Sian Welby breaks down in tears over Roman Kemp’s last day before he’s replaced by Jordan North in big money radio deal

ROMAN Kemp left his co-star Sian Welby in tears as he spoke about his last day on Capital Radio.

His last breakfast show after 10 years at the station will air on Thursday and Radio 1 star Jordan North is taking over from April.

But Roman was treated to a little surprise from his colleagues earlier.

The Arsenal fan was driven to the Emirates Stadium in London to host his second-to-last show from there.

Roman, 31, said it was a “dream come true” and Sian, 37, began to sob.

He told listeners: “t’s my final show after being on Capital for 10 years, it’s my last one.

“If I’m totally honest, I want it to be as normal as possible.”

Roman suddenly said: “Sian are you crying?”

“No no no, yeah I am,” she confessed.

“I just suddenly realised tomorrow is your last show, I actually am crying. It’s just been such a mad – today has been such a fun day.”

Insiders told The Sun how Jordan had informed his bosses of his decision to quit Radio 1, with the Beeb understandably upset at him leaving.

A source said: “Jordan is moving to Capital FM to replace Roman and he could not be more excited.

Jordan North left shocked as he makes disgusting discovery when investigating vapes

“It is absolutely huge for him and although it’s hard to leave the BBC he is excited to get started on Capital.

“Jordan’s decision has been a hard pill to swallow for the BBC but there was nothing they could do to change his mind.”

Sian recently opened up on her own career achievments to The Sun.

She bagged a role presenting This Morning alongside Dermot O’Leary earlier this year.

She told us: “Dermot was very patient and calming, and I knew he wasn’t going to let me fall. If I made a mistake or said something wrong, he’d have my back.

“The whole team there is incredible. If they hadn’t made the environment so chilled, I would have been a nervous wreck!

“It feels like a fever dream now. Like, did that actually happen? And it’s kind of addictive, because you get such an adrenalin rush.

“I did Monday to Thursday, and on the Friday it was a bit of a comedown from being on such a high.

“But then, seeing comments saying I was a breath of fresh air was lovely.

“As the new kid on the block, I was bracing myself for some negativity, but wow, people really did give me a chance and didn’t just write me off. I was so touched by that.”

The Nottingham-born presenter star, who is expecting her first baby, has been plugging away for several years, attending auditions and taking on small presenting and producing gigs in between working at New Look.

She finally landed a break as the Channel 5 weather presenter in 2010, after she was spotted in an advert on TV.

She added: “It’s not always the job you think you want, but it maybe leads to the one you do. I never had weather in my brain. I was terrible at geography!

“To this day, I don’t know where anywhere is.

“They mock me on Capital Breakfast for not knowing any capital city, and yet there I was having to point to places on the UK map.

“I was thrown in at the deep end, but it was my route to London and meant I could afford my rent.”
