With approval granted for the cutting-edge designs of a new passenger terminal, AMI is poised to accommodate over 260 million travelers annually, surpassing all existing records for airport capacity. Boasting five state-of-the-art terminals and more than 400 aircraft gates, the expansive facility will cover a sprawling 70 square kilometers in Dubai South.
Construction has already commenced on the Dhs128 million terminal, with completion of the initial phase expected within a decade. Upon its inauguration, the terminal will boast an impressive capacity of 150 million passengers annually, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s evolution.
Anticipating a seamless transition, all operations currently housed at Dubai International Airport (DXB), the world’s busiest international airport, will gradually migrate to AMI in the coming years, according to announcements from the Dubai Media Office.
Beyond its sheer scale, AMI is envisioned as a beacon of sustainability, designed to minimize environmental impact and align with the UAE’s commitment to eco-conscious development. HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, emphasized the airport’s pursuit of a LEED Gold certification, underscoring its dedication to environmentally responsible practices.
Expanding beyond aviation, the development of AMI signals a broader vision for Dubai South, set to become a thriving metropolis accommodating a million residents and hosting leading companies in logistics and air transport. Reflecting on the significance of this endeavor, HH Sheikh Mohammed emphasized its enduring legacy for future generations, ensuring sustained growth and prosperity for Dubai as a global powerhouse in aviation, commerce, and urban innovation.
