Mike Tindall says he would turn down Strictly Come Dancing because he’s too big to win the show

Every year we’re on the edge of our seats to see which celebs will sign up to Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC dancing competition is one of our favourite parts of the autumn and winter seasons, providing glitz, glamour and a good dose of some of our favourite celebs falling on their faces.

And while there has been a wide range of celebs, from soap stars to sports people to journalists and TV presenters, one type of high-profile face we’ve never had on the show is someone from the inner royal family.

While we doubt we’d be seeing Kate or Meghan on there anytime soon, it would be entertaining to watch any close family members.

And while reports earlier this year suggested that the show had approached a member of the royal family, it was never confirmed.

But one royal has now spoken out about why he would choose against going on the show – and it isn’t because of his link to the royal family.

Mike Tindall, who is a former rugby player, has spoken out about why he would decline an invitation to take part in the BBC dancing competition.

The husband of Zara Tindall, the Queen’s granddaughter and cousin of Princes William and Harry, appeared on Good Morning Britain earlier today, talking to presenters Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway about his reasons.

‘I definitely don’t think the nation needs me to dance,’ said the 40-year-old. ‘It appears you need to be small like Austin and [Matt] Dawson to win. All the taller rugby guys – not so good.’

Presenter Kate responded that he seemed to have ‘really thought about this’, which led him to reveal his competitive sportsman side saying: ‘Well, it’s just anything to win, isn’t it, really?’.

And there’s one Strictly star who agrees that the royal shouldn’t take part.

Strictly professional dancer Oti Mabuse has previously expressed her thoughts on whether the show should have a royal contestant, saying that she’d be ‘too intimidated by a royal partner’.

‘I wouldn’t know how to approach them,’ she told HELLO! magazine, ‘I couldn’t be myself!’
