lipped about how he stays looking so youthful – and there is no suggestion Brad has gone under the knife – other famous stars have felt the pressure to look perfect.
Some have even spoken frankly about their surgery experiences.

Here plastic surgeon Tunc Tiryaki, consultant plastic surgeon at the Cadogan Clinic, analyses the striking looks of male stars – from fillers and facelifts… to just good genes.
    Zac Efron, 36
When the High School Musical actor appeared very different in 2021, fans speculated the heartthrob may have gone under the knife.
But his friend Kyle Sandilands denied this, saying: “It’s like getting a Picasso and having a kid finger paint all over it. Why bother?”
But Mr Tiryaki says while Efron might not have had surgery, he did look different, adding: “It looks like he has had dermal fillers in the cheeks, lips and jawline.”

    Simon Cowell, 64
Simon Cowell admitted overdoing the Botox while filming X Factor
The X Factor boss’s face has changed since he first rose to fame for his cutting comments on the talent show.
He says some of fans’ shock is down to too many anti ageing injections.
He told the Mirror: “I love watching ‘the Botox years’. All of us are like, ‘Christ, we had a lot that year. Not so much that year… maybe a bit too much that year’.”
Mr Tiryako said: “He’s certainly had Botox on the forehead. But he has possibly had cheek and jawline fillers, and potentially a facelift too.”
    Tom Cruise, 61

In more recent snaps, the swelling to his face appears to have diminishedCredit: Getty
The Mission Impossible actor had dental work to help his career reach dizzying heights, but previously told Playboy of surgery: “I haven’t, and I never would.”
In October 2021, he was spotted at a basketball game with an unusually puffy face, which Mr Tiryaki suspected could be down to fillers or a steroid treatment.
He said: “He was doing very well for a long time, possibly using systemic anti-ageing treatments.”
In more recent snaps, the swelling to his face appears to have diminished.
    Elon Musk, 52
Billionaire Elon Musk has had hair treatment to combat his balding noggin
The South African billionaire has gained a lot since starting company PayPal in 2000.
Not only is he richer than most, his thatch has thickened out nicely too.
Mr Tiryaki said: “As far as hair transplantation goes, this is the gold standard. It looks very natural and well done.”
    Daniel Craig, 55
Daniel Craig’s appearance at the BAFTAS in 2018 led to speculation from fans
The Bond actor appeared at the BAFTAs in 2018 looking noticeably different than before.
His appearance led fans to speculate whether he had Botox or fillers, with one quipping: “That frozen face will endure minimal . . . Eyefall.”
Some said he appeared “plastic” as he presented an award on stage, but Mr Tiryaki disagreed.
He said: “If Daniel has had anything done, it’s been done in a very natural way. It’s impossible to tell.”
    Craig Revel Horwood, 59
The Strictly judge has told how he had a nose job and man boob reduction
Strictly judge Craig has spoken publicly about having a nose job aged 18 and an operation to remove his moobs.
Craig told podcast White Wine Question Time: “When I took the bandages off, I just started crying in the mirror because it was the first time I’d had a flat chest.”
Mr Tiryaki said: “We know Craig had a nose job in his youth and also a procedure to help his gynecomastia.
“He is likely to have had a touch of mid-face filler and forehead Botox.”
    Mickey Rourke, 71
Mickey Rourke said his boxing led to him having his face reconstructed
Diner actor Rourke saw his love of boxing ruin his good looks.
He says his nose was reconstructed using cartilage from his ear.
He told the Daily Mail in 2009: “I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together.”
Mr Tiryaki said: “A lot of this work has been reconstructive as Mickey says – for example, rebuilding his broken nose. However there are signs of a face lift and lip filler here, too.”
    Marc Jacobs, 60
Fashion designer Marc Jacobs charted his facelift online for his fans
Designer Marc Jacobs told his fans about getting his facelift over Instagram with caption “#LiveLoveLift”.
Marc told Vogue shortly after: “Yes, I’m vain. I find there is no shame in being vain.”
Mr Tiryaki said: “Marc has been extremely honest about the work he’s had done. And he’s clearly chosen a skilled surgeon.
“This is a very neat facelift which has been beautifully executed.”
Two million men considering treatmentFigures from cosmetic clinic Uvence found two million men in the UK are considering a cosmetic treatment – with nonsurgical treatments which target the jawline, chin, and neck among the most popular.
Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Cadogan Clinic Tunc Tiryaki says he saw a 17 per cent increase on male procedures and treatments from 2020 to 2022.
He says men are being sold on plastic surgery as celebs show off the results.
Mr Tiryaki said: “Seeing celebrities, and social figures having surgery makes it more acceptable for them.
“Second, they are having more and more information on this topic and are getting convinced that they will look natural. This is the most important thing for male patients.”
But keeping men looking young comes with its own set of challenges.
Mr Tiryaki added: “Male plastic surgery is more delicate than female procedures.
“The first reason is even slight overcorrections have a feminising effect on facial procedures.
“On the other hand, female patients have a deeper understanding of the nature of aesthetic procedures, given the fact that they are dealing with these issues for longer time.
“They are more open to talk and discuss with their friends.”

