How Coleen Rooney could be sued after accusing Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories

Coleen Rooney could be sued after accusing Rebekah Vardy of leaking her personal information.

Earlier this week, the mum-of-four took to her Twitter account to accuse former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here star Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about her.

Coleen, who is married to former Engand football player Wayne Rooney, revealed that she set up a trap on her Instagram account to find out who out of her friends had been leaking stories about her and her family to The Sun newspaper.

After Rebekah denied the allegations, the mum-of-two announced that she is getting a forensic team to investigate who has access to her Instagram account.

And a lawyer has now revealed that if Rebekah is found to not be the leak, Coleen could face legal action.

Speaking on BBC Two’s Victoria Derbyshire show, lawyer Phil Sherrell said that Rebekah could end up being within her rights to sue Coleen.

‘The question here is what does the person reading that tweet and Instagram post think she is saying?’ he said.

‘Is she saying it is Rebekah? Or is she saying it is Rebekah’s account? When I read that, although the end bit talks about it being the account, there’s a couple of uses of the word “person” beforehand, I think there’s a good argument that is saying it is Rebekah, or at least very likely it is Rebekah.

‘At that point, Rebekah has a claim,’ he continued. ‘But where does that take her? That takes her to court where we will establish if it’s true or not.’

‘Everything on the internet is traceable to an individual,’ he added, ‘so we will be able to find out one way or another whether this was someone using Rebekah’s account without permission, or if it was her with the data behind it.’

Victoria then asked, ‘So you can pinpoint exactly how you can find out who has had access to your account?’

To which Phil responded, ‘Yes, Rebekah will be able to go to Instagram and ask “which time and date my Instagram was accessed,” they will say for example, “10am on this Monday and someone accessed your account using this broadband account, say BT.”’

‘So then we will go to BT and ask for the address that had that account, so we will get an address and get down to a person in a house.

‘And it’s true, with everything on the internet, if you look hard enough you can find out who it is.’
