Mystery behind Shane MacGowan’s missing prized 1916 rifle solved as star’s pal poses with gun before returning to family

A RARE rifle used in the 1916 Rising belonging to Shane MacGowan is set to be returned to his family. Our exclusive photo shows the late star’s close pal and former manager, Joey Cashman, posing with the historical relic, which was gifted to Shane on his 60th birthday by Glen Hansard.Shane MacGowan’s pal and former manager Joey Cashman poses with the rifleCredit: Paul Sharp – Commissioned by The Sun DublinShane was gifted the weapon by Glen HansardCredit: Getty Images – GettyShane MacGowan with his 1916 rifleMacGowan’s friend of many decades last night told how the Irish Rover rocker had asked him to look after the artifact in case having it around the house was a worry for his wife Victoria Mary Clarke. The Irish Sun revealed earlier this month how the “piece of history” could not be located, to the dismay of Shane’s loved-ones who launched a worldwide campaign to find it.The weapon used in the Easter Rebellion is a Lee-Enfield 303 and given its historical significance is believed to be quite valuable. After Shane’s sister Siobhan told us the family were desperate to be reunited with the heirloom, Joey confirmed he was in possession of the beloved gun and made plans to send it back. The rock manager explained that Shane decided not to keep the rifle at home anymore to avoid it making his wife feel uncomfortable about it being in the house.Joey said: “So he asked me would I look after it for him. And of course I said yeah, I’d look after it for him for as long as you want.“So now it’s going down to the family in Tipperary, down to Siobhan and of course Maurice, his father, Siobhan is the sister and Anto, her husband.“It was a present to Shane on his 60th and it meant a lot to him. Most read in Celebrity“He was so proud of it. He was a history fanatic, especially to do with anything regarding Irish history.”’Blubbering wreck’ Victoria Mary Clarke shares sweet video of late husband Shane MacGowan ahead of Valentine’s Day On his enduring friendship with MacGowan, Joey said: “I was with him from 1995 to 2015.“We lived together for nine years – two years in the Commons in Tipperary, about four years in Dublin and two years in Howth.”After Joey contacted Siobhan about the weapon last week, Victoria confirmed it had been located. She tweeted: “I just wanted to say Shane’s rifle has been found.’So grateful’“I am so grateful to everyone who has helped.“Shane had asked his friend Joey to look after a few years ago in case it made me nervous to have it in the house!”Shane — who passed away last November aged 65 after a brave battle with ill health — was moved to tears by the memento, which was gifted to him by Oscar winner Glen at a family bash in Tipperary.Siobhan recently told The Irish Sun how much the treasured gift meant to his friends and family.’It was so lovely’She said: “It was given to him on his 60th birthday in Tipperary, with just family and friends there, it was so lovely. We all got to see it.“Shane absolutely adored anything to do with history, so to see him so emotional after receiving that, it was a really special occasion.“We all saw him get it and how much it meant to him and then we were all posing up with it — this piece of history!“We are all trying to track it down because it would be such a shame if it were somehow lost.“It was something so special to Shane and to his family, and I suppose the message would be to please keep an eye out for this valuable piece of family treasure, because we want it back.”Rifle searchThe search began when life coach and author Victoria revealed the Rising rifle could not be found. She posted on social media: “Shane’s 1916 rifle has gone missing.“It was a birthday gift to Shane from a dear musician friend and it was used in the GPO, so it was historically significant.“It was a Lee-Enfield 303 and has H Munn etched on it.”READ MORE SUN STORIESThe Lee-Enfield is a bolt-action repeating rifle. It was the main firearm of the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century.Johnny Depp gives touching reading at Shane MacGowan’s funeral More

Kerry Katona admits it’s hard not to have ‘shame and guilt’ over drug addiction as she has nose op to repair damage

KERRY Katona has spoken about the ‘guilt and shame’ of her drug addiction. The former Atomic Kitten star said she had finally closed a chapter on the darkest days of her life. Kerry Katona revealed her bruising after having her nose reconstructedShe said how she was left with a hole in the centre of her noseKerry, 43, was told by surgeons last year that she would have to have surgery to fix her nose after it started collapsing from the years of drug taking. After an amazing 15 years of sobriety, she finally decided that she wanted to have the procedure. Sharing a photo of her bruised face with a large bandage over her nose, she said that she now ‘forgives herself’ from the mistakes she once made. “Even thou (sic) it’s been almost 15 years since those awful dark days and even thou that chapter of my life is well and truly closed it’s hard not to hang on to those negative unnecessary thoughts of shame, guilt, embarrassment, also desperation, loneliness, heartbreak,” she wrote in the caption.read more on kerry katona” But also strength, resilience, determination and forgiveness! Forgiving yourself is probably the most hardest of them all. “I really hope my mistakes can become lessons for others in their hour of desperation to give you hope and inspiration never to give up on yourself.”She told fans that it is “never too late to ask for help” and it’s “never too late to reach out and ask someone if they need help”.She started taking drugs when she was just 14 years old after her mum first introduced her to speed. Most read in ShowbizKerry Katona’s cosmetic surgery timelineHere we look at the star’s changing face – from fresh-faced pop singer to the latest £3,000 tweakment.

Kerry first went under the knife in 2004 for a boob job, and again in 2008 for another breast enhancement and liposuction.
In 2010 she also revealed she had tried to turn back time with some facial tweaks.
Kerry was bitten by the vampire facial bug in 2013, and feared she would die after a shocking reaction to the procedure, popularised by Kim Kardashian.
In 2019 Kerry sparked outrage by endorsing a ‘Katona Package’ at a London clinic offering “2ml face filler and one area fat dissolving” for £699.
When the mum-of-five approached her 40th, she celebrated with fillers and fat-dissolving injections in her chin to “enhance my natural beauty”.
Two years later Kerry joked she’d got a “brand new face” after a procedure called CoolSculpting, which freezes fat cells under the skin and destroys them. She had some fat removed from her chin and Botox injections.
In 2023, the TV star revealed a tighter jawline after treating herself to a “non-invasive facelift”.
In early 20224, Kerry had much more invasive eye lift and brow lift in January, at a cost of over £3,000.

This spiraled into a chaotic cocaine addiction that plagued her for years. She said how things got so bad that she “literally died” after a heavy binge at the height of her addiction.Kerry explained that she had a hole in the middle of her nose from the drug abuse, which she never planned on getting fixed. She said that she wanted to keep the hole as a reminder, but after struggling with breathing she decided it was time. Her fans flocked to the comment section to send her messages of support and love. “Speedy recovery beautiful,” one person wrote. “You will be bk (sic) to yourself soon sending big hugs,” a second chimed.”You’ve walked a turbulent road but lessons and blessings are always right alongside,” another added.”Sending love to you for a speedy recovery. Well done on your recovery. You really are amazing!” a fourth wrote.Kerry recently showed off her incredible weight lossCredit: Getty More