How 71 year-old supermodel Marie Helvin bounced back from cancer for her most sizzling lingerie shoot ever

AGE before beauty is not a maxim you can often apply to the world of fashion – so it’s refreshing to see Marie Helvin prove that ageing can be very beautiful indeed. The supermodel, 71, looks sensational in a new campaign for British lingerie brand Bluebella, in provocative outfits that prudes will no doubt deem decidedly non age-appropriate.

The defiant star, a 12-time Vogue cover girl, said: ‘I’m not ready to retire yet’Credit: Bluebella
But why shouldn’t a woman in her eighth decade embrace her sexy side and celebrate her body? Especially when that body has been through so much — in Marie’s case, a mastectomy in 2022 as treatment for breast cancer.
The defiant star, a 12-time Vogue cover girl, said: “I’m not ready to retire yet. Who says a woman can’t model lingerie in her 70s? I refuse to be defined and discriminated against because of my age.
“It makes me so angry that women are ignored and become invisible after 60. Marketing execs and brands are fixated on women in their 20s and 30s, and ignore women past that age. This has got to stop.”
She’s got a point. Scroll through the lingerie catalogue of any high street shop and you will be confronted with the taut abs and perky breasts of fresh-faced models.

Meanwhile, celebs such as Rihanna, 35, Kim Kardashian, 43, and even Maura Higgins, 33, are making multimillions from stripping down to their smalls.
Anyone would think getting older is something to be ashamed of rather than a privilege to be embraced.
Even good old M&S, where one in three British women buy their bras, most famously models its undies on the incredibly youthful Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, 36 — who bears little resemblance to their average customer.
The brand launched a bold campaign last year featuring plus-size Nicola Griffin, 63, sadly now nowhere to be seen.

Speaking of negative comments online, Nicola said: “They feel, I presume, that only younger women with six-packs and glowing skin have a right to be semi-naked.
“Everyone else like me with a normal ageing body should be out of sight and, presumably, out of mind.”
So all hail the likes of Marie and Nicola, refusing to shuffle off quietly into a world of elasticated waists and boring bras.
See also Kim Cattrall, 67, who oozed sex appeal as she modelled shapewear for Skims, and Lauren Hutton who, at 73, outshone younger stars in 2017 stripping off for Calvin Klein.
They prove what most older women already know — there’s nothing sexier than the confidence you get with age and a life well lived.

At 56 I feel sexier than ever – and I’ve learned the golden rules of feeling good about myself, says Ulrika Jonsson

