Chris, who is dating Fifty Shades actress Dakota Johnson, 34, volunteers with the homelessness charity regularly and usually puts a shift in at the warehouse every Christmas.
But this year the charity asked him to volunteer in the shop instead because they already had enough people sorting donations behind the scenes.
Pictures showed him smiling behind the counter with fellow volunteers on Saturday afternoon.
He wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the words Love Is The Drug – the title of British band Roxy Music’s iconic 1975 single.

Crisis chief executive Matt Downie called the singer a “treasured, long-standing volunteer and supporter” and “one of the nicest people you could hope to meet”.
He told The Sun: “We’re immensely grateful to Chris for giving his valuable time today to volunteer at our Shop from Crisis Finsbury Park store, where he helped make our customers’ Christmas shopping extra special.
“All our volunteers, whether new to Crisis or longstanding ones like Chris, play a crucial role in our mission to end homelessness.
“Next week we’ll be mobilising a unique volunteering effort as we open our Christmas services to support over 7,000 people facing homelessness across Great Britain, at one of the toughest times of the year.”

Coldplay will perform on Saturday, according to a new report.
An insider told the Mail on Sunday: “It’s the dream line-up, a brilliant mix of different music and different atmospheres.
“Then, of course, you have Madonna on the final night, which will be epic.”
Surprisingly, the Holiday songstress has never been booked for Glastonbury before – unlike Coldplay who have headlined four times in the past.

The Chris Martin-fronted brand have entertained swarms of fans at Worthy Farm in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.
Just a few weeks ago, we revealed Madonna had been in advanced talks to headline the iconic fest.
And before that, we told how Coldplay were keen to star there too.
Emily Eavis — the daughter of Glastonbury founder Michael — faced criticism that this year’s festival was headlined by male acts Elton John, the Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses.

She said: “We did have a female headliner, and she unfortunately had to pull out . . . it changes all the time.
“But next year it’s looking like we’ve got two female headliners, so fingers crossed.”
Taylor Swift was thought to have pulled out over a change in plans.
According to its website, Glastonbury will take place from June 26 to 30, 2024. Tickets go on sale later this month.
