Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s message to Prince Charles amid coronavirus battle

HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has sent a message of support to Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, after he tested positive for coronavirus.

It was confirmed by Clarence House, the Prince of Wales’ royal residence, in a statement on Wednesday that the 71-year-old had been “displaying mild symptoms” of the disease “but otherwise remains in good health”.

Taking to Twitter, His Highness wished the Prince of Wales a “speedy recovery”.

“We wish Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, a return to full health & a speedy recovery,” Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said. “Our hearts & prayers are with him & all those infected in their fight against the Covid-19.”

He added, “The UAE stands side by side with the UK in these difficult times.”

While it was confirmed Prince Charles had tested positive for coronavirus, his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall tested negative for COVID-19.

Both Charles and Camilla are now self-isolating following medical advice.

As for the Queen, Buckingham Palace has said she “remains in good health”.

“The Queen last saw The Prince of Wales briefly after the investiture on the morning of 12th March and is following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare,” the palace’s statement regarding the Queen added.

In the UK there has been over 17,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus – around 15,968 are active. There has been 140 recoveries and over 1,000 fatalities.

Currently in the UAE there have been 468 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 201 of which are currently active. There have been 55 recoveries and two deaths.

Citizens and residents in the UAE have been urged to practice social distancing and not to leave home unless it’s absolutely necessary in order to prevent the virus from spreading.