LADIES! Women! Girls! I am the bearer of amazing news: Ageing is “fab-u-lous”.Better still, it’s one of the sexiest and most underrated things since sliced bread.
Ageing is the sexiest thing since sliced bread, as celebs like J-Lo proveCredit: Greg Swales / J Lo Beauty
Ulrika Jonsson says she feels sexier than ever at 56Credit: The Sun
Granted, sliced bread may not on the face of it seem particularly sexy but, as if we needed reminding, TV and Radio presenter Anita Rani says that at 46 she has never felt “better, sexier, more powerful and more excited about the future” than she does now.
She feels empowered by being older and able to do what the hell she wants.
In short, as the told The Sun on Sunday’s Fabulous magazine, she’s having an awakening.
Of course, it’s not the physical beauty radiating from her that is the most appealing, it’s the beauty and strength within her that makes her so darn sexy and that is at the heart of her new-found sassiness and self-belief.
    READ MORE ON ULRIKA JONSSON
And there can be nothing sexier, surely, than a woman who knows what she wants?
It is this — and mainly this — that is so enticing, so erotic and so arousing. It radiates and exudes beauty and attraction.
I’ve lost count of the number of men who tell me they find an older woman more appealing.
    It’s not about me, truly.
    Most read in Celebrity
It’s about the prospect, for them, of being around a woman who has found herself, who is capable of being fearless and independent.
It’s about having experience, the experience of life that ageing brings.
For generations, we’ve been led to believe that ageing is the final and literal nail in the coffin of what it is to be a woman.
Society has perpetuated the mantra that only young women can be sexy and beautiful.
    I won’t go quietly
We’ve looked to youth for seductiveness and temptation and in so doing we’ve completely overlooked those of us who are on what has always been considered to be the wrong side of 40.
For too long we’ve been seen as less attractive, less desirable and definitely less inviting.
In fact, for generations, those of us over 50 haven’t even been seen at all because the uncomfortable truth is that women “of a certain age” have always been sidelined and ignored.
As soon as we had served our purpose in life (which was always supposedly having children), we were thrown on the rubbish heap or forced to get our purple rinses, don our beige macs and merge into the background of life.
And if you hadn’t had kids, you were considered to have been left on the shelf.
    You just couldn’t win.
    But no more.
Collectively, we are now changing the narrative sur- rounding ageing and finally beginning to own the many benefits that come with it.
We are finding our voices, we’re strutting our stuff, we’re showing off our bodies.
And it’s all because we have come to realise that we are still very much alive and kicking.
As I have said countless times before, I, for one, am not prepared to go quietly into old age.
This may not sit well with some.
Many want women to age gracefully, toe the line and not upset the status quo.
But most of us are discovering there is life in the old birds yet and we are determined to squeeze every drop of naughtiness, provocation and titillation out of life that we can.
Mainly because we’ve flaming well earned it.
Like Anita, you don’t have to have had kids to feel liberated by the prospect of suddenly finding yourself in a more mature and independent landscape that comes with age.
It is clear she believes she is blossoming.
Her marriage of 14 years came to its natural conclusion and now she feels liberated by the thought that people know she is single.
Anita Rani is going through a personal Renaissance at 46, following her recent splitCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
For many women, that shift happens because they realise they want something else from life or, better still, they want more.
You don’t have to have endured child bearing and child rearing to be experienced.
In fact, those women who choose not to have kids probably know their minds in a more wilful and developed way, because they’ve been prepared to challenge the world’s expectation and society’s norms.
I always knew I wanted to have children and I feel blessed that I was able to make that happen.
But I can’t deny there was a very strong feeling that ran through my thirties and forties that, once I got beyond child-bearing age, I might somehow lose my purpose in life.
Yet turning 40 was something I temporarily relished. It was kinda cool to be 40, I thought.
Outwardly, I was not old enough to be considered past it and, inwardly, I had a few more years of knowledge and practice which would stand me in good stead.
Then came the onslaught of the menopause, which turned my mind and body upside down.
I almost felt that life as I knew it was over.
But the best thing about that sentence is that it really was. It was like the shedding of a skin, a reawakening and most definitely an upgrade.
While I battled hard against the effects of the menopause, I’ve now decided, aged 56, that I feel sexier than ever.
Easy to say, perhaps, but it really is the truth. The “sexiness” I’m talking about doesn’t come from an LBD, sexy underwear, heavy make-up or a new trendy hairdo.
It comes from deep within. It stems from acknowledging that I now truly know what I want in life — it’s not something that is blurred by the lines of demanding offspring or an inept partner or even a desire to please other people.
No, it comes from understanding that I no longer have time for BS in my life.
If it comes near me, I dismiss it because, quite frankly, this time is about me.
It’s little wonder, then, that I had a sexual revolution in what might be deemed to be the “autumn” of my life — my fifties.
Not only did I feel sexier, more desirable and more desired but I was in a position to act on it because I’d freed myself from the shackles of marriage and nippers.
I’m not suggesting y’all go and break up your marriages or ignore your children, but there is something very freeing about forging a life that is about you, where you play the central role.
And while I wouldn’t dream of comparing myself to any other woman on the planet, I know I’m not alone in discovering sexiness in my fifties.
Just feast your mince pies on J-Lo, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry or, my absolute crush, Sandra Bullock.
They’ve all got it in barrelfulls.
I know they’re blessed with loadsamoney, a bevy of assistants, dieticians and PTs, but that’s not where they get their bewitching hotness from.
It comes from embracing the ageing process, acknowledging their bodies for what they have become and understanding that their appeal is deeper, more real, more substantial and more exciting than it was when they were in their twenties.
Of course, we haven’t cared much about how men age.
We’ve accepted that they’re likely to develop their dad bods and their salt-and-pepper hair.
We’re even OK that they become grumpy and their need for a mid-life crisis, more often than not involving fast cars and younger women.
We’ve been far less accepting of women ageing.
The old adage that, just like fine wines, we women do get better with age, is actually true, because we find our true selves and start on a new journey.
That journey is one of confidence and assertiveness which, in turn, transforms into allure and magnetism.
And, let me tell you, it’s the biggest aphrodisiac out there.
If I could bottle it, it would put Viagra out of business quicker than you can say sex appeal.

