People around the country came together in solidarity — not physically but figuratively — singing the UAE national anthem on Friday.
Launched by the Maitha Bint Ahmed Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan Foundation in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Police patrols, residents across the nation came together over the weekend to participate in the ‘Together We Chant for UAE’ initiative.
People came together to show their appreciation for the medical staff on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19 singing the UAE’s national anthem, Ishy Bilady, translated into English means ‘Long Live My Country’.
Many shared videos on social media of the anthem being sung by people of all ages, played on the piano, of the police beaming the tune on the streets of Abu Dhabi and more.

This isn’t the first time residents and citizens have sung the national anthem in support of frontline healthcare workers. Just a few weeks ago, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan admitted he was moved to tears after seeing videos of UAE residents cheering and singing the national anthem, in support of those who are on the frontline of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In footage posted to the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi’s Instagram page, he revealed he has watched many clips of residents praising medical staff, authorities, volunteers and more.
“Many residents on social media are singing our national anthem and I want to confess to all viewers that when I heard you, by God, I shed a tear,” the Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces said.
As of April 19, there have been 6,781 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UAE — 1,286 have recovered and there has been 41 deaths.
