Kylie Jenner just made a major donation to Australia’s wildfire relief

Amid social media backlash

Since September of 2019, Australia has been engulfed in wild fires that have threatened people, wildlife and forests. It has been reported that 24 people have been killed, over 14.8 million acres of land have been burned, around 1,500 homes destroyed and an estimated 500 million animals have perished.

In light of these devastating events, celebrities and social-media personalities have shown their support for fire services and rescuers. They have also raised awareness regarding the tragedy, informing people of all the different ways that they could donate and contribute to Australia’s wildfire relief.

Missing from action was the world’s youngest billionaire and reality star, Kylie Jenner, who faced intensive backlash on social media for her response to the bushfire crisis. The makeup mogul first took to her Instagram stories to share a viral image from the Australian crisis, highlighting the tragic number of animals who have died so far.

This story was followed by another of her showing off her mink Louis Vuitton slippers, which were made of real fur. This caused an outrage of social media, with a tweet calling out Kylie reaching 1.3 million likes in just three days.

In light of all this backlash, People magazine confirmed that the Keeping up with the Kardashian star is now donating $1 million to help fire relief efforts in Australia. According to the American publication, her donation will be distributed among multiple different relief organisations working on the ground in Australia.