How SHA Wellness launched the world’s first anti-ageing bed for total regerenation

Dr. Vicente Mera, Head of Internal Medicine and Anti-Ageing, Anti-Tobacco and Sleep Medicine at SHA Wellness Clinic on the latest advances in wellness.
Talk us through your career to date.
I am a Spanish senior consultant physician and specialist in Internal Medicine, trained at the Clinica Puerta de Hierro (Madrid, Spain) after more than 30 years of clinical bedside practice in hospitals. Fifteen years ago, I obtained (London, UK and Melbourne, Australia) the registration (ABAARM) of A4A and became the head of the Anti-ageing Department at SHA Wellness Clinic. In recent years, I have dedicated my practice to preventing, diagnosing, and treating accelerated ageing on the clinical ground. My practical expertise includes genomics, microbiota, physical training, sleep medicine, cognitive disorders, immunotherapy, hormonal replacement, healthy nutrition, detoxifying procedures, stress management, and regenerative and revitalising medicine to give more life to years, rather than more years to life. I look at the Eastern methods for healthy ageing treatments, mainly related to nutrition and stress management, with great interest as a helpful counterpart. In October 2022, I received a European Medical Award in Medicine for the category of “Anti- ageing Medicine” in Paris. I am the author of several articles published in academic journals of medicine, as well as my latest book, “Joven A Cualquier Edad” (English version -Young At Any Age- coming soon)

SHA Wellness Clinic provides the latest advances in Western medicine – was this key from the outset?
SHA Wellness Clinic exists today as the result of a transformative personal health experience under- gone by the destination’s founder, Alfredo Bataller Parietti. Bataller Parietti was unfortunate to receive a troubling diagnosis from a doctor, that was a threat to his quality of life. Alfredo was able to overcome the condition with integrative medicine, in particular with healthy and healing nutrition, natural therapies and lifestyle changes. Inspired by his experience, Bataller Parietti, along with the support of his family, set out to create a unique project that combined techniques and therapies from both medical and natural therapies to help people have longer and better-quality lives. This is the founding concept of SHA Wellness, which was founded in 2008 near Altea Bay in Spain. Since its opening, the property’s team of certified medical and wellness experts has successfully merged ancient philosophies with the latest advances in Western and Eastern medicine to generate scientifically proven results and become a world-leading authority on preventive health. Today, SHA Wellness Clinic is a global pioneer in preventive medicine and holistic wellness. The SHA 360o SHA method is the term given to the fusion of the latest advances in scientific medicine with the most effective and proven natural therapies, combined with healthy and balanced nutrition, that collectively provide an ideal state of health.
The clinic has the world’s first anti-ageing bed – tell us more.
To further enhance guest sleep experience, SHA has incorporated the HOGO sleep system which can be found exclusively at the Presidential and Royal suites. This is a new and improved mattress concept that instantly improves the quality of sleep, promotes mental balance, reduces stress and cell regeneration, and enhances overall daily functionality. This innovative invention also helps to reverse the signs of ageing and encourages the body’s natural ability to regenerate during sleep thus improving immune function and guaranteeing an overall healthier lifestyle. Aside from being an anti-ageing rest system, HOGO has been credited to improve athletes’ recovery time by acting as a potent anti-inflammatory while also reducing basal cortisol and improving the immune system. Cristiano Ronaldo and his wife Georgina Rodriguez have claimed to have felt the change this has had in their sleep since the beginning of using the system and they credit it as ‘the secret’ to effectively managing their busy lifestyles.

