Scots singer drafted in to support Take That in Glasgow after he was spotted playing in hotel NEXT DOOR

A YOUNG musician has taken to the stage at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro as a last minute replacement to support Take That.

Olly Murs, 39, was supposed to open for the veteran pop group but he was unable to perform.

The singer-songwriter’s flight from London’s Heathrow Airport was cancelled.

But a stand-in for Murs was found just yards away from Scotland’s largest music venue.

Presenter Ross King, 62, had been watching musician Daniel Rooney play at the Radisson hotel across the road, as reported by the Daily Record.

After hearing that Murs couldn’t make it, King messaged his pal Gary Barlow, 53, who jokingly asked if he knew a singer who could fill in.

King told the band’s frontman about the young musician from Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, performing in the hotel bar.

When asked if he wished to support Take That, Daniel snapped up the surprise opportunity.

He delighted the huge Hydro crowd with a rendition of Stealers Wheel’s 1972 hit Stuck in the Middle With You.

Punters hailed Daniel’s last minute performance as he took to the stage for an impromptu set.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: “Huge congrats to Daniel Rooney of Cambuslang. Filling in on 30mins notice for Olly Murs who was stuck in London. What a fab into to the big stage.”

Another posted: “Daniel Rooney from Cambuslang smashed it in your absence! Loved his performance.”

Another commented: “He’s great isn’t he. Not a sign of any stage fright.”

Earlier we told how Murs performance was called off as the doors were set to open.

His British Airways flight was axed, leaving him with no other option but to pull out.

In a post on X, Murs apologised to his fans and added that he was “so annoyed”.