You focus on bioidentical hormone therapy and genomic counselling – how does this naturally cure ailments?
Genetic counselling lets you know your health’s weakest and most vital points. The best hormonal environment enables the prevention and, eventually, cure of ailments related to overeating, lack of exercise, poor stress management, detox capacity, sleep disturbances and microbiota dysbiosis.
The clinic offers a host of treatments including anti-smoking pro- grammes, nutrition therapies and more. Can you expand on these offerings?
SHA Wellness offers six programs including Optimal Weight, Advanced Detox, Intensive/Optimal Weight and Advanced Detox, Healthy Ageing, Rebalance and Leader’s Performance – cu- rated to address different health concerns, requirements and objectives. There are also four ‘focused’ divisions, addressing specific health issues including Gut Health, Sleep Recover, Stress Management and Anti-Tobacco. The anti-tobacco programme offers various treatments and therapies focused on addictions to help transition away from smoking in a healthy and controlled manner. With the goal to recover normal bodily functions without the challenging side effects of withdrawal and relapse, SHA’s team of professionals encourage healthier habits for guest lifestyles and to strengthen their commitment to permanently quitting tobacco. The programme begins with a general health checkup followed by individualized treatments including acupuncture, magneto therapy, aquatic therapy, relaxation and more. A personalised nutrition and health plan is then curated for every individual’s physical requirement and for a unique and fully holistic experience.
“This innovative invention also helps to reverse the signs of ageing and encourages the body’s natural ability to regenerate during sleep.”
The facility improves clients’ long-term sleep – talk us through this programme.
‘Sleep Recovery’ is one of the more focused divisions at SHA, combining Western diagnostic techniques and natural therapies to alleviate sleep problems and put the body in total rest mode. The recommended stay is seven or fourteen days and includes a general medical consultation with a specialist at the beginning and at the end of the course. In addition, guests will receive individual treatments and therapies best suited to them, including a polygraph for the diagnosis of sleep at night, neurocognitive assessment, stress management session, energy health assessment, infrared heat and electromagnetic balance session, mindfulness session, Tibetan healing bowls therapy, brain pho- photobiomodulation session, psychophysiological monitoring of sleep and more. The primary objective is to identify the integrative causes that generate sleep problems, via measurements using specialised technology of the natural rhythms of the human body. Once the origin of the pathology has been determined, specific treatments and therapies focused on the gradual restoration of the natural sleep cycle are then applied, in order to achieve restful sleep and recover adequate energy levels for a full and healthy life. Guests will also have full access to SHA’s world-class wellness facilities, receive a bespoke nutrition plan and enjoy delicious and healthy gastronomy from SHA’s talented culinary team.
Wellness concepts have grown in the Middle East over the years – how have you seen this evolve?
The wellness industry in the Middle East has demonstrated significant growth in recent years and this trend is set to continue. For many years, travellers within the region have regularly enjoyed massages and yoga retreats in traditional spa facilities, but when the pandemic hit, wellness took a new urgency and became a priority for many. This accelerated the demand for bespoke destinations that incorporated holistic and advanced wellness treatments with integra- tive solutions to promote long-term health for body, mind and soul. Over the years, we had many guests from the Middle East visit SHA Wellness in Spain, a strong reflection of the growing demand from this region for transformative wellness experiences. With this in mind, the UAE was the perfect location in which to expand our presence and deliver our unique approach to integrative health for new audiences.

SHA Emirates is set to open in 2025 – what can we expect at this one-of-a-kind getaway?
After a decade of transforming the lives of thousands of people from around the world at our current location in Spain, we dreamt of crossing the seas to new continents. We wanted more and more people to benefit from our philosophy of integrative health and well-being. For years we travelled to dozens of locations in search of the perfect nature, warm weather, and accessibility to replicate SHA. It was not easy, but we finally found everything we could imagine and more at the seaside destination of AlJurf, in the United Arab Emirates. The luxury development is surrounded by wildlife and nestled in a beautiful serene landscape. It’s the perfect place for people looking to escape city life and recuperate”, said Alejandro Bataller Pineda, Vice President of SHA Wellness Clinic. The opening of SHA Emirates is set to bring world-class treatments to the region for the very first time. SHA Wellness Clinic has become a benchmark for luxury wellness. Always ahead of every innovation in the field, the brand has become a global name synonymous with medical advances and pioneering programs, certified through the almost 100 international awards received during its 11 years of existence.
